Free Music Notes for The Rise and Fall of Keite YoungFree Music Review: Finally!Move over maxwell and D'angelo... Hit: 4 StarsI walked into HMV a 4 years ago being a huge fan of maxwell and d'angelo hoping that any of the sales assistant could shed some light on a new artist that can help make the endless waiting for a new album a little less painful. Bilal has managed to put me through a couple of months...but now 4 years later as the waiting turned to grieve then onto mourning for our beloved Maxwell and D'angelo who have spent more time making promises then actually recording anything, I have finally found something decent, creative and original...
Free Music Review: Good and fresh Hit: 5 StarsKeite Young is new to me and was recommended to me by my daughter and I must say that I have really enjoyed this cd. Not your ordinary singer around today. This man is real a blower. If you are interested in fresh talent, then this is the one.
Free Music Review: Order has importance Hit: 3 StarsI have been listening to this CD for about a week now. I have to say that it just doesn't do it for me. I definitely do not like the arrangement of the songs on the album. After getting some phenomenal albums in the last 6 months (Rahsaan Patterson Wine and Spirits, Raheem Devaughn) I just was disappointed. This album had been so hyped up in some of my circles. Bottom line, it's just okay.
Free Music Review: Under the radar talent!! Hit: 5 StarsThis guy is FABULOUS! It's a shame he doesn't have radio play. This is real music. If you like Prince, Al Green, Maxwell, DeAngelo, you will find all of that and more on this CD.
Free Music Review: Eclectic, with mixed results Hit: 2 StarsI first came across Mr. Keite Young on the Everyday People Project where he has two joints, both of which (If We were Alone featuring N'Dambi, and Time) also appear on this CD. I have read the other reviews, and the general consensus is that the eclectic nature of this CD is one of it's major plus points. Whilst I would agree that I do admire an artist that isn't afraid to embrace different musical flavors, that in itself isn't enough to endeavor this CD to me. Whilst I don't mind Rock, music per se, the rockier numbers on display here Thinkuboutmi, Hey Joy...,) didn't do much for me, to be honest. I've had this CD for a while now, and I have refrained from posting a review, as I wanted to see if this CD as a whole grew on me. The Songs I am feeling are Masks (a Rockier number that I do feel) Pray, and Time (which has a blue/soul feel to it which is very addictive)
I do hope this CD doesn't fall through the cracks, and Hidden Beach will support him as a new emerging artist. So whilst this isn't a bad debut per se, and I do admire an artist that is willing to take a chance and present a CD that doesn't follow the status quo, the results themselves are mixed.
