Free Music Review: Clarkson finally displays her true rocker side
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson's new album, "Breakaway," defies the laws of the American Idol bias and brings Clarkson into superstar territory. The album squashes Clarkson's previous album, "Thankful," and will surely prove to a skeptic industry that this rock-star is here to stay.

1. Breakaway- Meant to be a quick and perhaps disposable hit for the movie, "Princess Diaries 2," this song could have only reached it's current success with Clarkson's crystal clear vocals. While the song stands out on this cd with its fluffier pop sound, it exposes Clarkson's vocal diversity and power.

2. Since U Been Gone- Clarkson's current single, this song introduces the listener to a bit more edge than Clarkson's earlier work. With it's catchy beat and girl-anthem strength, this song will surely shoot up the charts.

3. Behind These Hazel Eyes- The first of Clarkson's 6 writing credits on the album belongs to "Behind These Hazel Eyes," a personal look at a deeper side of Clarkson. Her sorrow and pain are expressed through the lyrics portraying the hurt beyond the smile.

4. Because of You- Perhaps the strongest song on the album, Clarkson penned the song with Ben Moody and David Hodges (formerly of the band, Evanescence)to create a haunting memoir of a child wrought with the pain of a broken family. The emotion in Clarkson's voice is heartbreaking, as she fights back tears throughout this brilliant song.

5. Gone- An upbeat and catchy tune, "Gone" once again showcases Clarkson's undeniable vocal strength and ability to give a song the perfect mix of attitude and power.

6. Addicted- A second song on the album written by Clarkson, Moody and Hodges, "Addicted" is a sensual masterpiece that combines Clarkson's overlayed lead and background vocals to create a haunting experience. Clarkson's originality shines through on this song as does her almost inhuman range of vocal styles.

7. Where Is Your Heart- Once again, Clarkson allows her emotions to be ever-present on this song. Her pain is real in this song, as are her tears.

8. Walk Away- A killer track, "Walk Away" is a bit reminiscent of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" days with its mesh of rock, pop and hip-hop. It's the kind of explosive tune that you can't get out of your head, nor one that you would want to.

9. You Found Me- One of the only happy songs on the album, this song is a little bit too pop for the direction of the album. However, Clarkson's rich vocals on the verses provide quality and substance to what might be a dud for any other current female artist.

10. I Hate Myself for Losing You- A song that could have been sung by Tori Amos or Joss Stone, Clarkson again shows off the vocal flexibility that has made her famous.

11. Hear Me- One of the strongest tracks on an already stacked album, "Hear Me" delves into Clarkson's soul, giving the listener another look into her painful thoughts.

12. Beautiful Disaster (live)- Clarkson recorded a studio version of this song for her first album, yet the song reaches its full potential with the live version. What was once an overprocessed, mediocre song is now a gutwrenching and soulful expression of Clarkson's growth over the past two years.

Overall, this album is one of the best albums of the past year. Clarkson has found her niche with pop-laced rock songs and provides a phenomenal treat for the holiday season.

Hit: 5 Stars

We're all familiar with the hit television show American Idol: The Search for a Superstar. If not, it is a competitive TV show based on your ability to sing. The winner of the contest receives a one million dollar recording contract with RCA, along with all the fame and popularity. The first American Idol winner was Kelly Clarkson, a young girl from Burleson, Texas who was working as a cocktail waitress that soon became a world-known superstar. Since then, Kelly has released 2 albums, "Thankful", paying homage to the opportunity she was given, and "Breakaway", her most recent album that is titled suitably showing how she "breaks away" from the pop image displayed in her first album.

Due to the pop R&B sound that American Idol promotes in her first album, "Breakaway" brings out more of the rocker in her. Kelly says that in her new album, she's trying to helping out her younger fans through those hard summer break ups. She explains,

"I'm young and I'm a girl so there's always drama with that. I think the whole album is about relationships, and a lot of times people think certain songs are about breakups with guys. Actually, 'Because of You' is about a family and 'I Hate Myself for Losing You,' that's about a friendship. There are other things on the album that people get confused by and think are with guys. I think people automatically assume that because that's what they are going through and that's how they relate to it."

She's trying to tell us that, although she is young and is expected to sing majority of her songs on breakups isn't the case in this album. You will see a few breakup songs, but the whole album isn't based on that topic. She uses two of her songs as examples by telling us the title, along with the explanation of what she's singing about in those songs. So far, she has had four top 15 sitting chart singles, "Breakaway", "Since U Been Gone", "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and the most recent and one of my favorites, "Because Of You."

