Free Music Review: Breakaway - A Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson has outdone herself with Breakaway. After her first album I was pleased but I still wanted more. I knew that there was more to Clarkson than "Thankful". This album has more of a theme and is overall deeper and significantly darker. As a result the songs seem to have more meaning and substance. So here's my track review:

1. Breakaway (10/10) - I loved this song the first time I heard it on AOL music. I think everyone can relate to this song, and unlike most pop songs this song never gets old to me. I always find myself singing along to this on the radio. Great message behind it and just overall a great song.

2. Since U Been Gone (10/10) - Again, like Breakaway this song still hasn't gotten old after clearly being overplayed by radio. With its unforgetable melody and catchy guitars, this proves to be one of Kelly's best songs ever recorded; also showing a different "rockier" side of her.

3. Behind These Hazel Eyes (10/10) - Honestly, this song is really similar sounding to Since U Been Gone, yet this isn't a bad thing. It means that the album is consistent, as it is full of great, catchy pop/rock songs. Kelly also uses her lower register here and it sounds great.

4. Because of You (10/10) - Such a sad but beautiful song. I think a lot of people can relate to it in someway; regardless of whether or not it actually matches the exact description the song gives. Sung beautifully and really climaxes well. You won't be disappointed by this one.

5. Gone (9/10) - It pains me to give this song a 9, but it's kind of repetative to the point where I find myself occasionally skipping over this song. At least the verses. The chorus is one of the catchiest on the album, and one of the best pop choruses out there. Really uplifiting as well.

6. Addicted (10/10) - Another really sad song, deeper lyrics than we're used to from Kelly. The background vocals sound amazing, and I find myself listening to them as intently as I do the melody. Everything about this song is perfect, even if it is a sad song.

7. Where Is Your Heart (7/10) - Not a big fan of this song. I don't think it fits in too well with the album and the song bores me. However one misstep doesn't kill an album, I simply skip over this song.

8. Walk Away (10/10) - Similar to Gone, yet I found that I haven't gotten sick of this song. Overall a fun song, not really deep in meaning or anything, but just a fun song to sing along and drive to. Typical good pop song.

9. You Found Me (10/10) - This song is pretty unique, and yet it isn't. It starts out sounding like it's gonna be a sad song, but it isn't. This song takes a step above the typical rock/pop of today. Everything works in this song, the guitars sound great, as does Ms. Clarkson.

10. I Hate Myself For Losing You (8/10) - Not the catchiest song, I suppose it has some more lyrical value. I don't think the melody goes too well with the song, nor does Kelly's voice. Nothing really stands out in this song that makes me say "wow, this is a great song".

11. Hear Me (10/10) - Another great, sad song. Escalates well and another song you can relate to. Simply a great, aggressive song. I kind of think it's a teenager's anthem lol. But it's still dark and well put together.

12. Beautiful Disaster (Live) (10/10) - At first I had no idea why they put a live version on this cd. I knew that she performed a slow version of this live, but I didn't think it was going to fit as well into the album as it does. This version gives the song new life and a completely different meaning. This one seems to present more of the theme of the original that was lost in the original's hooky guitar beats. Great way to close the album.

Clarkson really delivers on this album. I anticipated this album and bought it the day it came out, yet I didn't expect such a great outcome. I knew she said it was gonna be more rock, and it really is, and it suits her much better. The darker, edgier, more adult songs are much better than the old songs simply chosen to show off her range and appease her young fans. This one's for all, and I highly recommend this album to anyone.

Free Music Review: Kelly Clarkson, the REAL American Idol
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson wasn't my favorite on American Idol, but after her CDs she is definately the only one that keeps me watching the show and hoping they'll find another Idol as good as her.

Thankful wasn't exactly my favorite album. I enjoyed "Miss Independent", "You Thought Wrong", and a few other songs, but it wasn't one of those CDs I could just pop in and listen to straight through. I found it a little to jazzy, and agreed with the local radio station that she carried a "Disney Voice" with this album. However, I loved her voice and knew she could be great with a little more guidance from her execs, so I kept an eye out for her sophomore album.

