A beautiful voice and a talent for making childhood songs sound new and fresh yet keeping in touch with the deep roots which provide the solid foundation for these pieces. The first song - The Goodman - brings a smile to your face and after you catch on to the lyrics, you'll always sing along!
I have many favorite pieces but the CD's title song "Underneath the Stars" has a wonderful swaying accompaniment that always entices my finger to press the "repeat" button.

Rarely can one find a CD where they like ALL of the songs. I'm pretty new to the folk music world, but Kate's music is a delightful blend of upbeat melodies and whimsical storytelling. I have bought several of her CDs and now consider her my favorite musician. I plan on traveling to England this year to see one of her shows. Kate Rusby is in fine form with her latest CD. Her accoustic arrangements of traditional and traditional-sounding folk songs are wonderful. Her voice is sweet and pure. Unlike some of her other recordings, there are no weak tracks on this CD. You'll find yourself singing along to "The Goodman" (which is hillariously funny) and "The Blind Harper", and crying over "Cruel" and "Sweet William's Ghost." I'm a singer myself, and therefore very picky about voices. Kate's sultry voice easily transitions from lilting, playful sea shanties to haunting, soulful ballads. Her pitch and timing are flawless, and her sense of style is unique and winning. The title track is a standout (and her own composition). Kate and Genie are my two favorite singers.
Genie and Kate are way better than that junk they play on the radio.
Both Genie and Kate seem to pick great songs every time.
I picked up all of Kate's CD's and also the Genie 4 CD set.
I couldn't be happier.
