Free Music Notes for Late RegistrationFree Music Review: Good album but something is missing Hit: 4 StarsKanye's first album going triple platinum might have went to his head. Even though he was the rookie of the year with College Dropout, this album is pale in comparison. The production for the album is just as tight as it was on his first album but some of the guest appearances were pretty tame. Standout tracks: HEARD EM SAY, TOUCH THE SKY, DRIVE SLOW, CRACK MUSIC(he could have let Game spit a verse on here), ROSES, BRING ME DOWN(dope track but the corny verse that goes /hater n****s marry hater b***hes and have hater kids/ might be a cause of concern), ADDICTION, DIAMONDS FROM SIERRA LEONE REMIX(The remix is superior to the original, not the other way around but I understand your confusion when you let a Cracked Magazine clone like XXL tell you what's what) and HEY MAMA(nice tribute to his mother). Filler: Gold Digger(the worst track Kanye ever made!), We major(nice beat but YAWN!), Gone, Celebration(its a funeral b***hes), Diamons From Sierra Leone and the bonus track Late sucks! Also the Broke Phi Broke skit is just plain cheesy. Bottom Line: Late Registration is a highlight album of 2005 but is pale in comparison to College Dropout. Its not a garbage album by a longshot but it lacks the oomph that the first album had.
Free Music Review: Great Hit: 4 StarsThis is yet another great album by Kanye. Genius is the best word to describe Kanye West. I have to say that Late Registration is not as good as College Dropout, but it is definately a good buy. I enjoyed this album.
Free Music Review: Nothing real special about the lyrics, but the beats... Hit: 4 StarsKanye West is an impressive all-around artist, I'll say that. He's got the right balance of streetwise, backpack and pop-sap to win over enough of all those individual scenes and make an industry-wide impact.
Is he a little preachy? Sure, sometimes. Can he get a little to emotionally sappy for me? Yup. But one thing you can't dispute is the serious musicality with which this album was constructed.
From the Curtis-Mayfield-sampled 'Touch the Sky' to classy, stuttering clap of 'We Major,' each song has its own meticulously-crafted beat, with non-traditional hip-hop instrumentation all over the place. My personal favorite is 'My Way Home,' with its Gil-Scott Heron (I believe) sample and simple soul loop, with a nice guest verse from Common.
West is so savvy he even sends a nod to the Dirty South with a syruped-out coda to 'Drive Slow.'
Is it the Second Coming of Christ? No. But it's a damned good hip-hop album.
Free Music Review: Solid Sophomore Hit: 4 StarsOk, not 13.
Anyway, I bought this album the day it came out, after having liked College Dropout (it's practically a classic album) and this album does not dissapoint, however it was not as good as his first. Very good though...excellent replay value too. He further proves how much G-Unit sucks.
Free Music Review: good effort kanye Hit: 4 StarsI haven't been into hip hop since the 90's at all but I somehow ended up getting this CD and enjoy the beats and the lyrics. He combines the old school and new school really well. He features rappers like the game, common, nas, jay z, pop singers like brandy & adam levine, and samples from old school artists like ray charles and otis redding.
