Free Music Review: Boy, Kelly Clarkson must have a great life!
Hit: 5 Stars

To start... For sure, nearly any person can safely say that they've heard the song "Since U Been Gone". However, don't be fooled by the guitars and almost shouted chorus; this is definitely pop. In my opinion, "Since U Been Gone" is actually one of the weaker tracks on the album, so those of you who still love it are in for a treat. This review is kind of long, so those who don't want to read it all should just skip down to the second-to-last paragraph.

The very beginning of the album starts with the title song: Breakaway. Kelly gives off a feeling of quiet desperation, thinking that she'll never amount to anything. Avril Lavigne did write this song, yes, but Kelly did an amazing job putting her own emotion into the song.

After the aforementioned two mega-hits (Breakaway and Since U Been Gone) is her lesser hit, Behind These Hazel Eyes. This song is more tragic and powerful than the first two; Kelly is NOT happy with how things are going, and this is the first time in the album we see this side of Kelly: A sadder side, betrayed countless times, that can't get over this most recent disaster. This side comes up numerous times in the album, and each time shows that Kelly is capable of putting enough emotion into a song to rise above the guitars that are used all-too-often. However, Behind These Hazel Eyes is certainly one of the most memorable songs in the album that says that not everything's as happy as they seem in Kelly's world ("No I don't cry on the outside anymore").

By this point, Kelly does not let up on darker lyrics, and the next track is my favorite. Because of You was written about Kelly's divorced parents, and how her mother and father would put her in the middle of it (She helped write this, and most other, songs on the album). It starts with a simple piano, and shows Kelly's true vocal ability. By the end of the bridge, Kelly hits a note that is higher than many other singers can't reach near, and the very end of the song holds some of the most powerful lyrics of the album ("Because of you, I'm ashamed of my life, because it's empty...").

Gone is the next song, which is almost like a companion to Since U Been Gone. They are about the same thing, essentially, a bad relationship that Kelly's gotten over. It is a good song in its own right, but it's nothing you haven't heard before. On the other hand, it has phenomenal energy, rivaled only by Since U Been Gone and a later track, Walk Away. It should also be important to note the very, very end. There is a backup vocal done by Kelly that is higher than anything I have ever heard. I am unsure that Mariah Carey herself could've pulled this vocal track off.

Addicted was written by Ben Moody, who used to be a guitarist in Evanescence. Addicted certainly shows a slight similarity to some Evanescence songs, and Kelly sounds a little bit similar to Amy, which is a good thing. This shows Kelly's sadder side again, but it gives a feeling of building insanity, and the bridge is the highlight of the song, which makes the song almost feel like a spiraling fall into madness.

Where is Your Heart is probably one of the weaker songs on the album, although it may simply be dwarfed by comparison to a similar song, Because of You. This song is good, and gives Kelly another chance to do the slower songs that she is best suited for, but it's emotional ability is very low compared to Because of You. It's a melodic, pretty song, but Kelly seems like she goes into autopilot for a song.

By the next song, the energy level drastically shoots up. Walk Away is a very rhythmic song, almost like Gone with more aggression. This seems like it's about the part of the relationship where it's almost over, Kelly has decided that her man is not passionate enough, or doesn't seem to care about her enough. I'm sure that there's plenty of frustrated people who can relate. It's not one that you'll want to hear over and over, as the melody can get annoying, but rather one that if you just listen to it once in a while, you'll love it.

You Found Me is the happiest song of the album. It starts out in an amazing way, with Kelly perfectly emoting the verse, which can be summed up in the line: "I've become comfortably numb". She sings it unhappily, but you can almost feel that she's given up on love. Her surprise is your surprise as well, when it suddenly shifts to a happy chorus that perfectly portrays her feelings of surprise and joy when she realizes that love isn't so bad after all. And even when it goes back to the verse, you can feel the difference in the way Kelly emotes the lyrics, even though the melody stays the same. This is when Kelly is at her emotional best.

