Without Kate Bush to pave the way, there would be a highway littered with female artists who never made it. You can have your Tori Amos, your Sarah McLachlan, your Fiona Apple. None of them come close to matching the talent this extraordinary woman has. Although her box set should be owned by everyone, this greatest hits compilation is the tip of a very big ice berg. All the great songs are here: Wuthering Heights, Cloudbusting, Army Dreamers, Breathing and the unforgettable Running Up That Hill. Kate Bush truly transcends time and her music (even the early stuff from 1978)stands up next to anything being put out by the Lillith Fair sob sisters. It's been six years since Kate last put out an album (1993's brilliant The Red Shoes)and there is a reason. Unlike some of today's cookie cutter artists, Kate takes her time. She writes all the songs, produces, directs the videos, etc. When she puts out an album, it's an event. Not just another cd to shove in the racks. She is worth the wait. If you haven't heard her by now, you're just living under a rock.
