Free Music Notes for Be HereFree Music Review: Here is Urban's best so far Hit: 5 Stars
Don't let this CD's position in the country bins fool you, Keith Urban's third solo outing Be Here will be a cross genre hit. Equipped with an arsenal of stringed instruments (acoustic, electric, slide and 12-string guitars, mandolin and banjo), Urban shines as a multi-talented artist. He's a true vocalist, punctuating his songs with hums and coos that add a distinctive flavor to his work.
The Billboard number one track "Days Go By" starts the CD off with a bang. The positive theme is continued through most of the songs, reflecting the life and faith of a man who has battled his demons and kept them at bay. Urban attests to this himself with "God's Been Good to Me." If a disk has two tracks with the same significant word, they had better both be stand outs. This is achieved with "Better Life" and "You're My Better Half." "Better Life" with it's funky banjo is the better better song, but both are single-worthy. Who knew a banjo could be funky in the first place? The pace slows down for the romantic Rodney Crowell ("Raining on Sunday") penned "Making Memories of Us" and the somber "Tonight I Wanna Cry." "Nobody Drinks Alone" is the highlight of the compilation. With lyrical depth and a killer guitar solo, this moving masterpiece will touch hearts and leave the listener in tears. Urban's traditionalist country roots are not forgotten. The toe-tapping "Live to Love Another Day" harkens back to his days in The Ranch. Oddly enough the low point of the CD is the Elton John/Bernie Taupin hit "Country Comfort." Perhaps this is due to placement since anything would pale when following "Nobody Drinks Alone," but it seems significant that a John/Taupin song could be the low point on any CD. Be Here comes full circle with "These Are the Days," which is a beautiful reprise of "Days Go By," dedicated to Urban's grandmother.
Keith Urban better hold on tight because a juggernaut is about to launch him to the heights of success. Topping all this talent off with Jon Bon Jovi-like charisma and down-home good guy sex appeal, Urban will not be confined to a single category. The stratosphere is the limit. I suggest for anyone reading this to be here for the ride.
Free Music Review: Terrific New Music! Hit: 5 Stars
This could very well be Keith Urban's best CD. First, his incredible musicianship is first-rate. Urban is an incredible guitar player (just go to one of his concerts and watch him go through 20-different guitars during a typical performance!) and his work here is wonderful. His band is a tight-knit driving force that is fun to see live in person and it translates well here. Chris McHugh is a human drumming machine! I've noticed that Keith typically has a lot of syncopation changes in his music...it's refreshingly unpredictable. This CD is playful, soulful, rocking, introspective and just plain wonderful. He even modulates his voice a little more than usual into the higher octaves. Sounds wistful and haunting...A little Singing Cowboy Yodeling, perhaps? Well, it works. EVERYTHING on this CD works. It is really well engineered, too. The sound is crisp and bright. Lots of different layers that overlap perfectly. Every time you play it, you hear different instruments coming through the mix and different musical phrasings. Hint: listen to every song all the way through because there's a little surprise on most of them. Keith doesn't end his songs in the traditional spots in the song...like a drumbeat or music fading out. There's always some different, eclectic stylistic touch. From an emotional standpoint, Keith Urban really bares all in his voice which can be strong and driving to soft and very personal. He even takes lyrics that look a little silly on paper "I wanna honor your mother, I wanna learn from your Pa, I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw" come across as wonderful, too...almost like a private little joke between the singer and his fans. Also, when I first saw the track "Nobody Drinks Alone" listed on the CD, I thought it was going to be a typically upbeat, uptempo country music salute to imbibing. I was wonderfully surprised by the darkness of the lyrics (by Matraca Berg and Jim Collins) "
Every demon, every ghost from your past, and every memory you've held back follows you home. Nobody drinks alone." Wow. Five stars. Now, how about a Keith Urban LIVE CD? I'd be first in line to buy that, too. Happy listening, Urbanites!
Free Music Review: Best country artist out there Hit: 5 Stars
Keith Urban is such a talented artist. He conveys such emotion unlike alot of other country artists. His guitar solos are unparalleled and his optomistic view of life is refreshing, his break-up songs heart rending.I love the universal lyrics and screaming guitar solos that make him famous. This album in particular has alot of great songs.
Days Go By-a refreshing, upbeat song about living life now and not missing it.One of his best.
Better Life-my favorite of his.About him and his significant other finding better life and times in the future.Keeps its momentum throughout the whole song and he just goes all out.
Making Memories of Us-a nice soft song with really sweet lyrics.
God's Been Good to Me-Keith wrote this basically as a testimony of how God's blessings on him, which is especially special because of his past.