The next track is significantly darker, and I suspect that it may be connected to You Found Me. I Hate Myself for Losing You has a certain sense of shock, and relates quite well to a statement Kelly made about the album: "Just when you think everything's perfect, 'Oh, look, you're with someone else. That's SUPER.'" The placement was done very well, and the song portrays the self-loathing in more places than the title phrase. It holds a certain lyrics that I liked in particular: "What do you do when you look in the mirror and staring at you is why he's not here?" It even makes a very, very, vague reference to suicide, a generally taboo topic in the pop genre.

The next track, Hear Me, is the last new song on the album, but the verses leave much to be desired, both lyrically and emotionally. Coming right after I Hate Myself For Losing You may be the song's own undoing, as this would be another case of being dwarfed by comparison. It isn't a bad song, simply average, and it's placement would likely have been better after Where Is Your Heart?.

The album finally ends after a very satisfying live performance of Beautiful Disaster. Kelly is the sort of artist who is much better live.

As the bottom line, in this sub-genre of the pop industry (similar artists being Ashlee Simpson and Hilary Duff), it can be difficult to trust the realism of the artists. Many fans ended up feeling betrayed after Ashlee's lip-synching incident, or perhaps after a less-than-pleasant live performance by Hilary. And though Kelly doesn't completely write her own songs, she does help write most of them, and this makes her own performances that much better. The emotion in her voice, her impressive (although occassionally faltering) energy level, and her vocal range and singing ability all come together to create one of the best pop albums of the year.

I look forward to Kelly's future work, especially if she writes her own songs. She has plenty of emotion, and I know that she can do even more with it.

Best Tracks:
"Behind These Hazel Eyes"
"Because of You"
"Addicted"
"I Hate Myself For Losing You"
"Beautiful Disaster (Live)"

Free Music Review: SPECTACULAR!! Way better than her first album!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

'Breakaway' was truly a breath of fresh air for me, shining through a sea of incredibly disappointing releases lately (from Destiny's Child, Gwen Stefani, etc.). I was a tad skeptical when I discovered that Kelly Clarkson was making a second album-I feared she would make the same missteps she did in her first album. But boy, was I wrong!! This album absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. I will be shocked if it doesn't produce at LEAST 4 radio hits (if not 6 or 7). Almost any song on here could be a hit-Kelly decided to lay off the dreary ballads which littered her debut and stick to the "Miss Independent"/"Low" formula-which is a massive improvement. Here is a review of each song on this wonderful album:

BREAKAWAY- I'm sure we've all heard this one on the radio. I simply cannot even begin to fathom why so many people here aren't loving this song!! Some say it's a frothy, fluffy pop ballad-sound-wise, that *might* be the case, but who cares? It delivers an incredibly powerful message that I can relate to-and it is very catchy, the melody's great. Such a beautiful song. I love listening to it; one of the best songs here. (5/5)

SINCE U BEEN GONE- I was concerned over how Kelly would top a song like "Breakaway" for the album's next single, but MAN did she come through!! This song is incredible, a hard-rocking, insanely catchy song you can really dance to-it has the same irresistible appeal as "Miss Independent"-although this might just be better! Great lyrics, too. This will get stuck in your head and you will want to listen to it over and over!! (5/5)

BEHIND THESE HAZEL EYES- I am a bit ashamed to say....^^; even after hearing "Breakaway" and "Since U Been Gone" on radio and on TV, I thought those two would be the only good songs on the new album. And why wouldn't I, that's how every new album's been lately. But! Kelly comes through once again, proving once and for all she has staying power. This song is another hard-hitting pop rock-out, also delivering great lyrics and a catchy chorus (though the verses are just as catchy). She co-wrote this song. And yes, people might get irritated by the comparison, but this *does* sound like something Avril would sing. But why is that a bad thing? I like Avril. Anyways, once again, great! (5/5)