"Breakaway" slowly grew on me. The song bothered me at first, and then I loved it. Unfortunately, it's extremely overplayed on our local radio station, and easily became one of my least favorite songs. However, I heard "Since U Been Gone" and fell in love with her voice all over again. I begged my mom to drive me to the store and get her CD the day it came out, and it has been playing over and over again in my CD Player ever since. Her new album is edgier and shows more of her personality and vocal talent than Thankful did.

1)Breakaway : Like I said, not a favorite because I've heard it so much, but it isn't too shabby.
2) Since U Been Gone : One of my favorite songs on the CD. Her attitude and charisma really comes out in this one and I thoroughly enjoy it.
3) Behind These Hazel Eyes : My absolute favorite song in the world. The lyrics are very meaningful to me ("Seeing you it kills me now / No I don't cry on the outside anymore") It's one of those songs I'll be listening to on repeat in 30 more years. :P
4) Because of You : One of the few ballads on this CD (thankfully). At first I didn't like it but it grew on me. It's a beautiful song.
5) Gone : Great song, I hope it's her next single.
6) Addicted : Amazing song-very catchy and good for when you're in a bad mood. :P Ben Moody co-wrote this one so of course it's awesome.
7) Where is Your Heart? : Not a favorite. I really don't care for this one but I can stand it. It isn't HORRIBLE.
8) Walk Away : The lyrics are extremely stupid. It's kind of sad. XD But she does a good job with it none the less.
9) You Found Me : This is a great feel good song for anyone who has a significant other. This one even had my mom singing along.
10) I Hate Myself for Losing You : Good song, especially for those days you really could use some insight on yourself. Little bit edgy, and catchy. :)
11) Hear Me : Another personal favorite. Probably the edgiest on the whole CD, with the exception of "Addicted". Great song.
12) Beautiful Disaster (Live) : Wasn't a big fan of this song in the first place...but she does well live. Definately shows herself superior to the likes of Amy Lee(who sounds like crud live) and Ashlee Simpson (who has yet to sing live).

She proves on this album that she can and will pave the way for her own musical career, and won't just be known as the "Girl who won the first American Idol". Make no mistake, she is no Ruben or Clay.

And for those of you comparing her to Ashlee, Avril, Hilary, Amy Lee and (God forbid) Lohan, maybe you should listen to their CDs again and see that the only similarity between them all is that they all are played on similar radio stations. ;) Not to mention being compared to Avril isn't as bad as Britney Spears who has failed to sing a decent note since her freshman album. Nobody's worse than a washed out pop princess who has to dress and dance provocatively just to sell a few CDs. You can say it's just how the music business is, but that's why I recommend Clarkson. I think she's a great role model for kids and the business alike.

In the end, though, Clarkson tops them all with her raw talent and amazing vocals. She is, AND always will be, THE American Idol. If you don't have her CD yet, I STRONGLY recommend you pay the small fee of 13 bucks for a good quality CD.

Free Music Review: Breakaway, Kelly!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a really good CD that I bought in my campus bookstore (mostly so I could listen to "Since U Been Gone" over and over) and found that this is one of the greatest CDs ever.

I have loved all of Kelly's singles from Thankful, but I never bought the album. Both "Breakaway" and "Since U Been Gone" helped me to buy this album and I'm so glad I did. I looked through the 1 star reviews (I get curious...hehe) and noticed some things. People mostly said "I loved her on Thankful, and I was expecting Breakaway to be exactly the same as that." ARTISTS GROW AND CHANGE THEIR STYLE, YOU STUPID PEOPLE. She's trying to find her niche. I'm glad she decided to do a rock album; this album has so many good songs on here that I'm addicted to the whole album now.

Others have compared her to Hilary, Avril, Amy Lee (though I dont see why) for doing the whole "pop rock" thing instead of being safe and doing the same pop ballads over and over again. Kelly is decidedly different and better than Hilary, Ashlee, Avril, etc. (well, maybe not Amy Lee, but whatever) and the rock persona suits her perfectly, I think. I think she should continue to explore music and do different styles to see what's good. She's awesome with pop ballads and such, as well as rock songs. Artists can be good at more than one thing.

Also, she is not "screaming" as other people have said. She's definitely singing and doing it very well. She's created an album with no filler material. All of the songs have that raw emotion that rock songs generally have and it's a really good CD for it.

