This is a package assembled by the Toronto-based Avalon new age label, teaming up Oliver Schroer - a Canadian folk/alternative violinist - with honey-voiced Toronto celtic singer Kate Crossan. The results are simply inspired. Crossan, who first gained notice with a band called Kitty's Kitchen, could sing the phone book and make it sound like a lilting breeze wafting over the Cliffs of Moher, and she brings out all the beauty in these 11 songs. Schroer has several solo discs out, but managed to curb his ambition enough to frame Crossan in delicate, wispy arrangments using acoustic guitar, piano, flute, uilleann pipes and violin. Where he does try something out of the ordinary, it works very well. Just listen to the extended version of Danny Boy. Here's the songlist:
