Free Music Review: the best american idol has to offer
Hit: 5 Stars

Amongst the several artists from american idol that have released their own CD's, Kelly Clarkson clearly shines as the brightest one. This album only solidifies Kelly's place as American Idol's most successful contestant. With the aid of Clive Davis, Kelly has shifted from her American Idol pop sound found in Thankful to a more rock-oriented album à la Avril Lavigne. Lavigne also co-wrote the first single off the album, Breakaway. There are a few weaker songs on the album, but still a very solid effort that dispels any notions of a "sophomore slump".

Breakway - this song did not impress me at first. However, over time it does grow on you. Still, it is not the best song on the album.
8.5/10

Since U Been Gone - despite the obvious grammatical error in the name of the song, since u been gone is one of the best tracks on the album. This song does take some time getting used to, but it does prove to be one of the most addictive songs on the album. The bridge is stunning as Kelly showcases her vocal range.
9/10

Behind These Hazel Eyes - although this song has not placed as high as since u been gone, behind these hazel eyes betters the former in its lyricism, its melody, and kelly's voice. This song should have fared better on the charts.
9.5/10

Because of You - one of the slower songs on the album. Defintely one of the top three songs on this album. This song is reminiscent of her Thankful album. Kellys truly shows the beauty of her voice and that she can sing various genres through this song. This song is nostalgic, gorgeous, and truly a gem in the album.
10/10

Gone - a head-nodder and the most catchy song in the album. Once again, Kelly shows off her large range through the background vocals. A huge contrast with Because of You, but this song is a highlight in the album - arguably the best song in this album. the chorus is athemic and would prove to be extremely successful if released as a single.
10+/10

Addicted - at first, i didn't really like this song. i found the lyrics to be repetitive and simplistic. it was also hard to continue the momentum in the album that Gone had started. the bridge and verses aren't spectacular but the descant in the chorus add a wonderful touch. and like most of the other tracks in this album, it grows on you. after listening to it several times, it isn't a bad song
8.5/10

Where is Your Heart? - the lyrics in the verses aren't bad. but the title isn't exactly the best one - cheesy even. the chorus doesn't hold up the energy that the verses lead into with. a mediocre song that is forgettable.
7/10

Walk Away - the lyrics here are average. the song opens with great potential, similar to that of Gone. But, like Where is Your Heart?, the chorus isn't that catchy. By this point, the album starts slowly slipping into the realm of similarity. By this point, the songs seem to be mushing together and sounding very similar.
7.5/10

You Found Me - Fortunately, this song saves the album from falling in that direction. the lyrics are strong, but the song sound like it wants to turn into a typical american idol pop song, which is fine. However, it lingers, borderlining between the idol pop sound and kelly's new-found rock style. despite this, it proves to be an interesting song and saves the album, returning it to the high felt at the beginning of the album.
9/10

I Hate Myself For Losing You - defintely the weakest song in the album. The song seems to carry such potential at certain places, but with every repeating phrase of "i hate myself for losing you" it immediately turns the opinions of the listener from positive to bad. It has such a different voice leading, that it sounds even weird.
6.5/10

Hear Me - a great song on its own, but it pales in comparison with some of the highlights on this album: Gone, Because of You, and Behind These Hazel Eyes. The bridge saves the song from becoming lost in its similarity with the other songs in the album.
9/10

Beautiful Disaster (Live) - I know this song appears on Thankful, but it is truly one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The lyrics are exquisite, but are not written by Clarkson. The simple arrangement with voice and piano displays the beauty and Kelly's amazing control of her voice. What puzzles me is why this song was not released as a single. It is an excellent closing for this album and sent chills through my spine. Kelly shows why she is the best American Idol out there with this live performance. If you buy this CD for any reason, let it be because of this song.

Free Music Review: Exactly what I was waiting for!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been desperately waiting for Kelly's sophmore album since she first won American Idol. I knew that for her first album they would keep it somewhat similar to what she sang on A.I., so I would have to wait until here second album to hear the real her. Well ladies and gents, this is Kelly Clarkson! The rightfully titled Breakaway is a solid second coming for our American Idol queen. She really proved her talent as an artist with this collection to prove many people wrong. Below are my opinions of the songs along with a score. The scores are extremely picky because the WHOLE album is equally strong just about. So a 6 here would probably be a 9 if it were being compared to another album.

