Free Music Notes for Little LightsFree Music Review: Gentle and sweet Hit: 5 Stars
I heard one of the songs from this CD at Nickle Creek's website radio station, and was immediately enthralled by the quality of Ms Rusby's voice. It is a very sweet, beautiful voice for folk music, and very well recorded. The songs in general are older traditional songs from the Isles, arranged by her. I suggest listening to one of the samples, and you will be completely taken in by her gorgeous voice and gentle accent (so unusual to the ears of us across the Atlantic), as well as the excellent acoustic accompaniment.

... since Little Lights was my first encounter with Rusby, I can't fault the album for not covering new ground. I loved it so much I went out and got Sleepless and Hourglass. It's really nice to hear somebody singing folk music without wearing somebody else's accent (like the American singers who try to sound British or Irish and just end up sounding silly). It's quiet, uncomplicated, beautiful music. Also fun to sing with, and good for many, many listenings.
Free Music Review: More Rusby goodness. Hit: 5 Stars
Along with her first two albums Hourglass and Sleepless, this album is essential for any folk music fan. Kate Rusby's voice is stunning, and the arrangements are simple and beautiful. Sleepless is perhaps the best of the three, but Little Lights is great all around, and has its share of gems. My favorite songs: I Courted a Sailor and My Young Man, which features a lovely horn arrangement.
Free Music Review: Rusby's Little Lights Hit: 5 Stars
My wife and I first heard a song off this CD on NPR, I think it was the back porch show. Immediately, my wife fell in love, and I admit I too was a bit intrigued by Rusby's folky, almost Irish sound. So, I purchased the CD as a christmas present for my wife and neither of us were dissapointed; the rest of the songs were just as enjoyable as the few we heard on NPR.
Free Music Review: Simply beautiful... Hit: 5 Stars
Kate Rusby is, without a doubt, the finest vocalist walking the planet. Not one bad note on this album. She is totally underrated and deserves world-wide fame. But for now, she can be our little secret. Listen to this album at your own risk. She will break your heart with her angelic voice. Amazing. Period.