BECAUSE OF YOU- The first true ballad here ("Breakaway," like "Low," is a power-ballad, with some rock mixed in). It's a guaranteed radio hit, but I don't like this one quite as much as the first three. But her gorgeous voice is shown off here; it isn't hidden under an overproduced backing track. I still like it, though-great lyrics, a sad song. And I like the chorus. This is more reminiscent of the old Kelly-fans of her soulful ballads get some ear candy here. I really like it, but don't adore it. Someday, I might regret giving this song only 4 stars, but..... (4/5)

GONE- This is another really great one! Time for more rockin' out! XD An infectious beat; I love the chorus. Great lyrics, once again. You can dance to this one, too. So awesome.... (5/5)

ADDICTED- I know someone who should really listen to this song!!! It's about being addicted to your lover, something a few people out there could relate to, I'm sure. The beat isn't as crazily infectious as some of the opening tracks, but I really like the lyrics....so for that, a reluctant 5 stars are rewarded. (5/5)

WHERE IS YOUR HEART- A very sad, beautiful song. One of the few slow songs here. I really like the lyrics, and the chorus. But the beat.....hmmmm....could've been better. (4/5)

WALK AWAY- This is another one I love! Can't compete with, say, "Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone," or "Gone," but I still really like it. Someone said this song is the most pop, but I totally disagree with that. This one's chorus actually sounds a lot like country, not pop at all. But it's still rock-ish, and very catchy. Love it! (5/5)

YOU FOUND ME- This one has a very nice start, and I like the chorus. Catchy, fun, sweet message. (4/5)

I HATE MYSELF FOR LOSING YOU- One of the worst ones here, but that's not saying much, because it's not that bad ^^;. It's sort of an upbeat song, but kind of dull; can't compete with the really, really great ones here. But it's so-so. (3/5)

HEAR ME- This one's okay, but not fantastic. I guess Kelly outdid herself so much with the opening tracks, the later not-so-incredible ones seem worse. It's sort of boring, seems too similar to everything else here. But this one's not horrible. (3/5)

BEAUTIFUL DISASTER [LIVE]- I saw that this track would be included, and after hearing every other song, I thought this would end up being the album's only true misstep. But I was wrong, yet again! Though this is a somewhat dull ballad, Kelly sings like an angel live, and this just sounds beautiful-maybe even better than the album version. (4/5)

OVERALL SCORE: 52/60

This album is utterly fantastic, and is a must-have for Kelly fans who were hoping for more upbeat songs from her, and fans of excellent pop/rock music in general. I really didn't think I'd be hearing much of Kelly after her debut....other than "Miss Independent," "Low," "A Moment Like This," and "You Thought Wrong," I really couldn't draw much enjoyment from her debut. But like I said in my review of that, she had potential and I knew she could do better-and she certainly did much, much better with her sophomore disc!! "Miss Independent" used to be my favorite song by her, but after hearing this, it barely makes the top five!!! She has an unbelievably beautiful voice, very catchy, fun songs, and meaningful lyrics we can all relate to. Kelly Clarkson is now one of my favorite artists, and I eagerly anticipate her next album. Go out and buy this album now, you will not regret it!! Kelly, rock on!!! I hope this sells really well, you deserve it!!

Free Music Review: One of the few good albums out there.
Hit: 5 Stars

There's Gwen, with her retro pop music, obsesssing over Japanese women; there's Mariah Carey, with her 'comeback' album; then, there's Miss Kelly Clarkson. Kelly has really strived out from the American Idol fantasy, and turned herself into a beautiful, rock/pop superstar.

You can go buy Mariah's album, and listen to her squeak up to get to her high vocals like she used to be able to do. That's what coke does to you kids; it takes your voice. Personally, go out and buy Mariah's older albums, the ones before her 'Rainbow' album cover sell-out.

You can go snatch Gwen's album, and listen to her attempt at a solo career from No Doubt, which was, one of the greatest bands with a woman lead singer, failing miserably. I'm so rich that I need to make a song about it, hell, why don't I try to increase sales and get some Japanese girls. Everyone loves Japanese girls!
/ sarcasm.