Breakaway- The first track on the disc and rightfully so. This is Kelly's way of saying "I'm here! I'm staying. You're about to see the real me." This song was made popular through the Princess Diaries soundtrack and has topped many countdown charts. (7/10)

Since U Been Gone- This is Kelly's second single from this album, and she really rocks out. It's a fun song that you will enjoy listening to. Another really solid song, and a wise choice to use as an introduction into her new style. (8/10)

Behind These Hazel Eyes- This is a song I didn't expect to be great because of the title, but I was wrong. It's not a heavy as Since U Been Gone, but it still has that rock feel. Another track that is just as strong as the first two singles. (7.5/10)

Because of You- Definitely one of the strongest songs on the album, however, in my opinion there aren't any weak songs. There is so much emotion that can be felt through Kelly, and it makes for a truly beautiful, slow song that has a GOOD chance of being a single. One of my favorites. (9.5/10)

Gone- This is one of my least favorites on the album. In my opinion, the verses weakien the song, and the vocals aren't as strong as they could be. The chorus is decent however, and I like the ending of it. Still a pretty good song. (6/10)

Addicted- Wow! Definitely one of the best songs on the album. If this isn't one of her singles, then there will have been a mistake. I'm actually going to say this is the best song on the album. It's dark (for what we are used to hearing from Kelly), it's real, and it's good. Wait until you hear the ending. Wow! (10/10)

Where Is Your Heart- Another beautiful song. Once again we are getting to see Kelly's emotion in her songs, and I love it. This song also has a great chance at being a single. Her vocals are wonderful and will not disappoint any Kelly fan. (9/10)

Walk Away- A really funky, fun, "let me tell you how it is", fun song. It's fresh and truly enjoyable. Some aspects make you think you've heard this before (and now that I'm saying this, I hope its not a cover), but it is a nice, lighthearted, song that came at a good time on the album. (7/10)

You Found Me- Another good, strong song for Kelly. Like everthing on this album, its enjoyable, a little rock, a little pop, and just a hint of ballad. Decent. (7/10)

I Hate Myself For Losing You- I'm running out of words to describe how all of these songs are just so good, even though they are all different. This is another. Once again, wait till you get to the end. It just builds up. There you go guys! lol (7/10)

Hear Me- Oh Wow! If Addicted isn't the best song on the album, then this is. There is so much depth that you are just drawn in. Definitely another possibility to appear as a single. I promise this will be one of your favorite tracks...just take my word for it. (10/10)

Beautiful Disaster (Live)- I LOVE this song. The first time I heard it, it gave me chills. I wanted her to send it out as a fourth single off of her album Thankful, even though the original version on there is faster. Kelly really shows her vocal ability with this song. Her power is overwhelming, yet her control and sincereness with the song make it a beautiful rendition. Plus, there seems to be more of a presence to this song because it is live. This, as well, would work extremely well as a single, but I don't think it will become one. (10/10)

This is definitely something worth owning. Kelly has created an album that could go extremely far, and I hope she milks it for what its worth. There are a number of songs that would work well as singles, some I'm anxious to see which three or four they will be. We've had Breakaway and now Since U Been Gone? What's next? Who knows, but whatever comes, it will be something great as usual.

Free Music Review: Breaks into you head and stays there, thankfully...
Hit: 5 Stars

The original American Idol Kelly Clarkson shot to major superstardom after a certain movie (um, shall I say `The Princess Diaries 2') used her song `Breakaway' as their theme song. While `Breakaway' is, dare I say, the weakest track on the album, it is, by all means, pure radio bliss. `Breakaway' made her a household name and the album bearing it's name made her a superstar. Sure, she was already mildly popular. Her debut album `Thankful' was decent and tracks like `Miss Independent' and `A Moment Like This' made their rounds on radio station after radio station but it wasn't until `Breakaway' that the general public embraced this songstress and realized that her talent exceeded some crazy TV show.

`Breakaway' the album spurned single after single. `Since You've Been Gone', her sophomore answer to `Miss Independent' blazed the pop charts and proved that Clarkson had spunk to accompany that voice and would later pave the way for her misunderstood and ill-received third album `My December'. `Behind These Hazel Eyes' was by far (in my humble opinion) the best of the singles released off this album. It's such a complete pop song and is the pure definition of memorable. `Because of You' was very well received (and have you seen that music video!?!?!) and rightfully so. It's a beautiful song. It's too band she allowed Reba to destroy it. Then we have `Walk Away', the fifth single off the album. This song has grown on my so much since it's started receiving loads of airtime. It's a very fun song that demands your accompanying vocals. In other words, be prepared to sing along.

`Gone' follows the format of pop track. It's bouncy and catchy and serves as a nice canvas for Clarkson's strong vocals. It's a very carefree track that will induce plenty of smiles. One of my favorite tracks on the album would have to be `You Found Me' which opens so gracefully and elegant before breaking into a wonderfully constructed chorus bent on getting stuck in your head.

