Free Music Review: Catch The McPhever!
Hit: 5 Stars

this album is really good. it has a lot of good songs on it. katharine has an amazing voice. much better than taylor hicks. not only can she sing but i also think that she is the prettiest idol contestant next to carrie underwood and haley scarnato.

1. Love Story- Love this song! it is my favorite on the entire album. i saw the video on TRL and it was really cute and sassy. 5/5

2. Over It- my other favorite. this song is the reason i bought this album. her vocals are great and the song is catchy. 5/5

3. Open Toes- this song has a hip-hop beat. 4/5

4. Home- not to be confused with her fellow contestant, chris daughtry, but this song is much different from his version. it has the same flavor, but i like his version better. 4/5

5. Not Ur Girl- another favorite. 5/5

6. Each Other- 3/5

7. Dangerous- this song is pretty cool. i like it. 5/5

8. Ordinary World- 3/5

9. Do What You Do- this song is a little hip-hopish. 4/5

10. Better Off Alone- 3/5

11. Neglected- 3/5

12. Everywhere I Go- 4/5

here is my ranking for each american idol runner-up:

1. Blake Lewis- blake is my favorite idol contestant of all time. he is just plain awesome. i loved his beatboxing skills and his vocals, but i think jordin sparks deserved to win. she was my second favorite contestant this season.

2. Katharine Mcphee- i still have mcphever and i can't get over it.

3. Bo Bice- i'm not that familiar with him, but i like his song "The Real Thing."

4. Diana Degarmo- I'm not that familiar with her either but i saw her sing "A Broken Wing" on youtube. she sounded really good. i couldn't believe how long she held that last note!

5. Justin Guarini- i don't really like him that much. he's an okay singer, but he isn't as good as kelly.

6. Clay Aiken- Who's that?

Whether or not you are an idol fan, you should give this album a chance. i did and i was not disappointed. i'm glad i have it now. i can't stop listeneng to it. it is great for cleaning house or driving in your car.

Free Music Review: Not what expected.... Kat holds her own!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I must concur with what most people have said on here... this is not the Katharine McPhee we saw on idol... SHE IS BETTER. Need I remind you that when Katharine sang Over the Rainbow on idol it was Simon's choice for her... had she wanted to sing it she could have on Movie Week. To expect a 20something singer to put out the same cd's as Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow filled with covers is ridiculous. THAT would kill a new artist's career. While i do agree the cd has it's better tracks all of the songs do stand on their own 2 feet.

1. love story... retro feel and imo should have been the first single. great song

2. over it... good song, this is what people are listening too right now catchy and it grows on you FAST

3. open toes... rememnicent of something justin timberlake would have released if he were a girl... not my fave track but not bad

4. home... i love this song... this is more of the Kat we saw on idol with her own personality

5. not ur girl... this is a nice track... not the music i usually listen too but i like this song

6. each other... i love this song... again more of a mellow pace more Kat like... good song

7. dangerous... hell of a beat and a great song

8. ordinary world... this is a fantastic song!!!! this will be a number 1 if released imo!!!

9. do what you do... this is a fun song... a complete departure from what i like... this is not my "type of mucic" but i suprisingly find my self dancing when i hear it... pussycat dolls to the next level of singing talent.

10. better off alone... great song i see the r&b influences in it but i love it!!!

11. neglected... stands on it's own two feet... good song not my fave on the cd shows a bit more of Kat's range

12. everywhere i go... this is another fave... slower pace balad like

i am so happy with this cd... i think Kat has a brilliant future ahead of her. she very talented and should have won last season... but this is a very promising first cd. i look forward with what is next to come...

Free Music Review: Katharine McPhee delivers
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not a fan of Idol. Like most people in the US, I saw Kelly Clarkson garner the title as the first (and to date the best) show winner but that's because, like, everyone watched it then. Nowadays the show has become too formatic; despite the fact it's churned out some talented performers throughout the years, Idol just is bland now. So I never watched Season Five when a beautiful brunette named Katharine McPhee and a prematurely graying Taylor Hicks battle it out. The two performances I saw given by the runner-up and eventual winner didn't do much for me, so I brushed them off as two reality TV show talents and nothing more. Then, upon the release of McPhee's debut album, I happened to be browsing the iTunes Music Store and--by chance--streamed "Over It," the lead single from her record...and I fell in love. Not only was the track one of the best pop songs I'd heard in a long time, Katharine's creamy vocals gave it a wonderful element; and so I decided to purchase the album hoping it'd be as great as its lead single sounded. And it was! "Love Story" opens the disc, and although it's not nearly as commercially friendly as its predecessor hit, the blaring horn section, catchy R&B-infused groove and confident singing combine to make one amazing song after subsequent listens. Then comes "Over It," and in my opinion it's the standout song here: simply put, amazing through and through. "Open Toes" is in the same vein as "Do What You Do," a Hip Hop-inspired tune with plenty of hit potential, but not enough originality to have any staying power on the charts. McPhee soars with ballads like the smoky R&B "Home" and "Each Other," but she sounds the best when given power pop like "Ordinary World," another highlight here. The album closes with the catchy potential single "Everywhere I Go," a brilliant piece of pop-R&B which is almost just as catchy as "Over It." It's not perfect as evident from bland songs like "Dangerous," but nonetheless, although not perfect, its consistency and overall brilliant choice of set list material (including McPhee's smooth vocal delivery, sometimes reminiscent of Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey) make this a 5 star listen.

