Free Music Review: Keb Mo love the variety of pain, humor and addictive

Several years ago I went to a Bonnie Raitt concert (had great seats) and the pre-show performer was Keb Mo. I had never heard him or his music, but I had met Bonnie back in the early 70's and was so looking forward to seeing her and listening to her set. When Keb Mo came on stage...a stool and an acustic guitar, I had no idea what I was in for! Unbelievable guitarist and that voice...WOW! I didn't want it to end. I have since purchased most of his CDs and go see every performance I can! He is the best folk type blues musician in today's world. This CD is one of his best, everything from humor to spiritual to just good 'ole "sitting of the front porch" blues. Highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys music without all the "technology" that often gets in the way of the musician the songs. Gotta love just pure music of such a great artist sharing his craft.
Just Like You Poster
Keb' Mo's 1995 Grammy-winning eponymous debut firmly lodged the Los Angeles-born singer-guitarist in the contemporary blues pantheon. His sophomore effort, Just Like You, is slick in comparison to the virtuosic, bare-bones Keb' Mo', but it's nevertheless an irresistible and accomplished album. While songs such as "Perpetual Blues Machine" and "You Can Love Yourself" are classic Mo', with their canny lyrics and facile slide and acoustic guitar licks, the sapfest "Just Like You" (with guests Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne) and the clich?d "The Action" are hard to stomach. Toward the end of the disc, however, the gospel-laced "Hand It Over" and folksy "Momma, Where's My Daddy" restore the faith, displaying once again Mo's marvelous talent for wrenching the heartstrings with simply his voice and soulful steel-guitar manipulations. --Rebecca RobinsonBlues Music CDs
