Free Music Notes for Katharine McPheeFree Music Review: This is a great Debut CD! And I love her new style! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been anxiously awaiting this CD for months and I will tell you it is even better than I had hoped for. There are so many varied tracks here that show that Katharine McPhee is truly the most diversly talented performer in AI history. Whether it is her uptempo R&B dance material, her pop vocals or her incredible emotion in her ballad singing Kat has in such a short time created a wonderful debut that is a tribute to the many facets of her ability and personality.
I will tell you I am an older fan but absolutely love her R&B pop songs. Not Ur Girl which was featured as the Top 12 Girls song on AI during the Top 24 announcement show is an infectious dance hit with a great mid-tempo groove that even an old goat like me loves to dance to. Do what you do, and Open Toes are destined for great club remixes that will have people sweating up a storm on the dance floor.
Home, Neglected and Ordinary World really show that Katharine is one of the great ballad singers of today. You can truly feel what it's like to be "Home" with someone that makes you feel safe, warm and and protected when you listen to her on that song.
IMO Everywhere I Go is the true hidden gem of the CD. Babyface has created for Katharine a classic pop song that she grabs hold of and truly makes her own. It is an incredible song to end the CD on because it makes you want to immediately hit repeat on your player.
If I had any criticism of the CD at all is I would have liked Dangerous which is a great song left off because we had it on the WalMart CD already and Each Other which is a good song but probably the weakest on the CD left off as well and both replaced with the Ryan Leslie tracks that Kat wanted included. But this is minor and I have a feeling that because of the success that Kat is destined for we will get to hear those tracks at some point.
All in all this is a great CD to add to your collection. It is diverse, well produced, her vocals are stunning and although not perfect it is probably the best debut CD by an AI artist yet!
Free Music Review: McPhee - A Force To Be Reckoned With Hit: 5 Stars
After what seems like some pretty intense anticipation for Katharine McPhee's debut album, I can unequivocally state that it was well worth the wait. I have been a Katharine McPhee fan ever since I saw her first audition for American Idol last year, and when I heard that we might hear a different Kat on her new record than what we heard on AI, needless to say I was a bit concerned. After listening to her CD many times (I was fortunate enough to hear the tracks a few days before the CD was released), my concerns were entirely unfounded. Boy does Kat deliver in this her first album.
From powerful ballads like "Ordinary World, " "Home" and "Better Off Alone," to some great dance tunes like "Do What You Do," "Dangerous" and "Open Toes," Katharine and her producers have created one of the most diverse records I have heard in quite some time. One reviewer said the myriad mix of songs reminds one of a movie soundtrack. That analogy is right on and supports the beauty of this debut effort, and that is its variety of musical styles. Other than the ballads and dance tunes, there are also some gorgeous R&Bish songs that will leave you wanting for more after you listen to them numerous times, and the more pop tunes like "Over It" and "Love Story" round out the record quite nicely.
McPhee's voice is powerful and she clearly demonstrates the wonderful range she has throughout the entire album. And she delivers the tunes with the emotion that was often lacking in her AI performances. She has clearly come a long way in understanding how to feel the music that she is singing.
Katharine still has plenty of room to grow, that is a given, and she is still discovering who she is musically, but this is a strong debut offering and if the amount she has grown as an artist in just the past eight months is any indication of where she headed, then as David Foster said, "she is a force to be reckoned with " - indeed. Well done Kat McPhee, well done!
Free Music Review: Katharine's Debut album is a hit! Hit: 5 Stars
An engaging journey from start to finish, Katharine Mcphee's debut album serves as the catalyst for her future. Her debut album in stores January 30th 2007--a much anticipated album, for one reason it was originally due out late 2006, almost 2 months later and let me say, it was worth the wait. Katharine's (also known too many fans as Kat) CD is a journey into the depths of her soul and back. The songs on the album are poignant and reflective--depicting heartache, love and awakenings.