Then you can buy Kelly's album, and see what a difference it is. Her songs have a meaning, and they are full of life, growing, and leaves you on the peak for a new album. They shine through the, 'I'm so rich & I'm making a comeback!' music, to prove that there are good female singers in the world, you just have to find them.
Don't get discouraged because she was on AI. AI discovered her, and they helped her get to where she is.

I don't know why Simon's making a big deal and calling out Clarkson for not mentioning Idol for her awards. She doesn't need to. It's called free speech Simon. I laughed when Kelly said American Idol couldn't use her songs. AI has no talent, and the no-talenters don't need to be singing a song full of talent, and she realized that. And so, I thought I'd give a track overview, so here it is.

Breakaway - Hah. This was the song that got me hooked and told me, Kelly's album's out. It's bright and quiet, until the end where the peak shows and the song develops the addicting pleasure of it, yet, a little too low Kelly; bring out your true voice. 9/10

Since U Been Gone - I started exploring and I found this song was released. It made me instantly want the CD, like Breakway didn't do it enough. It's rocky and poppy tune gets stuck in your head and won't leave, and in the good way. It'll make you /want/ to sing along with her. One of the best tracks of the new age. 10/10

Behind These Hazel Eyes - My favorite song on the album. It truely brings out her voice, and it shows how high Miss Clarkson can reach, without straining herself. It's dark, and it revels what I think, everyone wants to say during a hard breakup, to where you just want to get them for all their worth, and show them how they hurt you. 10/10

Because of You - Why do people hate this song? It's the slowest on the album, yet beautifully written. She wrote this herself? That's amazing. The song brings out all out pain and shows you that lives aren't always as perfect as people think. The piano only version, I had to find it, since I'm a sucker for piano, is gorgeous. Just from the piano you can feel the emotions as if her voice was there. Also, why do people hate it because she simply says damn? It's not a big deal, damn isn't really offending as other words would be, but it shows her anger in the situation. 10/10

Gone - This one's a little weird. At the end she's up really high and trying to sing, which shows she's trying something new, but she started to strain herself a bit. Back up a little bit Kelly. We all love high notes, but not too high. The song's got the feeling that makes you want to dance, many, many times. 9/10

Addicted - My second favorite, and the best track on the album. She's got all these different sounds int he song, such as synthesizers, orchestration, and of course, the piano. It is a bit darker than BTHE, and it shows. It's the feeling that you can't get away, not just because you're obsessed with a person, but for many other things. Her voice is strong, and this should have been her last single, not Walk Away. 10/10

Where is Your Heart - I don't like the song one bit. It's bland, and borng. 4/10

Walk Away - I don't think this song should've been her single, but it's a nice song. I love at the ending how it sounds like she's screwing off an extra 20 seconds of the song - hah! She sounds pissed, and the lyrics, plus her voice show it, and that's the thing that pulls the song in order. It does get boring after a while, like she could've done better. 8/10

You Found Me - Not my favorite, but a nice song in that. Kelly sticks to her voice in the middle, low ranges and makes the song sound happy and expressive. It does sound like it could have been bigger and better however. 7/10

I Hate Myself for Losing You - Another one of my favorites. Another song that expresses her pain, and it does give some notes, for example, "How do you cry when every tear you shed, won't ever bring him back again?" As if saying, guys aren't to be cried over, because they'll screw you over anyway. 9/10

Hear Me - Another great piano tune. It truely tells that she wants be heard, and she's ready, but no one cares. It's an amazing song, and it shows through. 10/10

Beautiful Disaster [Live] - I'm not a fan of live songs, so no comment. -/10

I have to admit, this CD makes you sing along to a beautiful voice full of energy. It's sad that when I choose to sing along to songs, the only female artists are Kelly, and t.A.T.u. Thankful was a flop, but Breakaway really is an album to be proud of.

