Free Music Review: Taking A Golden Urban Road...
Hit: 5 Stars

In the seeming reawakening of country music (at least country music that you find yourself humming), I actually gave country music a chance and found that 90% of it I still dislike; however, when I do find a rare album, it tends to grab my attention quite nicely and Keith Urban's Golden Road is no exception. After hearing "Somebody Like You", "Jeans On", and then "Raining on Sunday" online, I decided that I'd go out and buy this album..after all three great songs, can the album really be that bad? All I could say on first listen is wow...I've never heard anything like this in my life, even from other country artists that I like (Kenny Chesney, some Tim McGraw). The album opens with the infectious blended "Somebody Like You" of banjo and great lyrics...it's very very upbeat and a great way to open up the album. "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me" is a great song that keeps up the tempo established by the first song..and at this point in my life, I can relate to having that laid back attitude in the face of things like no extra money and no job as of recent..but this song definately had me smiling when I heard it. "Whenever I Run" seems to head back to the older roots of country I remember with a slow rhythm but great lyrics...good song. "What About Me" is a song with a good rhythm and good lyrics but I'd have to say it's my least favorite song on the album. "You'll Think of Me"...this song could have been sung to me a year ago but on a serious note, this is such a sad sad song but I really really like it with the vocals and instrumental accompaniment..my favorite song on the album by far. "Jeans On" is just a fun song that made me laugh the first time I heard it but it's really laid back too...great song for anyone who looks for a time to just relax. "You Look Good in My Shirt"...wow the relation you can have to lyrics when you can see yourself doing things like this...I really enjoy this song too with the upbeat tempo and great lyrics that are so sweet and cute. "You're Not Alone Tonight" really seems to tackle some of the issues that Keith dealt with prior to this album...it speaks of those times of loneliness and hardship but always remembering that there is always someone there even in the darkest nights...great song. "You Won" is a good song on the album but not the strongest either. "Song For Dad" is an ode to his father that is very heartfelt and very sentimental...I enjoy it a ton and this definately stands out as an awesome tribute track. "Raining on Sunday"...the song that got me interested in this album...the lyrics are just fantastic and I love the great rhythm throughout the song not to mention the guitar solo towards the end that seems to indicate a rising passion that comes aflame...wonderful track and probably my second favorite. "You're Not My God" tackles the things that try to control life like [chemical substances], popularity, fame, money but they don't do anything but hurt more in the end...very fitting to end the album with and a testament to anyone who struggles with things in life that try to control them. "One Chord Song" appears at the very end of the final track and it captures the fun and carefree side of Keith Urban that makes me smile and laugh so much...what a great thing to add at the end of the album. I would venture to say this album is the best country album I've ever heard or even considered buying..it has all the elements of country but infuses elements of rock lightly within it too and makes it a great album for even the hardest rock fans and brings out the country in any person.

Free Music Review: Changed my persepective on country music...
Hit: 5 Stars

Until I heard You'll Think of Me on country radio courtesy of a friend, I couldn't stand anything remotely country. The first time I heard YTOM I was hooked. I bought the album right then, and have absolutely loved it and listened to it over and over again in the past year. I like it better than his first CD (that's a good CD too though) and I may even like it better than his latest, Be Here. I never get tired of it.

1. Somebody Like You 5/5: This was a huge hit (#1 for 8 weeks) and I can see why. It's awesome! The CD has an extended ending that isn't played on the radio.
2. Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me 5/5: I LOVE this song. Who wouldn't wanna be Keith Urban? This song is so HIM.
3. Whenever I Run 5/5: Also a great song, one of my favorites on the CD. I think he should have released it to the radio, because it probably would have gone to number 1.
4. What About Me 1/5: This is the one song that I've listened to over and over and tried to like, but I just don't like it. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just not very original. But if this is the worst Keith can do.....well, that's pretty good.
5. You'll Think of Me 5/5: Like I said, I love this song. It's not really that country, but it's an awesome song. It also has a longer ending that's rarely played on the radio.
6. Jeans On 5/5: I LOVE this song. It's kind of a funny song, I mean he's singning about putting his jeans on in the morning. He seems to be having so much fun singing it, and it's really a great song if you're in the mood for it.
7. You Look Good in My Shirt 5/5: I love the guitar on this song! And I love all the little random ad lib things that Keith throws in there.
8. You're Not Alone Tonight 3/5: I think I liked this song more in the beginning, but I have gotten kind of sick of it. It's good to listen to if you're upset though.
9. You Won 4/5: I didn't like this song much when I first got this CD, but it grows on you. I like it, even though I'm not exactly sure what it's about...
10. Song for Dad 5/5: Not a very original title, but it's a great song. It's nice to see that he feels like that about his Dad...
11. Raining on Sunday 5/5: Oh my gosh, this song....it's such a sensual song..and then with Keith singning it I just want to melt. It's the perfect song for him, and I could listen to it forever and never get sick of it.
12. You're Not My God 5/5: I didn't like this song either at first, but it's a great song. It's him--the whole story of his drug addiction and how he finally realized that he was hurting himself and decided to get help. It's definitely inspiring. Plus, there is a hidden track "One Chord Song" that is really creative and hiliarous!

Finally, as as bonus, you get the great CD insert. It's worth the $ for the insert alone...what a hot guy!

