Free Music Review: Kathy Griffin Rocks

Kathy Griffin translates well to CD in her first album. She manages to entertain for most of the tracks, but tracks like the first one could have been dropped. I hope she continues recording her concerts, since they tend to have mostly new material, she should be able to turn to CD's to reach a wider audience.Free Music Review: Typical Kathy

If you are a fan of female comics who have no shame in their game and equally offend everyone...you will love this. Perfect addition to add to an audio comic collection...the live DVD would have been better...but this was made to be an audio CD for the sole purpose of a Grammy nomination.Free Music Review: Worth "My consideration"!!!

I am a Kathy Griffin fan and if you are too, this cd is for you!! Her sharp wit and celebrity "dirt" is always enjoyable!! Her stories about her 87 year old Mom are classic!!Free Music Review: A little too self referential for me

I picked up the CD on a whim, having heard Kathy Griffin on Howard Stern and having seen one or two episodes of her Bravo show. I always found her to be quite hilarious, and thought I'd give the CD a whirl. My caveat is that I'm reviewing and reacting to the CD purely as a casual fan, so may be a bit more critical than some.
Kathy begins the her CD with shout-outs to the ladies and the gays in the club. "Straight guys," she warns, "I don't have much for you." Fair enough. I was warned. I didn't really take the the CD, but I don't think my being a straight bloke had much to do with it.
The CD does have some very funny moments, especially when she talks about her relationship with her mother and how out-of-touch Oprah is. For the most part, unfortunately, it seems as though to get a lot of the jokes on the CD one needs be VERY familiar with Kathy Griffin as a public personality and her TV show. As I mentioned, I've only seen one or two episodes of her Bravo show; so contrary to her assumptions, I don't "know her mom", I haven't "seen her dad", I can't "picture her assistants", I had no idea that she was dating people to get in the tabloids, and so on. I also don't watch The View or Oprah. As she consistently refers to things that happen in episodes, a lot of the humor was lost on me. Current pop cultural references are par for the course in contemporary comedy, but I don't think a person should have to do homework before popping in a comedy album in order to "get" 90% of the act.
I'm sure people who watch her show with devotion will get a much greater kick out of the album that I did; but as a simple stand-up comedy album listened to by a casual fan, it just didn't get too many laughs from me (the true gauge of a "good" comedy album, in my book). Sorry members of the "Kathy Cult", but that's my honest reaction.

Kathy Griffin has done better. This is just a recording of one of her stand up acts and, while funny, it's certainly not the best I've heard from the talented comedienne.
You're better off spending your money on one of her DVDs.