Anyway, here's a song overview:
1)Breakaway- The lead single for both her album and the PD2 soundtrack, this is a song talking about Kelly's childhood life and possibly about trying something new, breaking away from her previous album. Co-written by Avril Lavigne. 9/10

2)Since U Been Gone- The addictive song that got me to buy this album. I love this song, it starts out as kinda slow and downtempo with a guitar riff but soon turns into a rocking chorus. 20/10! hehe, I'm singing to this now, it's so much fun to sing to and rock out to.

3)Behind these Hazel Eyes- Another song that's addicting and can easily get stuck in your head. Cowritten by Kelly, she does a really good job with this song. 10/10

4)Because of You- Written by Ben Moody (formerly of Evanescence), Kelly Clarkson and David Hodges, this is a pretty ballad that showcases Kelly's beautiful voice. 9/10

5)Gone- This is a great song and Kelly does an awesome job with this. Great lyrics and a good song to sing along. 10/10

6)Addicted- Written by the same people as Track 4, this song takes on a different direction than Track 4 becoming more rock and shows a darker side of Kelly, and she does a great job with this too revealing great emotion with this song. 8/10

7)Where Is Your Heart?- Another ballad that showcases Kelly's beautiful voice that was cowritten by Kelly. This is not really a fave of mine, but it's good to listen to. 8/10

8)Walk Away- This is a pretty good song and it reminds me of something Pink might have sung. Not a fave, but still good. 8/10

9)You Found Me- This is a pop-ish song that makes you feel happy and it could really be used in like any romantic movie as part of the soundtrack. It's just that kind of song. 9/10

10)I Hate Myself for Losing You- An edgy good song. 8/10

11)Hear Me- This reminds me of Evanescence with its loud rock notes and such. Cowritten by Kelly. 9/10

12)Beautiful Disaster (live)- This is a very beautiful song and Kelly shows off her great voice with this song. It's definitely one of my faves. 10/10

I would recommend this CD to anybody. It's that good. So go out and buy it. It's really good.

Free Music Review: From top to bottom, a superb release
Hit: 5 Stars

If it were up to me, I'd release each song of this disc as a single. Now obviously that will never happen, but in all honesty it is the best buy I have made in a long long time. As my title says, from top to bottom, there are hits stamped all over this album.

A great quality of Clarkson's music, as was evident in her debut release "Thankful", is the versatility. While "Breakaway" rarely strays from its obvious rock theme, it explores a magnificent range of rock - from rock/pop and upbeat thumpers ("Gone" and "Walk Away") to "instant hits" with hooks that will have you humming after one listen (current single "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes"). From downright, rip-you-to-shreds rock ("Hear Me") to sweeping rock ballads ("Because Of You", "Addicted" and "Where Is Your Heart") - this album truly Has. It. All.

Personal highlights of the disc are "Hear Me", "Gone", and "Addicted".

"Hear Me" is the Kelly Clarkson you've dreamed about (or at least I have) - from a mysterious intro and verse, the song effortlessly builds and transitions from soft piano and solid vocals into blaring and blissfully grinding guitars rivalling with the furious and frantic pace of the drumming (courtesy of famed musician Josh Freese [A Perfect Circle]), not to mention the incredible register Clarkson finds as the chorus hits, crying out in desperation "Hear me/I'm crying out/I'm ready now/Turn my world upside down/Find me".

"Gone" continues to showcase Clarkson's unique and evergrowing talent - here is a singer who was lighting up TV screens nationwide with soul classics such as "(You Make Me Feel Like) Natural Woman", "You're All I Need" and heart-breaking ballads such as "I Surrender". More than two years on, not only can she rock with the best of them, she can rock in ways you've never even imagined. The pulsing beat of guitars in "Gone" set the groundwork for some unusual and uncommon (but not unwelcome) phrasing that cruises throughout the verses before the chorus signals Clarkson's intentions - "I'm gone/To find someone to live for in this world/There's no light at the end of the tunnel tonight/Just a bridge that I gotta burn" - she's going to bust you in your most sensitive parts and without even the lightest apology. The most enrapturing feature of this song is the incredible soprano line draped over the song's climatic ending where Clarkson shows off her vocal gifts with a powerful display of control and certainly some musical courage too, peppering the listener with wailing so heavenly you might drop to your knees and start worshipping.