Free Music Review: Can Anyone Say Best Male Country Vocalist?
Hit: 5 Stars

Keith Urban's "Golden Road" is the first cd I bought from a male country artist. It is AMAZING!!! Here is how I rate each song on the album (in a 5 star scale):

1) "Somebody Like You"- great song, nice instrumentals, lengthy and it spent 6 weeks at the top of the country charts. (5 stars)

2) "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me"- one of my favorite uptempo songs ever. This song instantly made me a fan of Keith's. (5 stars)

3) Whenever I Run- I love this ballad song in the album. (5 stars)

4) What About Me- Nice song, co-written by Rodney Crowell. (5 stars)

5) You'll Think of Me- Great song about overcoming a breakup. The chorus is very catchy as well. I hope this song wins in the upcoming Grammy Awards. This song sounds awesome acoustic in concert. (5 stars)

6) Jeans On- Neat pop song on this album about jeans are a major part of Keith's life. Funny. Interesting beat. (5 stars)

7) You Look Good In My Shirt- This is such a great, fun midtempo song. You'll definitely like it. (5 stars)

8) You're Not Alone Tonight- My second favorite song on the album. Very soothing, calm, relaxing and re-assuring that whenever you are facing hard times you are not alone; there is a person in your life that will be there for you no matter what. Has nice imagery (ex: angels and muses) making it even more creative. (5 stars!!!)

9) You Won- Another song Keith co-wrote with Rodney Crowell. This one took longer to get used to, but I eventually liked it. hehe.(4 stars)

10) Song for Dad- AMAZING!!!!! The best song on "Golden Road" and probably one of my favorite male country vocal performances ever. Proves Keith is an excellent songwriter, musician and instrumentalist. Speaks about how influential his father is to him and how much he looks up to him as a role model. Should've been released as a single. This song is worth the price of the cd. Well done Keith! 6/5 stars!!!!)

11) Raining on Sunday- Great song about the things one may do when it is a boring, rainy Sunday. Starts out slow but the song builds up into an awesome ballad. (5 stars)

12) You're Not My God- A very powerful song about overcoming addiction and how several things in life should be used in moderation, cause too much is bad (ex: money and alcohol). (5 stars)

13) One Chord Song- Bonus Song one may hear upon fastforwarding the ending of the previous song. A good conclusion to this album. Shows Keith's voice being backed up with only one chord of "G" hehe. Funny Song. (5 stars)

Overall Rating: 5 stars!!!! Your CD collection is NOT complete without a copy of Keith Urban's "Golden Road." It is worth every penny.

Free Music Review: Simply the best!
Hit: 5 Stars

Keith Urban, country music extraordinare from the land down under, revealed a little of himself and his incredible talent with his first self-titled album. In "Golden Road", those talents are showcased and makes this, in my opinion, the best CD you'll purchase until Keith releases his third album! He is the perfect blend of country and rock music, so if you tend to lean towards "edgier" country music, you'll love this guy! Although he was named the American Country Music Association's Top New Male Vocalist and the Country Music Association's Horizon Award winner, I feel he is still highly underated. Not only did he write or co-write 8 of the 12 tracks, help produce the album, sang lead and backup vocals, he also played everything from his Fender guitar to a cardboard box. Keith can flat pick the strings off any guitar - electric or acoustic. He also plays what he affectionately calls a "gango", which is a 6 string banjo. You'll hear his out of this world guitar pickin' in every track and he knows exactly when and where to throw in that gango! His vocals are straight from the heart and never need any electrical enhancement.
The happy, upbeat "Somebody Like You" is the perfect tune to start this CD. It was the first single released and enjoyed 8 weeks at #1! The "funnest" song on the album has to be "You Look Good In My Shirt" while "Raining On Sunday" is my pick for the most romantic. He deals honestly and wonderfully with issues that have affected his life as well as most of us in "You Won" and "You're Not My God". There is the story of lost love which is told beautifully in "You'll Think Of Me" and the awesome tribute to his father in "Song For Dad". "You're Not Alone Tonight" really shows off Keith's song-writing ability and is the ultimate in comfort tunes.
I've seen Keith and his band in concert several times and when you listen to this CD, you get a very good idea of what you'll hear and enjoy at one of his live shows. You can hear and feel the fun he had making this album! The second single, "Raining On Sunday" was released to radio in December 2002 and I feel confident that it will be his first #1 hit of 2003. "Golden Road" is a must have CD for any music lover! You won't be disappointed - the only regret you'll have is not buying it the day it hit the store shelves.

Free Music Review: Who Wouldn't Want to Be ... KEITH URBAN!?
Hit: 5 Stars

As a self acclaimed veteran country music fan (ALL of my 24 years), I feel that I have heard enough of the saddening lyrics of days gone by. Keith Urban's sophomore album Golden Road is a prime example of how to perfectly mingle the emotions we all feel everyday of our lives. With the release of the #1 single "Somebody Like You" reaching the top of the charts with rocket speed, it is no wonder the 2nd single, "Raining on Sunday" is following the lead. The album is littered with emotional songs filled with lyrics that take you on a roller coaster ride through the deepest valleys of your heart. In "Who Wouldn't Want To Be Me" Keith sings about having very little "I got no money in my pockets," but enjoying his life and the people in it so much that he can actually ask "Who wouldn't wanna be me?" In "You'll Think of Me," Keith embarks on the emotional journey of a relationship gone astray against his wishes. The lyrics in the chorus leave us with this feeling of sweet revenge, " In fact, I'll feel a whole lot better, but you'll think of me." Although the song emits feelings of letting go, moving on, and being better for it, it is composed in a saddening rhythm, which leaves you with the contrast between the emotion in the lyrics and the emotion in the music. Keith's unique style of bringing the audience into his music emotionally is displayed with perfection. Keith also has the uncanny ability to create pictures in your mind along with pulling the strings in our hearts. In "You Look Good In My Shirt" Keith's lyrics involve rekindling an old flame, and how he could get used to seeing her in his shirt every morning. Of course I envisioned myself in his shirt and, in my opinion, I would look good in his shirt, too, I just need one. All in all, Keith Urban's sophomore album proves that emotion still reigns high on the charts, and it doesn't have to be sad all the time. It still feels good to laugh a little, too.