`I Hate Myself for Losing You' would probably be the best way to describe where Kelly Clarkson was headed. `Since You've Been Gone' proved she could handle pop/rock well but `I Hate Myself for Losing You' proved that she needed to keep the pop an essential part of her music. When you strip away the pop appeal you have a song that appears somewhat misplaced and incomplete. `I Hate Myself for Losing You' is just that, misplaced and incomplete.

There are three tracks on this album that solidify Kelly Clarkson as a force to be reckoned with in my eyes. The first of these is `Where is You're Heart'. The song is a beautifully constructed ballad that showcases Kelly's impressive `contest winning' vocals, showing off her control and temperance as well as her power. The second of these is `Addicted', which is quite frankly my favorite track on the album. It's seductive and (I can't help it) addictive. I would listen to this song over and over without hesitation. The third song is the closing track `Hear Me', a song that embellishes Clarkson's fragility and delicacy and is, in the end, so infectious and memorable that it moves the listener to start the musical journey all over again. I talk a lot about the importance of the closing track, how it has the ability to either make you want to listen to the album all over again or make you glad it's finally over. `Hear Me' is a perfect example of how to select the perfect closing track. Yes, I know, `Beautiful Disaster' is actually the closing track (the live version that is) and it too is a splendid way to close this album out, but I consider `Hear Me' the actual `closing' track since it is an original track as apposed to a live cut.

`Breakaway' is a near perfect pop album. Sure, it has one snafu found in one misplaced song but that one snafu is barely a reason to complain. This is Clarkson's shining moment, a moment where she finally broke away from the restraints of a certain singing contest and proved that she is more than just some girl who won a title but a girl who deserves the title. The magnificent Carrie Underwood aside (who, in my opinion trumps Clarkson...but marginally) Kelly Clarkson can feel confident that she is one of the only `rightful' winners of the American Idol crown, and she has proven that her talent is far bigger than the show from which she spawned.

Free Music Review: Astonishing Album - a departure from American Idol
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson's sophomore album "Breakaway" is a departure from her American Idol days. In a way it's as if she graduated from American Idol and onto becoming a solo artist hence the album title "Breakaway." I did not pay much attention to her debut album or this one when it first came out...not yet anyway. It was not until I saw the end of an episode of Laguna Beach I heard "Since U Been Gone" that caught my attention. This also reminds me that I have heard the song "Breakaway" on the radio but I just couldn't figure out who sang it. Her voice is more mature and with much more music experience under her belt "Breakaway" is an amazing album. I will point out some of the more outstanding songs.

1. Breakaway - 10/5 one of her singles and my most absolute favorite song. This powerful first song gives you a taste of other great songs yet to come on this album. A kick ass ballad with beautiful lyrics... "I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly. I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky...make a wish, take a chance, make a change and break away...but I won't forget all the ones that I love..."Surprisingly it's co-written by Avril Lavigne.

2. Since U Been Gone - 5/5 another one of her singles that topped the charts. It's a guilty pleasure for most people. I love the music video too. It starts of slow but just wait. It's more rock than the rest of the songs on the album that surely shows off her voice in high tempos. Many can relate to this song about relationships, you will want to sing along every time you hear it... "Since you been gone I can breathe for the first time. I'm so movin on...you had your chance but you blew it, out of sight out of mind..."

3. Behind These Hazel Eyes - 5/5 Much like Since U Been Gone, a lot more guitar rock than pop. Applauds to Kelly who co-wrote this song... "I'm torn into pieces can't deny it, can't pretend just thought you were the one, broken up, deep inside but you won't get to see the tears I cry..."

4. Because of You - 6/5 Another amazing ballad like Breakaway, starts off with a piano intro...the song shows of Kelly's amazing voice strength since it's a slow ballad compared to a rock/edger song. I believe this is Kelly's most personal song. Powerful lyrics of bitterness and heartache about her childhood. Kelly co-wrote this one as well, "I will not let myself cause my heart so much misery, I will not break...my heart can't possibly break when it wasn't even whole to start with..." Look for the new video coming out soon, I heard it was based on Kelly's concept.

* Addicted - 4/5 Another song co-wrote by Kelly...starts off slow but her powerful voice lights up by the chorus. In a way this song, the music and lyrics is darker than the rest, got a sexy feel too. "It's like you're a leach sucking the life from me. It's like I can't breathe without you inside of me and I know I let you have all the power. And I realize I'm never gonna quit you over time..."

* It seems "Where Is Your Heart" goes back to her American Idol roots, slow pop song. Other songs also co-written by Kelly along with "Walk Away" and "Hear Me." "Walk Away" is a lot more poppy than the any of the songs on the album.