Kat has proven that she can sing it all--"Each other" is a Mariah inspired love ballad while "Dangerous" is a power dance hit. She has range, beauty and most of all a real quality that many fans relate to. One of her most promising songs on this album is "Ordinary World" where she bears her heart and soul to a past love-- the subtle background of a piano and her soulful voice make this song special. She is a down to earth diva with am amazing talent for song and acting. I had a feeling that this debut album and the year 2007 is Kat's time to shine and emerge as the "it" girl. If I really had to choose just a few songs to recommend for the non-Kat fans I would have to choose; "Ordinary World" and "Each Other". For those of you, who don't know who Katharine Mcphee is, get ready because she is hitting the airwaves and passing on her infectious hit songs... suddenly I think I have a severe case of "Mc-pheever"!
As far as all the negative comments out there, this is what I have to say to them-- open your minds and realize that Katharine is exploring her right to sing what she wants as well as to expand her singing, just because she didn't continue to record songs like, somewhere over the rainbow, doesn't mean that she is a sell-out. How do you know she is a sell-out when you don't even really know who Katharine is? She has a record out...what have you accomplished lately?
Free Music Review: Pretty Impressed Hit: 5 Stars
If you voted for Katharine, you should not be disappointed in the slightest. Her voice absolutely shines on the ballads and the music in all of the rest is just as lovely.
1. Love Story - One of my personal favorites. It's kind of retro sounding, and doesn't fall flat on its face in the slightest. 5/5
2. Over It - How JoJo is it? Not a bad song, but not impressive. 3.5/5
3. Open Toes - Simply one of the most fun songs I've heard in my lifetime. 5/5
4. Home - Kind of Christina-esque...and it works for her. 4.5/5
5. Not Ur Girl - One of the more bland songs, I think. It's kind of funky, but doesn't have the catchiness I wish it did. 3.5/5
6. Each Other - Very R&B...not what I would have expected from her. Good, though. 3/5
7. Dangerous - A lot like a modernized version of the Supremes. Love it. 4/5
8. Ordinary World - One of the best ballads I've heard in awhile...and she absolutely shines. 5/5
9. Do What You Do - This is sick! I mean that in a positive way. A good pop/dance song that doesn't try to be anything it's not. 4/5
10. Better Off Alone - Very good lyrically...but I don't relate to it especially. But impressive from someone from American Idol. 3.5/5
11. Neglected - A lot of people really like this one....but I'm not really one of them. Not to say it's a bad song, however. 3/5
12. Everywhere I Go - Produced by Babyface, I didn't know what to expect....what it comes out as is a "We Belong Together" improved tenfold. I love it! 5/5
Overall, this CD is very slick and ingenious, especially when you consider the whole AI aspect. I voted for her, I admit, but I didn't know if I would be getting a good CD or not. I'll just say that I should not have worried.
Free Music Review: I WOULD GIVE IT TEN STARS IF I COULD!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER!!
I love her first single, "Over It", and I have to say, I love each and every song on this album and that is unusual for me, even if it is someone I am a die-hard fan of. Every song is amazing!
Like so many, I've loved her since I saw her first audition. I so want her to succeed. But even though I do, I've been very skeptical of her first release because hey, you never know. She truly has a lot of potential and people will become hooked on this album! I think as far as new Pop/R&B stars go, she really has it for a newcomer. There's just something about her that people love. I hope she has staying power and I truly believe she does. I tried so hard to download the album at midnight on ITUNES and it took a while but I finally found it. I've never, ever downloaded an entire album but I believe in Katharine and so I'll spend the $ on her no matter what it takes. She moved me every week on American Idol and I think she'll move me every week on the Pop/R&B charts. She's wonderful and beautiful and friggin' hot and although I think she'll have to win the hearts of America way beyond American Idol, she can do it, I KNOW SHE CAN!! This is the first time I've ever reviewed an album and probably the last because no one matters to me as much as KATHARINE MCPHEE. That's how much I love the biatch!!. I will be so upset if she becomes another American Idol has-been, but I'm certain she won't. She and Kelly Clarkson are my two favorite pop starts and American Idol stars!! I can't wait for her album to go five-stars and multi-platinum. CHRIS DAUGHTRY ROCKS TOO!!
