My writing cannot do justice to this work of art... sparse, translucent, bold and beautiful -- it's all there. A completely stunning CD with wonderful voices, melodies, and arrangements. Ms. Rusby has given us a very special gift.
Free Music Review: Wonderful album Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this album for one track - Maid of Llanwellen - but I have found all the songs to be enchanting. Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Ten is nearly a ten! Hit: 4 Stars
Kate Rusby's Ten is an excellent album that includes many ballads out of the English/Celtic tradition. Kate's authenticity shows through in her research of ancient tunes and lyrics, yet she has updated both by including her interpretations. Many songs revolve around love, a frequent theme in traditional music. Occasionally, her thick accent obscures lyrics, yet her voice remains expressive and her phrasing very interesting. One song- the Cow Song, fails to meet the standard of the rest of this collection. Maybe it was meant as a "novelty" song. Sir Eglamore (live version) is a standout for the energy and the ability to showcase her top flight band. "I Wish" is a heart wrenching ballad regreting the decisions and experiences made in life, and wishing she was a maid again.
Kate certainly can join the other excellent ballad singers such as Eva Cassidy, Karine Polwart and Mary Black in continuing this tradition. This album allows you to have some of the best from Kate's many CD's.