Free Music Review: The Real Winner, Don't You Just Love Her?
Hit: 5 Stars

I never doubted Katharine can pull an awesome album. And I am so happy how this one turned out. For those who wanted an "Over The Rainbow" type of album, don't worry she has really good things in store for you. Below are the slow songs for you.

- Everywhere I Go > My favorite and I think the best one in the album. It's written by Babyface so what can you expect? This track is pure greatness and genuis. Hopefully this will be the second single. They can't waste something like this and not make it a single.
- Better Off Alone > I think this is the second best slow song in the album. Like "Everywhere I Go" this showcase Katharine's powerful vocals. I love its melody, the song just pulls you in.
- Home > Sounds like one of Christina Aguilera's ballads. She is not trying to be like her, its just that sometimes they sound alike. This a really nice song. This is tied with "Better Off Alone" as the second best. It's hard not to sing along with this track.
- Neglected > It is just a nice sad song. I like the beat and melody. Powerful vocals from Katharine.
- Ordinary World > It can be considered one of the power ballads of the album. Showcases the Katharine we all fell in love with.
- Each Other > Katharine sings ala-Mariah. One of my favorites. This has a really nice beat. Nice vocals from our Kat and cool backup vocals.

Now for the unexpected tracks.

- Love Story > This reminds me of "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree". A really fun song. Nice tempo and beat. I like the simple lyrics.. the love story.
- Over It > This is a nice choice for a first single. Reminds me of a Jojo track but Katharine puts something here that fans will recognize her.
- Open Toes > This is a really nice fun dance song. Makes me want to stand up and dance. I love this track!
- Do What You Do > I love this song! Nice dance song.
- Not Ur Girl > Nice beat though. Fun girly song, for the girls!

I can do without..
- Dangerous > Katharine's "Toxic". Nice beat and all. Surprised she was able to pull off something like this.

Free Music Review: surprisingly beautiful.
Hit: 5 Stars

i have never been a fan of any novelty song we hear in the radio nowadays. pop music/rhythm& blues genre type of songs, i find myself annoyed. too much crap on the radio today making me willfully shun radio songs from my ears. I am more of a norah jones fan. Yes, those boring songs. Or the likes of John Mayer's acoustic songs. Also, jazzy songs make my ear tingle with delight. Katharine's choice of songs on the show american idol made me an instant fan. Simon said she was current, but to me, she sort of had this classical and pure vibe that made me drawn to her. Her very first performance Since I Fell For You to her approach on Ella Fitzgerald's I Ain't Got nothing but the blues made me love her even more. And who could forget Over The rainbow? her rendition was almost pitch perfect. Her tone, breathing, control is flawless.

As you can see, my perception of how katharine will be making her album was completely wrong. I was preparing myself to somehow be not inlove with the album, given my musical preferences or biases. But then, i was wrong. Her album has proven to entertain one's ears beyond a doubt. I have never thought I'd see the day where i will be enjoying a song about Shoes and dance to the beat especially when the song hit the part "put 'em on put 'em on let's go." From strong ballads such as Home and ORdinary world, it would be insane to say that she lacks power and emotion. What stood out to me is how rich, full and simply beautiful her lower register is. This was mostly displayed on her Better Off Alone song.

To say that this album is a disappointment confuses me. More so, to say that the all the songs sound the same is complete and utter stupidity. How can Open Toes sound similar with Better Off Alone, let alone, Home? I am a fan of songs that are less synthesized, but after hearing this album, it made my ears want to listen to more and more of katharine mcphee.

To all who have given this a bad review, open your ears and you might be surprised. Set aside your biases for christ's sake. Appreciate the music.