12. Beautiful Disasters (Live) - 4.5/5 Wow this is one amazing closer. Piano ballad, this song is an excellent choice as the closer for her sophomore album. "And if I hold on through the tears and the laughter would it be beautiful or just a beautiful disaster." Even though this song was on her debut album it did stand out from the rest on her debut album and it should belong on her sophomore album. After hearing the closer it will make you want to replay the whole album again.

The voice you hear is real, she is a true talented performer and will continue to grow and wow us for years to come. With her down to earth and girl next door personality and refusing to become a diva and let fame get to her, Kelly Clarkson is here to stay and I look forward to what else is in store for this talented singer/songwriter who is humble and always puts her fans first.

I also suggest any music downloaders out there to check out her VH1 live acoustic performances. It will surely blow you away. Her voice is just as crisp and fresh singing live as on CD that only equals natural talent.

Free Music Review: Kelly Shines in "Breakaway"
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson did not impress me at first. Maybe it was because I didn't watch the first season of American Idol- I don't know. I enjoyed the poppy "Miss Independant" and the angsty "Low" at first, but the novelty wore off after awhile. I just wasn't impressed with Kelly's efforts.

After hearing "Breakaway" on the radio, I became more of a Kelly fan. The song had good lyrics and Kelly's vocals were better than ever. But after "Breakaway" took over the top 40 radio stations and made us want to never listen to the radio again, I began to think that Kelly was wearing off. Then, "Since U Been Gone" came into the picture. I really liked this song. It was catchy and fun to bop around to. After researching a bit and finding out that Kelly was coming out with a new album, I asked for it and got it for my birthday from a friend, and my whole opinion on Kelly changed.

"Breakaway" is the new "it" CD. Every household in the world, or at least America, should own a copy of "Breakaway", as it has something to offer for all. There's fluff pop ("Breakaway", "You Found Me"), rock ("Addicted, Hear Me"), country ("Walk Away, I Hate Myself For Losing You") and I even hear a tinge of r&b in "Where Is Your Heart?".

Here are twelve reasons why you should buy this album.

1. Breakaway- Though I love this song, it is probably my least favorite on the album, due to extreme radio airplay as I have mentioned before. It's "Duff- Pop" as we like to call it, but no one said Kelly couldn't sing "Duff- Pop". It's a cute single, with very inspiring words. The music video isn't terrible either.

2. Since U Been Gone- Easily Kelly's most controversial single, which brought her straight back up onto the charts. It's also her best single, besides "Behind These Hazel Eyes". I immediately loved this song. It's much more "Kelly".

3. Behind These Hazel Eyes- Easily the best song on the album. Kelly's voice shines in this song, especially towards the end. It's very angsty, and after hearing it, I knew this album would be supurb. I wasn't a huge fan of this song at first, but now I've come to love it.

4. Because of You- This song made me cry, literally. Judging the title without hearing the song, you would probably think it is a sappy love song, with lyrics reminiscing the things that made your significant other change your heart. Instead, Kelly uses it to reminisce the divorce of her parents. It is totally unique, and totally beautiful.

5. Gone- I like this song. It's not my favorite on the CD, but I still like it. I think the evolution from the verses to the chorus is a little weak and forced. But besides that everything else is good, especially Kelly's vocals towards the end.

6. Addicted- This has been one of my favorite songs on the CD ever since it was given to me. It sounds like something Evanescence might sing. It is extremely well written and polished, and it only belongs in the arms of Kelly.

7. Where Is Your Heart?- I'll admit, I couldn't stand this song at first. I don't know why, I guess it was just too slow for me. But it became very addictive quickly. I can't bear to skip it now. Kelly's voice, once again, is amazing.

8. Walk Away- I love this song. The words are dumb, but the tune is awesome. I especially love the bridge. It's sort of country, but Kelly seems to have that down. This song is very good.

9. You Found Me- This song, like Breakaway, is "Duff-Pop". I almost expected Kelly to start belting out "Let the rain fall down". But it's not a bad song. It's kind of cute.

10. I Hate Myself For Losing You- This is sort of country- tinged, too. It has a nice chorus, and Kelly proves her range in this song. It's nice, but not my favorite.

11. Hear Me- This is sort of an Evanescence song too. It has a nice chorus and edge, but I like Addicted better. The words are great though, about trying to get through to the world.

12. Beautiful Disaster Live- This is perfection. Kelly's voice sounds amazing live. It's one of the best vocal preformances I've ever heard. The piano is amazing too. Whoever wrote it has talent.