The final selection in this set of three is the masterpiece "Addicted". This is one of two songs that Clarkson collaborates with ex-Evanescence hitmakers David Hodges and Ben Moody, the other being another terrific showing in "Because Of You". While "Because Of You" has been setting the Kelly fan world alight, "Addicted" sings out to me because of the depth of writing, depth of musicality and incredible intensity. I could honesty spend a week analysing and expounding all my musical knowledge in exposing this song, but the best way to explore this song is through a closed set of headphones, a dark room and a cold environment. You will be moved. And listen for the bridge - it will send you for a loop.

From the mouth of an intensely passionate fan and believer in great music, buying this album is one of the most solid and worthwhile decisions you will make in your life. It will have you grinning from ear to ear. It will rip out your still-beating heart, play with it like a young child does a toy, then blast it back into your chest with the firepower of a cannon, pinning you helplessly against the wall in disbelief.

Yes, it's THAT good.

Free Music Review: Beyond Idol!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I was a little hesitant about purchasing this CD. I thought it would be filled with a lot of remakes and Mariah Carey type ballads. Glad I was wrong!! This CD is absolutely incredible, with each song filled with some fun, upbeat melodies with others on the darker side.

Here's a breakdown of each song:

1. Breakaway - This is the first single which is getting alot of radio airplay plus it was featured on the Disney Film, "Princess Diaries 2". Cowritten by Avril Lavigne and Produced by John Shanks (Michelle Branch), this fun, upbeat song about self encouragement will have you singing along for years.

2. Since U Been Gone - This is the second single that is hitting radio stations. Produced by Max Martin (Britney Spears, Nsync, Backstreet Boys), this song has a "harder" edge then the previous single. However, Top 40 radio will lick this song up like Strawberry Blow-pop.

3. Behind These Hazel Eyes - Possibly a potention single in the future, the melody of this song reminds me of the melody of Avril Lavigne's "Together" and Stacie Orrico's "There's Gotta Be More to Life". One of my favorites of this album, it was co-written by Kelly herself and Produced by Max Martin. (Britney Spears)

4. Because of You - The first ballad of the album and another possible single, this Kelly Clarkson and Ben Moody(Former Guitarist of Evanescence) written song, is beautifully song and shows the range of Kelly's vocals. With Ben Moody producing and David Campbell assisting with String Arrangements, this song is nearly perfect.

5. Gone - With John Shanks (Michelle Branch) writting and producing this track, fans of Michelle Branch will appreciate this song. With more emphasis of guitars, this song Rocks!!

6. Addicted - The second track written and produced by Ben Moody (with Kelly helping) this song is the hardest, and darkest song on the album, also my favorite. With dark lyrics about possibly being addicted to the bad relationship she was once in, this song is something that most people with ex's can relate too. This song reminds me of Evanescence "Whisper"

7. Where is Your Heart - This is another Kelly style ballad the is easy to listen too and sing a long with. It as also co-written by Kelly

8. Walk Away - This Kelly cowritten song reminds me a little bit of some country songs. Except Kelly doesn't have any type of twang and can sing much better than most country artists.

9. You Found Me - This is another John Shanks written and produced song that reminds me of a Hillary Duff song but way better. It's very mellow and fun to listen too.

10. I Hate Myself For Losing You - Ahhh... the one song on this album that I really don't care for. It's different from the rest of the songs on the album which is good but just not my favorite. However, this song does show her vocal range the best out of all the songs, unfortunately it's forgettable.

11. Hear Me - Another Kelly co-written song that also has a dark feel to it. With heavy guitar riffs and haunting lyrics, this song sounds like something that Amy Lee (Evanescence) would belt out. Another personal favorite.

12. Beautiful Disaster - This is the final song and only live track on the album. Not a personal favorite, this song seems like it's just Kelly showing off that she can sing live, which is really good. With only a piano accompaning her, this song is pretty.

This album overall flows very smoothly and is perfect for the car, doing homework, working, or sleeping too. Another thing I should mention is that Kelly does ALL the vocals including the backing vocals. Pretty Impressive!!! Buy It... You won't be disappointed.
