Free Music Notes for Katharine McPheeFree Music Review: Mariah- you have some competition!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
First off, let me start by saying that if you are looking for an album of katharine standards, this is not the album for you. I love this cd from start to finish- it's fun and clever. There are a few beautiful ballads on the cd, but I also love the funky uptempo songs. Unlike some other unfair reviews, she sings with a lot of passion and emotion. I have not pressed the skip button like I have with a lot of pop albums and I must admit, I have pressed the skip button at least 4 times on kelly C.'s "breakaway" album. Katharine's cd is very impressive and not so much like a debut. I believe she has broken away from idol, she's young and she should sing the music that she loves!!! If you remember, Kelly Clarkson's debut was horrible, and she is very successful now- I believe that this is Katharine's direction and she will be very successful as well. Think of this cd as more like early Mariah! You will not be disappointed if you enjoy pop/r&b, you will be if you are expecting Celine!
Free Music Review: A Slice of Heaven! Hit: 5 Stars
Katharine McPhee's debut album is definitely one of the best CDs I have bought in a long time. It has something for everyone..amazing ballads...something to groove to..and one stellar voice.
McPhee has something truly beautiful, sensual and enticing in her vocals and knows how to connect with the songs. And the production on this album is top notch!
Every song offers something that truly makes you an instant fan of McPhee's. She is most certainly a force to be reckoned with. The ballads will give you the chills ("Home" and "Better Off Alone"), the up-tempos will get you groovin' ("Not Ur Girl" has a ska-pop beat, while "Open Toes" has a fabulous, unexpected ending) and possibly her finest moment comes on "Neglected." Her vocals are haunting and beautiful.
Whether you have followed her since her Idol days or just came across her from her undeniable single "Over It," you must give McPhee's album a chance. Every minute is a slice of heaven.
Free Music Review: Never Saw It Coming..... Hit: 5 Stars
Is what I thought that this cd would be titled, but oh well.. moving on....
The music is what counts here and for the runner up for American Idol's season 5 this is an excellent debut. The cd had me dancing (Love Story, Open Toes, Do What You Do), Had me thinking about my ex (Over it, Everywhere I Go, Dangerous), Remembering things of my past (Neglected, Ordinary World, Each Other).
Like in the previous reviews I've read, people under 21 will love this album... me as an avid music listener and adult, I look for music that I can relate to...no matter who the music is meant for, because truthfully, music has no age limit and if it moves you, then it moves you.
I didn't even think Katherine had it in her to divert in a direction that no one saw coming. Even though the shock of it is over at this point, I glad that she proved that you should never judge a book by it's cover.
Execellent album!
Free Music Review: What a great voice @}->--- Hit: 5 Stars
From the first funky song Love Story right through until the end, this is a great album. I think she's taken her time with it to make it really good and I think she's achieved that.
Dangerous is a catchy upbeat song which is my favourite I think. I also love the slower ballad Neglected and the mellow ballad Better Off Alone. Her voice is amazing, and it shines through on both ballads and faster songs too. She also really fits the American Idol image with stunning looks. The photos are great and it's a vast improvement over her girl next door look on the show. Katharine really is talented and it's no wonder she got so far on Idol. I think we can expect to hear a lot more from her in the future, because she is going to have a stellar career. While this cd is heavy in pop, I think she could be an amazing R&B singer too. I'm already waiting for another cd to drop, because her range is amazing and this girl is going places I bet.
Free Music Review: Finally - Some VARIETY Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first debut idol CD that actually has REAL variety in the style of music, and pretty much the first idol CD to actually respect - what radio refers to as - rhythm / crossover - if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway... Upon first listen or two of this CD, I would've given it a 4 stars rating, but I have since listened to this CD a handful of times, and I tell you, I LOVE IT! This one might end up being my favorite idol CD (knocking out Latoya London - poor Latoya).
My favorite tracks are (I'll limit, so's not to track nearly the whole CD)
Dangerous
Neglected
Open Toes (especially the middle - end - VERY UNEXPECTED)
Not Ur Girl
Over It (which grew on me).
I first heard Over It on AOL months back and was like, "what the heck is this?" I wasn't expecting that sound from Kat, but now I adore the single. I don't know how well this CD will do, but I think it's HOT!