Kelly has often been compare to superstars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. And coming from a TV, show like American Idol, people were expecting some preppy little girl that'll sing a bunch of pop songs. But Kelly proved us wrong with her amazing singing talent. Although her first album may have had a little pop tone, she obviously couldn't help that, due to that was the image that Idol was trying to expose. She was extremely successful with her first album "Thankful", that she believed that her second album should be more reflecting upon herself. Although Kelly has not featured any other artist on either of her albums, we all wonder if she will have any in her future albums.

Overall, Kelly has really become really big since her appearance on American Idol. Her first album, "Thankful" really blew up on the Billboard charts; it came in first and was standing for 6 weeks. On the Billboard 200 charts, she did extremely well, peaking in at 3, but didn't reach number one as "Thankful" did. But Kelly has many more albums to come in the future, hopefully being brought to the number one position, as did her first album.

Kelly...wow...this CD is absolutely phenominal. When it was first announced on one of her fan sites that her new CD was going to be more rockish and a lot less popish, I was extremely concerned that this was going to be a flop. After hearing the song "Breakaway," I was even more concerned, as I was not a big fan of the song and was more concerned than that because she wrote the song with Avril Lavigne. The huge question of if the CD would come off as another Avril Lavigne CD disappointed me.
However, this CD has brought out every single emotion in me (and I'm a guy!). I laughed, I smiled, I thought, I cried. "Thankful" was a good CD, but "Breakaway" has absolutely surpassed all the other Idol CDs, has been one of the biggest inspriation CDs I own, and totally kicked ass! It's hard to describe how good this CD is. On American Idol, Simon told Kelly that she would "be a star," and she's proved it on this CD. Every single one of the songs could be a potential single, and the CD gets a 100% A+ 5 Stars!!!

1. Breakaway - I was not a big fan of this song, but it has a catchy background.
2. Since U Been Gone - As soon as I heard this song, I knew that Kelly would definately not disappoint me. Being her current single and gaining airplay and positive reviews, this song captures attention and demands your attention to Kelly.
3. Behind These Hazel Eyes - Much more rockish. If there's one song that you had to use to describe the sound of her CD, it would be this one. The beats, the background vocals and Kelly herself shine in this song. THIs IS RUMORED TO BE KELLY'S NEXT SINGLE!
4. Because of You - This song made me cry the first time I heard it, as I can relate to this song. The lyrics are great, the piano is great, and of course Kelly is exceptional. This is, by far, the best song on her CD.
5. Gone - Fun beat, but moshing song!
6. Addicted - This song creeped me out...it's actually kind of scary. The lyrics in this song are also great though, and guys and girls can relate to it (if you change the lyrics a little).
7. Where Is Your Heart - I was kind of concerned with this song because it was a little bit quiet and Kelly's voice sounded exhausted and weak in the chorus. However, as the song went on, it turned to a rock/pop ballad.
8. Walk Away - I own "Stripped," and was afraid that this was going to be a cover. Fortunately, one of my friends told me that this wasn't a cover and was one of the best songs on the CD, and it is.
9. You Found Me - This is probably the low point of Kelly's CD, but having said that, it's still a great song.
10. I Hate Myself for Losing You - This is a song with attitude. :-) This is a fun song to just listen to when you're pissed off.
11. Hear Me - What's weird about this song is that it's so weird it's good. There's not much else to say about the song except for that.
12. Beautiful Disaster [Live] - When I heard this song with the original backing on "Thankful," I thought it could be a good song for Kelly to release in the future. However, when I heard her sing this on the American Idol 3 finale, it made my jaw drop to the floor. This is phenominal and shows Kelly's amazing talent.

