Free Music Review: An Honest Album: All That Is Kelly Clarkson

When I first became a fan of Kelly Clarkson, I knew that one day, people would finally accept her for what she is: not only a singer, but an artist. Not only an Idol, but a star.
The lyrics on Breakaway will blow you away. Half of the album was written by Kelly, and I admit it, my favorites on the album are the ones she wrote on. That must mean something. She's talented like nobody's business. She's an all around artist. She writes songs, she doesn't lip-synch, and most of all, she cares about what her fans want. She made this album for her fans. She made it so we can relate to every second of it.
1. Breakaway - This was a phenomonal song, and a #1 hit on the radio. Breakaway starts out the album, reminding everyone why she is so radio-friendly. Being a fan, I have heard this song for a long time, but I haven't gotten tired of it. It's uplifting, it's emotional. It's a song that makes you want to just go...just go into your piece-of-junk car and live your dream.
2. Since U Been Gone - This is Kelly's "first" single off Breakaway. Breakaway was originally released for the Princess Diaries Movie, but added onto the album being a huge hit. This song is about a girl who used to be with this guy, and then all of the sudden, he leaves her for another girl. It will make her you want to trash your ex-boyfriend's/ex-girlfriend's apartment because they screwed you over. Haha! Just as surprised you were when they broke up with you is how surprised you will be when you hear the chorus. The chorus is JUST WOW.
3. Behind These Hazel Eyes - One of the best songs on here. I love them all, but this one stands out because the emotion Kelly brings into it. You can feel every ache she is feeling. Kelly co-wrote on this song. It is about being in, what you thought was, the perfect relationship, then the guy just tells you he doesn't love you like he thought he did. He leaves her alone to cry...behind her hazel eyes. The beat is just amazing. The guitar and the drums are simply AWESOME.
4. One of the best lyric-based songs on the album. Kelly wrote this one. "Because Of You" is not about someone loving you so much that you can "do anything." It's the complete opposite. It's not cheesy. It's far from cliched. The reason I'm saying this is, this song will bring you to tears. Anyone could relate to this song. "Because of You" is about being afraid to fall in love. Being afraid to "stray too far from the sidewalk" and to not know how to let anyone else in. It could be about this as well: These are kelly's words. "It's about anyone growing up in a broken home and having those thoughts constantly in the back of your head." This is the best song on the album if you want honest lyrics, and a beautifully sung song.
5. Gone - This song has the BEST drums EVER. I love listening to the drums, the guitar, and I have been listening to music for the longest time now. The drums in this song ROCK. The lyrics really relate to me. It's about how once you have finally moved on, but the guy/girl that dumped you have come back. They want to say they're sorry, they want forgivness. But to quote the song, "Sorry doesn't cut it, babe. Just take the hit and walk away..." Great song.
6. Addicted - I'm addicted to this song. This song has a very powerful chorus and bridge. The song is about knowing that you are in a bad relationship, you don't really love him, but you still see him...you still date him. You're addicted to him. In one part of the chorus, she sings, "It's like I can't think
without you interrupting me in my thoughts, in my dreams. You've taken over me. It's like I'm not me." I love these lyrics. Kelly also wrote this one, along with former Evanescense members Ben Moody and David Hodges.
7. Where Is Your Heart - Written by Chantal Kreviazuk, Kelly Clarkson, and Kara DioGuardi...this is a song that is pure emotion. That is ALL you hear from Kelly in this song. You can feel it in every word that this is how she felt at one point in her life. "Well, I don't expect the word to move underneath me, but for God's sake, could you try?" That part of the song will break your heart. The title explains the "theme" to the song so there is no explaination. Beautiful soulful ballad.
8. Walk Away - This is one of the coolest songs on here. Why? Because of the attitude. Because of the spunk you hear and feel in Kelly's voice. This song has an amazing beat, AWESOME chorus, and attitude. This song SHOUTS attitude. She's pissed at the guy who won't give her an answer to her only question, "Do you love me?" This guy will not get a clue. So she telling him, "I want a man by my side, not a boy who runs and hides. Are you gonna fight for me, die for me, live and breathe for me? Do you care for me? Cause if you don't, then just leave!" GREAT SONG!
9. Almost done! You Found Me. One of the "cutest" songs on here. Not because of the beat or anything. It's only cute because it's a very happy song. It's about a guy who has stayed by her side through the good times and the bad, through the ups and the downs. He "found her when no one else was looking..." This song is one of the songs on the album that is more happy than sad. Great guitar!
10. I Hate Myself For Losing You - Wow. Just Wow. The guitar in this song is awesome. Her voice is dead on. Thy lyrics are cool. "What do you do when you look in the mirror and staring at you is why he's not here..." I love her voice in this one. Very rockish.
11. Hear Me - 2nd best song on the album. The lyrics are SO TRUE. This is what the album should have been called. "Hear Me" relates to every single person in this world. This is not me simply saying that. These lyrics makes you want to cry. They make you want to scream. They make you want to just say everything you've been holding in for the longest time to the people you love. "Hear Me" is about wanting to be heard. You're not always strong, and no matter what anyone else says or believes, you still need help. You still need support in your life. "Hear Me" could also be about how you want your family members/parents/best friend to hear your dreams, hear what you have to say. This song...you will not be disappointed. This song also has a rock chorus to it that will blow you away. And the lyrics from beginning to end ARE HONEST...they grab at you.
12. Beautiful Disaster (Live) - A much better version than her first album "Thankful"'s version. This song is simply a piano and Kelly. Kelly sings so relaxed in this song, so pure. Her voice echoes the emotion in every second of the song. Her voice carries the lyrics throughout the whole song. And at the very end, she says "thank you". What a way to end an album, huh? She ends the album with the voice that made her win American Idol, the voice that made her win our hearts. And especially, the voice that will help her breakaway into her own artist, and at the same time, taking any genre by force and calling it her own. This album is her.

Instead she dug in her heels and allowed good sense (or a good manager) to steer, and somewhere Simon Fuller and the rest of the TV gang ought to be smiling. Credit Breakaway, which couldn't be more aptly titled--the sophomore effort represents a seismic split from the thin if pretty debut, Thankful. Here we encounter Clarkson as superstar, with the humility that made her likable on the first disc tucked tightly under her arm. First single and leadoff track "Breakaway" topped the pop charts on arrival, and its rock-friendly thumps, dips, and rolls don't wear out their welcome. Instead,they blend into the firestorm of beats and guitars that is "Since U Been Gone," another shout-it-out rocker. Those songs set the tone for the rest of the disc in all its fury: The innocence is long gone, "Addicted" and "Hear Me" say. The big, expressive voice ringed by the occasional high-pitch trill--the one that prompted millions to get behind her on Idol--doesn't dip entirely off the radar, though. On "Where Is Your Heart" and the stunning live closer "Beautiful Disaster," it's there in full force--a hint, maybe, that despite the wide, smart career step Breakaway represents, her fans come first. -Tammy La Gorce
