Free Music Review: A Truly Unique and Speical Christmas Album

This year, while rummaging thorugh my local music and video stores, as I do every Holiday season, trying to find something that is unique, special and with songs I don't already have a gazillion times on other Christmas albums, I came across Kenny Roger's "The Gift". Looking over the tracks, I can already see, that this album is going to be among the CDs I will add to my holiday arsenal. Aside from one track, a montage of Standards, that wonderfully say it's Christmas time, the list is of 8 other more spiritual tracks, that only appear occasionally on other albums, usually just mixed in with the usual fare. When I got it home, I immediately put it on the changer(about 2 weeks ago), and is on it still. I Love it!
This Christmas Album is truly a gift. It puts meaning back into the season, with a touching celebration and story of the birth of Christ.Even the artwork depicts the theme.It's a joy listening to Roger's silky voice, but it doesn't stop with him. There are fabulous guest vocals and musicians that add their special touches. Wynonna adds her strong tones in the lovely duet "Mary, Did You Know?" The story continues with "A Soldier's King",adding a beautiful choir and the "Nashville String Machine" ,"Pretty Little Baby Child", with guest vocal "The Katinas","What a Wonderful Beginning",'It's the Messiah". "I Trust You",and "Sweet Little Jesus Boy", a vocal duet with GLAD. "The Chosen One Montage", is a touch of familiar and comforting sounds of the season with, "Away in the Manger", "O Holy Night","Silent Night", "The First Noel", "Joy To The World", and Rogers', "The Chosen One". Rogers sometimes speaks part of the story he is telling.
It's a real treat, that would probably be a nice listen anytime during the holiday season, but I think it begs to be listened to on Christmas Eve. The CD has an excellent sound quality. All the beautiful voices, and outstanding musicians are clear as a bell. The total time runs a little more then 45 minutes. The montage is a very nice 15:42. It has an insert with the track listings and musicians for each song.
So if Frosty, Rudolph, Santa, Chestnuts, and even the little Drummer Boy seem like they are on every other track, give this lovely story of Christmas a listen. It'll put the meaning of the Holiday right back where it belongs. And as Kenny Rogers says in the final track of this album...."'Til The Season Comes 'Round Again"