Free Music Review: Amazing!
Hit: 5 Stars

Kelly Clarkson is a rare gem in this day and age filled with cookie-cutter, manufactured, and emotionless "singers." She's in a category of her own, a class act. She is unequivocal in her expression, moving and meaningful. Her songs are potent, and often soul-searching and poignant. To put it simply, this down-to-earth girl can actually sing, and she sings with unparalleled passion, emotion, and power. Miss Clarkson knows how to use all the different nuances and tones that her voice can produce to create a breathtaking sound--she is a girl who knows how to use her God-given instrument. She doesn't sing just to sing. She tells a story through song and sets the mood through the skillful artistry of her voice. She has such versatility; she can make anything sound fabulous. Kelly has come a long way from her American Idol days; her album's genuine, rockier, and edgier. From the casual "Yeah, yeah, since you've been gone" in the album's hit of a first single and the heartbreaking anguish permeating "Where is your heart? / 'Cause I don't really feel you / Is it so hard / To give me what I need? / I want your heart to bleed / That's all I'm asking for" in the honest "Where Is Your Heart," Kelly changes her vocal technique to deliver the song emotionally and passionately. "Addicted" is as addicting as its title, a dark and meaningful song about how someone can get carried away and wake up one day in a devastating relationship, and somehow continually be drawn back into it despite of it. "Hear Me," a song about wanting to be heard, starts off timidly before launching into loud confidence, "Hear me / I'm cryin' out," effectively portraying the message of the song. She sings the "Can you hear me?" portions of the song in an almost child-like fashion, with a sincere sense of yearning. "Gone" is aggressive and angry, "Your eyes they sparkle / That's all changed into lies that drop like acid rain ... You know you did it / I'm gone." It's catchy and defiant, showing a girl unwilling to take someone back after finally moving on. "Walk Away" is a funky, "If you're not interested, don't stick around" type of song that can't help but make you hum, "Just walk away..." absentmindedly during the day. "You Found Me," one of the 'happier' songs so to speak, starts off as intended, sounding surreal and ethereal, "Is this a dream? / If it is, please don't wake me from this high / I've become comfortably numb." It's a tender song about the joy from finally finding, or rather being found, by the one person who can see one's true soul and inner self. The music behind the voice is awesome; several of the songs have beautiful piano accompaniment and ultra-fitting guitar sounds. The live version of "Beautiful Disaster," a song Kelly wanted on the album for her fans who could not hear it in person, sounds more personal, more intimate than the up-beat version on her debut album and in a way, more tragic, showing her heartfelt concern for the man of whom she speaks, despite his flaws. Essentially, from the first song to the last, 'Breakaway' is a solid sophomore album for Kelly, showing that she has a lot to offer at the table and giving a glimpse of a promising career for this one-of-kind songstress who has blossomed into a seasoned performer.

Free Music Review: Kelly Clarkson...The Best Singer Ever!!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Thankful" was an amazing cd and went platinum, but "Breakaway" is a million times better!!!!! Kelly Clarkson has the most amazing voice ever and this cd shows her versatility and her rockier side!! All the songs on the cd were wonderfully written and Kelly wrote a lot of them, so you really get to know Kelly better through this cd!

~Breakaway- Great song!! Also the theme song for "Princess Diaries 2" which is a really great movie!! This song was written by Avril Lavigne and Kellys voice fits it perfect!!

~Since U Been Gone- Definatly the party song of the year!! It most definatly is rock and whenever you hear it you just want to jump around and dance! A real energizer!!

~Behind These Hazel Eyes- This is a really good song! It is one of the more poppy songs but it is done really well!

~Because Of You- This is one of two ballads that are on the cd and it is such a beautiful song! It is rather sad but the melody and harmony are just fantastic!!!

~Gone- Another sort of pop song, but it is really catchy and fun to sing to!!

~Addicted- This is by far my favorite song on this cd. The lyrics are so amazing especially the comparisson of how love is a lot like taking drugs! The vocals are amazing and being a singer myself that means a lot! I LOVE singing to this song!! Kelly wrote this song and it is her favorite on the cd!!

~Where is Your Heart- This is the other ballad on the cd. Most of the songs are pretty upbeat and catchy but the ballads are so amazing! Kelly has such a beautiful voice and although she can sing anything GREAT she sings ballads the best and you can really feel the words and the music when you listen to her! I really like this song!

~Walk Away- This is probably (besides Since U Been Gone) the most upbeat and fun song!! I just love the rocker style and it is a great song to get up and dance to!! The vocals are also really good!!

~You Found Me- This song is between an upbeat song and a ballad. It is really good, but not one of my favorites. Dont get me wrong, I love it, just not my favorite.

~I Hate Myself For Losing You- I really like this song! Its really fun to sing to and you really get into it because most people can relate to the words. I think that the lyrics "What do you do when you look in the mirror and staring at you is why hes not here" is one of the best lyrics that I have ever heard! I mean, dont all of us feel that way after we get broken up with?

~Beautiful Disaster (Live)- I really like this song, it was one of my favorites off of "Thankful" and I think that the live rendition was just gorgeous! I had the priviledge to hear it live and it was amazing, definatly better than the original more poppy version!

As you can see, I LOVE all of the songs on this cd and each one has so many great things about it! This is one of the few cds around where every song is good! You'll never get tired of it! I bought it the first day it came out and I've probably listened to it at least 3 times everyday! Please go buy it, you wont regret it. You'll also be supporting Kelly who is one of the most talented and nicest people out there!!!