Free Music Review: Kelly Broke away
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson has surely broken away from her previous album-from sound to lyrics. Kelly Clarkson really amazed me, how she truly is very versatile in her music. Don't expect ballads like The Trouble With love or Some Kind of Miracle on this record. This album is much more rock. Tracks within this album are full of well composed drum beats, guitar riffs, and more.

1. Breakaway 5/5: This track is one of the different tracks compared in contrast with the others because, of course, this song came from the Princess Diary's soundtrack. This song has good vocals with a catchy chorus. This track though, does seem more oriented to the younger audiences-and again we know why. Basically a song about, breaking away and doing the things that one desires.
"I won't forget the ones that I love..."

2. Since You Been Gone: 5/5: is about a song about what happens when someone's gone and basically you're able to get the things you want. This song has a nice bass underlying among the layers of music. The lyrics are catchy, and vocals are great. Check out the remixes to this song. First single for this album (not counting Breakaway.)
"You had your chance you blew it..."

3. Behind These Hazel Eyes 5/5: is Kelly's next single for the radio, with a video accompanying it in mid April. This song has great vocal presentation, with a great backing up band. The song is about a break up, things one basically experiences because of the break up, "You won't get to see the tears I cry.."

4. Because of you 4/5: I like this song a lot, but the lyrics are a little repetitive in the chorus. She never strays away from the side walk means the exact same thing as I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt. Other than that, I really like this song. It's like the only slow song that you will hear on this album of new material. I'm not sure what this song is about exactly, but on the surface, it's about a person's lost that makes someone scared of experiencing love again.
"I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty..."

5. Gone 5/5: A great rock track. This track has a really great showcasing of Kelly's vocal ability. I don't know how she pulls it off, but she does. It's a up beat rock song about basically leaving someone for their wrong doing. The music is wonderful. I really enjoy the backing vocals to this track, and the addlibs.
"Sometimes shatter, never broken..."

6. Addicted 5/5: this song starts off slow in the verses, but rock off with the chorus. This song is basically being obsessed to a person that you aren't able to see anything else. I really enjoy the bridge, although I did feel that it almost sounded like system of a down's song, toxicity. But again, her vocals are outstanding. The band is great behind the vocals.
"I'm hooked on you I need a fix.."

7. Where is your heart 4/5: is a semi slow song? It's slow but still rocky, that's how I would describe it. It's a song about her lover not putting out enough, in terms of love and stuff. I really like the emotions that Kelly put into this song. Her range is also displayed in this song.
"You can say anything, anytime you need, baby it's just you and me..."

8. Walk Away 3/5: is a song about basically telling a person to "walk away" if you can hang and prove yourself. This song is really different from all the tracks. I don't say I dislike it, but I will most likely put it at the end of the playlist. Great vocal ability is found in this song though.
"I wanna love, I wanna feel the burn in my desire..."

9. You found me 5/5: is the one happy love song that you will find in this track. Basically a song about how a person had found her and could see the things in her that many can't. I really like the music and the lyrics to this song. It's nice. Just something different, from the other love songs that are more slightly depressing.
"How did you know just where I would be?"

10. I hate myself for losing you 3/5: is also another song that I don't dislike wouldn't mind moving to the end of the playlist. It's a song about basically hating one's self for losing a person for the things one has said etc. Kelly does a great job singing it, and the music is okay.
"what do you say when everything you said is the reason why he left you in the end?"

11. Hear Me 6/5: I love this track. It's really wonderful, in terms of music, vocals, everything. Kelly Clarkson really sings this song well. I really enjoy the bridge a lot. I also thing the arrangement of the backing vocals is great. Kelly did a wonderful job. Great song.
"I'm restless and wild, I fall but I try..."

12. Beautiful Disaster 4/5: I really enjoyed the piano version of this song that she performed at the concert. She got really positive reactions from this performance, and so she included this in the album. It is different from the album version. This one is much more emotional, and is live. Wow.
"I'm longing for love and the logical..."

