Nashville Should have gotten down on their knees and thanked their lucky stars the day that native Australian Keith Urban pulled into town, some ten or twelve years ago. Instead, according to some accounts, it almost did him in. Well, they say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. If that be the case, then maybe Nashville deserves a little of the credit for Urban's new CD "Golden Road", a rock-solid effort that delivers a full dose of what his first state-side release only hinted at. While that CD, "Keith Urban" had one gem,"By the Grace of God", and a couple of good toe tappers, by comparison it seems over-produced and a little soul-less. Well, "Golden Road" has soul, heart and brains. Chances are, if you haven't already heard "Somebody Like You", you probably aren't reading this, so I don't need to tell you what a great pop song it is. It's followed up by the equally upbeat and radio friendly "Who Wouldn't Want to Be Me" (indeed!). But its the more reflective songs that really make this record shine. From love lost("You'll Think of Me") to love found ("Whenever I Run") to life's personal struggles ("What About Me", You're Not My God") Urban manages to accoplish that rare feat of both tugging the heart strings while at the same time getting in a few good licks on the guitar strings. And if "Song For Dad" doesn't put a lump in your throat, buddy you're cold! Keith Urban is decidedly in the "hip" country music camp, along with acts like Dixie Chicks, Rascal Flats, Nickel Creek and Emerson Drive, and like those groups, deserves an audience that goes beyond simply the country music fan (which I am generally not). If you like Sheryl Crow, REM, Ryan Adams or John Mellencamp you should give this CD a try.

Free Music Review: Golden Review. Hit: 5 Stars
Keith Urban is poised for superstardom. This album shows his writing, playing and producing talents all of which have matured into a great sound. This album includes "Sombody Like You" and "Raining on Sunday" both already hits for this aussie wonder, and "Who Wouldn't Want To Be Me" starting to go into rotation. Keith has other great songs yet to be discovered. "Whenever I Run" is a uptempo lovesong- any girl would love to have those words said to her. "Jeans On" is a catchy cover of a 70's novelty song."You're Not My God" drags down deep and makes a strong statement about addiction. "Song For Dad" is a beautiful song written by Keith for his dad. It shows the love he has for his dad- what a lasting tribute! "Your Not Alone Tonight" is a quiet reminder of our innerfaith in this crazy world. "You Look Good In My Shirt" is a catchy tune I think his record co is crazy if they don't relese it as a single. I can imagine it blarring from every barroom in the country."You Won" Co written with Keith by legendary Artist/Writer/Producer- Rodney Crowell. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall for that writing session. The song is a diddy dripping with honesty after years of hardliving. "What about Me" is another masterpiece from Crowell/Urban It is a song anyone can relate to. I personally think they might have read me mind when they wrote that one.By far the best song on the album is "You'll Think Of Me" it is a lasting song for anyone who has suffered a broken heart vocally Keith nails this one. I love this whole album and think it is a must have for any collection!!!!!
Free Music Review: Best Thing Since...Well, Whatever the Last Best Thing Was Hit: 5 Stars
I actually got this CD, Golden Road, for Christmas (Yes, waited a terribly long time to write a review, didn't I?) along with Kenny Chesney's Greatest Hits. I think my parents were having a compitition with each other to see which CD I liked better. Opening them, Mom said, "So, who's is better?"I said, "Kenny, duh," and my mom cried out in triumph. Then I popped in Keith Urban and ended up listening to it so much I had half the songs memorized in less than a day, virtually forgetting I even HAD my Kenny CD. You know a guy is good when he makes you forget Kenny. I loved almost every single song on this CD (I know I'm a wretched little girl for saying this, but "Jeans On" didn't, uh, "do it" for me, despite it's upbeatness, which I usually go for.) My favorite song by far is "You're Not Alone Tonight", a very beautiful ballad about love and hope, with extremely moving lyrics and I think my jaw unhinged when I saw the video for "Raining On Sunday" -- a sexy guy singing a sexy song can never miss. The upbeat songs totally rocked my socks (the guitar work is nothing short of abso-bleeding-lutely fantastic), especially "Somebody Like You." My grandma likes looking at this CD and saying, "Huh, every other song title has 'Me' in it. A bit egotistical, isn't he?" Well, if he is, then he deserves to be, because this CD is one of the best I've heard in a long time. I can only hope against hope that my plans hold up and I can see this gorgeous, outstanding vocalist in a concert. Golden Road is worth every single penny spent, and makes a fantastic gift too. ^-^
