Free Music Review: Dance Music Flashback!!!

Over on this side of the pond, Kano is best known for "I'm Ready" which was later sampled by rap artists (most famous being Tag Team's "Whoomp! (There It Is)") & is a sample in the old sckool format to this day. However there's more to this Italian-based group than just this song...
While this is not a definitive collection (there's no songs from the their 2nd LP "New York Cake" & where's their final single "This is the Night?"),it does show the evolution of Kano from a post-disco project to one of the founders of Italodisco, an European form of Hi-NRG.
On this collection we get all 6 songs from their self-title debut which includes "I'm Ready" & "It's a War". The other 4 songs also surprising good, or if not good very dancable with the Giorgio Moroder influenced "Cosmic Voyager" being my favorite. As a bonus, "Holly Dolly", the B side of the 12" single "I'm Ready" is also here. Both songs plus "It's a War" are sought out by DJs & disco collectors. Their Italodisco songs feature the singing of West Indies born Glen White who is heard on "I Need Love", "Queen of Witches", & their most famous song aboard "Another Life" (including a disappointing 1991 remix.)
Despite minor issues with the songs picked for this set over others, this is one CD that should be in every DJ & 80s dance music fan's collection.

I'm Ready is an excellent release from Kano and it's worth playing over and over again. Great for dance floors or driving fast with it playing loud in your car. This release is def. worth owning if you're into the 80's dance club sound. Free Music Review: Electronic Music At its Best

Some of these tracks are used in hip hop recordings today, but these are the original tunes. This is from the early 1980's, and it sounds just as fresh today.Free Music Review: Good collection could be better

Kano has always been one of those groups that I have found to be rather mysterious. Their sound was quite unique and their personal profiles are practically non-existent. I'm Ready is one of my all-time favourite songs and it is included on this collection. However, this collection could have done without a few of the tracks on there and included some songs from their New York Cake album. None of the songs from that album are on this cd.
Here's hoping that Unidisc will finally release that album on cd, possibly with the single versions of the hits included as bonus tracks.

This is one of the better greatest hits compilations that I have heard in sometime. Basically, all the songs featured are solid and more importantly far ahead of their time. Remember, Kano was an early to mid 80's dance music performers. I have New York Cake on vinyl, the tracks "Can't hold back", "She's a star", "Baby not tonight" and "Don't try to stop me" are strong. However, the recording is short. I wanted to here more, the greatest hits compilation provided that. This musical act put in a great deal of time and concentrated effort, you can expect a tribute web site from me to them for all they have accomplished. A musical act [s] might want to release a tribute recording as the vast majority of these tarcks could blend in rather well with today's music. Regardless of timeframe, there ia always a place for disco dance music. Kano is a good, solid musical act, I would really enjoy hearing Stardust remake Kano's music, respectfully, Doug.