This album is great. Kelly's vocal abilities are truly exemplified throughout all the tracks in this album. She wrote half the songs on this album which truly is good for an artist who wants more respect. Kelly got mine. She's on tour! I'll be seeing her on the 24th of May! Hope to see the Kelly Fans!

Free Music Review: The Best Album This Year (amazingly from an american idol)
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, you read that correctly, i believe that Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" is the best album of the year. Powerful vocals, fearless lyrics and flawless producing have all come together to create a surprisingly strong album from an american idol. I expected Kelly to continue down the simple path to stadom by recording more pop song reminiscent of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The simple fact that Avril Lavigne co-wrote "Breakaway" and that Ben Moody (formerly of Evanescense) was involved in the creation of the album, left me hope for something spectacular. Kelly Clarkson did not disappoint. Here is a breakdown of the songs included on "Breakaway"

1) Breakaway- what can i say about this song. I loved it from the first moment i heard it. I noticed that Avril Lavigne co-wrote the song but i this song is perfect for Kelly. The message in the song is beautiful. I live in a large city and still could relate because i am dying to go somewhere other than here. I feel that this song strongly demonstrates that desire to escape your current life.

2) Since U Been Gone- i have listened to this song so many times. It has a rock edge but is still a pop song. I love her voice in this song and her attitude. Before the album came out, i would play the video at my work computer so that i could hear the song. It's a break-up song but a positive break-up song, it show that you can be fine after the break-up.

3) Behind These Hazel Eyes- it's about internal suffering that you don't show the world, especially that person that hurt you. It can be tough to have to pretend to be happy and strong when you don't feel that way. This song is like none that i have heard before. It admits weakness but covers it up so that the person doesn't see the tears. My favorite song on the album.

4) Because of You- a slow song and not a love song that expected based on the title. A surprise. I understood it as a song that goes into a very different kind of relationship, one that is not positive. Whether it refers to someone in your family, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or someone else, i don't know. Amazing song and unlike anything i've heard before.

5) Gone- I love the beat to this song. It's fun and a very impowering song. It's a "breakaway" kind of song about leaving the current situation. Very different feel but similar theme except clearly about a significant other.

6) Addicted- I love this song, it's dark and deep. I once wrote a poem comparing love to a caffeine addiction and this has a very similar concept. It sounds more like addiction than affection and that is something that makes this song stand out. it's not the typcial "i love you , i hate you" kind of song. Her delivery is intense and unbelievable

7) Where is your Heart- not my favorite song. it's pleasant and i listen to it but it's not a song i get excited about. her voice sounds extremely beautiful here .

8) Walk Away - my favorite part is when she sing "I know that you know i know so what's the point in being so". it makes the song worth listening to over and over. i turn it up at that part in the song. it's a break-up kinda song also but so much more fun. there's a lot going on in this song and i recommend listening to it.

9) You Found Me- this is the one strong love song on this album. i love it because the positive feeling erradiates through the speakers. i enjoy this song so much. it starts of slow but it becomes almost like a rock ballad (with a pop edge) with the strong vocals and the music in the background. i love it

10) I Hate Myself For Losing You- i don't know if i would ever hate myself for losing someone but this is still a great song. a slower song which examines the fact that sometimes you are responsible for losing someone and it's hard to deal with.

11) Hear Me- is a plea for someone to listen to her. you can feel the pain in her voice and the need for attention from that person. i love this song, it's a mellow tempo but very intense due to the longing in her voice.

12) Beautiful Disaster (live)- very good song. chances are, if you are a kelly clarkson fan, you probably heard this song when it was originally released in a different format in her debut album. This song is powered by a piano instead of a synthetic beat. Her voice sounds perfect and the song should have been recorded this way originally. I liked the song on the first album but like it so much more in this format.

Overall, this album is spectacular. I recommend it no matter who you are. I am a 23 year old music fan (i love all genre's) and believe this is one of the best albums this year. My mom, who is a metallica fan, also enjoys this album (not her favorite album but she likes it). It's pop with a rock edge that most pop albums do not have. Hope this review is helpful. Bye, Stephanie