The Hard Way-takes a look at a relationship that's not working out,but nobody's walking away.I love the chorus. It's so sweet.
You're My Better Half-a catchy, upbeat song about the support and love he gets from his significant other.
I Could Fly-a "thank you" song to his love for making him feel alive.Interesting accompaniment.
Tonight I Wanna Cry-who hasn't heard this song?Heart breaking with the gorgeous piano and strings accompanying Keith's mellow voice.
She's Gotta Be-this is like a self beatdown for giving up this girl.I wasn't too impressed.
Nobody Drinks Alone-in (as far as I'm concerned)Keith's best guitar performance,he explains the empty feeling and guilt that comes with drinking.
Country Comfort-a song about home-grown country life. This was the only one in this album that I actually didn't like. The verses are pathetic.
Live to Love Another Day-an unusual breakup song in that it focuses on the positive-life goes on.
These Are the Days-basically a reprise of Days Go By.Starts off softly with profound and heart-felt statements about living life(The highest of flames becomes an ember)and gradually crescendos into Days Go By.
Free Music Review: Be Here review Hit: 5 Stars
I review C.D.s by adding up how many stars I give each song, and then divide that number by the amount of songs on the C.D. So, if I give a C.D. 5 stars, that's REALLY good.
>Days Go By: 5.5/5 stars: A great song to start off the album, it's a fast, fun little tune, but it's also a "message" song.
>Better Life: 6/5 stars: One of Keith's all-time greats, showing off his guitar and songwriting skills incredibly.
>Making Memories of Us: 4/5: I'm not a ballad person, but I like this one. The instruments are mixed togehter so beautifully.
>God's Been Good to Me: 5/5 stars: A great up-tempo foot tapper that features Keith at his "countriest".
>The Hard Way: 3/5: A fine song, but it wore on me after a while.
>You're My Better Half: 4.5/5: One of Keith's signature up-tempo love songs that just begs to be sang along to.
>I Could Fly: 4.5/5 Another of Keith's more country-than-pop songs, it's basically the same as "My Better Half", and just as good.
>Tonight I Wanna Cry: 4/5: One of the saddest sounding songs in country music, it's written and sung so well.
>She's Gotta Be: 5.5/5: It's sad, but it's a head bobber, and I love the echo-back bridge.
>Nobody Drinks Alone: 6/5: Another of Keith's absolute best. The song tells a great story and the guitar is phenomenal.
>Country Comfort: 4/5: A remake of an Elton John song, Keith manages to throw some nice banjo and steel guitar in the mix.
>Live to Love Another Day: 4/5: A stand-back-up song with a bluegrass feel.
>These Are the Days: 4.5/5: A reprise of "Days Go By", but you wouldn't know it until the end.
All in all, we get roughly 4.6/5 stars, which is just enough for me to round up to 5/5. There is something for the pop listner, the country listener, and for over-protective moms, there's nothing inappropriate to worry about. I guarantee that you will at least find one sogn on here you like (even just a little).
Free Music Review: You DEFINITELY WANT TO BE HERE for this CD!! Hit: 5 Stars
You definitely want to "Be Here" with this CD!!, September 23, 2004
Reviewer: Rebecca Morgan (Memphis, TN USA) - See all my reviews
Keith Urban does it once again! He has taken us to a different plane. With Be Here keith explores life and love and living in the here and now! Not living in the tomorrows and yesterdays. All 13 songs have catchy foot stomping bee bopping rhythm. Keith has grown so much muscially over the past few years. You can tell it in the choices of songs on this CD. He said this one is an extension of the Golden Road and I feel that is so true. It is like BH picks up where GR left off in his personal growth and putting his demons behind him.
I can't wait to see him live and hear this CD live. He plays the heck out of the guitar (If you have not seen him, you don't know what you are missing).
He brings tears to your eyes with "Making Memories Of Us" a song written by Rodney Crowell for his wife for Valentines, and "Tonight I Wanna Cry" written by keith and a co-writer. This songs brings to life the pain that one suffers when one loses their love. Keith has captured the emotion that we all go thru when our heart is broken or breaking.
I could not name a favorite track because I LOVE all 13 of them. "Days Go By" exploded onto the country charts as will the rest of the songs on the CD. This is a definite MUST HAVE for any music lover. Aside from keith's amazing vocals/backing vocals I love the guitar solos that he does. He has such an amazing talent!!
Go out and buy this CD!! It will be the best music buy all year!! You will be stomping your foot thru most all the songs and pondering the heart on a couple.
WAY TO GO KEITH!! I LOVE IT! I am PROUD TO BE AN URBANITE!!!
