Free Music Notes for Kathleen Battle: A Christmas CelebrationFree Music Review: One of the most beautiful Christmas albums Hit: 5 Stars
I love Kathleen Battle's voice, and to get such a great collection of beautiful sacred music, it was like a dream come true. She sings many traditional carols like Holy Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, which is possibly my favorite here, you may think you have heard this song so many times, but Kathleen's voice really shines in it. Her English diction is so incredible, you can understand every word, which is not something many opera singers can achieve. Her singing is always so natural and lovely. Many other songs are oustanding on this album, I love the two version of Ave Maria and the Italian song Gesu Bambino. If you are looking for a really beautiful collection of Christmas music, this album is a great choice.
Free Music Review: don't believe I've ever heard anything lovelier Hit: 5 Stars
I had not heard this album until this year (2008) when my local NPR station played about half of it at one go while I was driving down the highway. Like all the previous reviewers (but one), I think it's absolutely lovely. My only complaint was that my eyes kept tearing up while I needed to see the road. I simply can't imagine a more beautiful voice, or more beautiful delivery of these songs. (A little later I heard the great Jessye Norman singing some of the same material, and my feeling was that her versions are very impressive to the ears -- but Kathleen's strike right to the heart.)
Free Music Review: Christmas Celebration Hit: 5 Stars
I have to say that this is my all time favorite Christmas record. I've listened to it annually for years (usually starting around October and I sometimes play it at other times as well.) The choral arrangements are wonderful and the orchestra & conducting are perfect. And I can't think of a single singer, past or present, to rival this crisp, clear, bright soprano. After hearing Ms.Battle, most other singers are a disappointment. No one delivers like this singer does. I doubt even angels sound better.
Free Music Review: Christmas in August Hit: 5 Stars
I love Christmas songs. I play them all year round, especially those sung by Kathleen Battle. She has the purest, angelic voice I have ever heard. It is a gift from Heaven. Credit must also be given to the superior choral and orchestral support provided by the New York Choral Artists, the renowned Harlem Boys Choir and the Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by the distinguished American conductor Leonard Slatkin. If I am allowed to keep only one Christmas album, this is the one.
Free Music Review: Sublime! Hit: 5 Stars
(Review by Minionette)
I rarely buy Christmas music, but I came across this CD at a garage sale & went for it because of the performer. For pennies, it was worth trying out. Oh my. This album dropped down from heaven. Battle's voice is soaring yet sweet, & great care is evident in her impeccable styling & phrasing of even the foreign language carols. You may feel, as I have, that one is finally hearing each song as it was meant to sound.
