Free Music Notes for Water & BridgesFree Music Review: I Can't Unlove This Album Hit: 5 Stars
My Mum and I love this album! It really is a great piece of work. "My Petition" is one of the stand-out tracks, about a young man who who knocks on Kenny's door and asks him to sign his petition to the president: "Make a law where Daddies don't work late/Keep Uncle Joe and those soldiers safe/Give those kids on TV all they want to eat/Put a stop to bullies on the bus/No crime, no aids, no hate, no drugs/Give a jacket and a job to people on the street".
The title track is really good as well, about an unborn child and how an abortion is all water under a bridge.
Another outstanding track is the hit "I Can't Unlove You": "I can't unthink about you/I can't unfeel your touch/I can't unsay all the words/Undo all the things/That used to mean so much/I wish I could unremember/Everything my hearts been through ... I can't unlove you."
"The Last Ten Years (Superman)" is a great, powerful track about all that's happened in the last ten years and all the people who have died - even Christopher Reeve. "We lost George Harrison, John Paul and June Carter Cash/We even lost Superman".
All in all, a remarkable album with some fine wordsmiths and songwriters. Kenny's vocals are intimate throughout.
Put simply: I can't unlove this album!
Free Music Review: Destined to be a legend....a lost generation. Hit: 5 Stars
I was born well after most of the greats- but, grew up listening to them & know them probably better than the surviving ones do at this point.
I was dismayed over reviews that this is too sappy, too story-ish or whatever- this was something only the legends did well- which made them legends.
Sure the 'new' generation may not get it- but, there was a time- when if your heart broke & you turned on the radio- it either healed or broke harder. I found these songs to be VERY insightful & wonderful on this new CD.
Each singer grows with age. They give more of themselves the older they get- I think I'd be disappointed if he chased the crowds to become a poppy-country singer. I expect Gretchen to be our newest party girl- but, NOT Kenny- he's there when the party is over & you are sitting there to listen & learn- and he does what he does best- educate you until the words ring in your head.
He's now reached the point of legendary- and, at this point- he's leaving something to remember him behind. I certainly hope this isn't the last of our memories- but, if it is- we're not disappointed for those of us that have truly followed him.
If you can't appreciate Kenny- you probably shouldn't be listening to country at all.
Free Music Review: I keep coming back to listen to this CD over and over Hit: 5 Stars
When I saw this CD promoted on CMT I wrote it off as a sad, washed-up former star trying to make a comeback (I was also put off by his apparent plastic surgery - what happened to this poor guy?). I decided to check it out anyway - listening to "I Can't Unlove You". I was immediately hooked. This is a wonderful song and Kenny's voice is simply amazing. A few of the songs are somewhat corny (as others have noted) but I found them to be a nice diversion from the usual Top 40 fare focused on sex, drugs or worse. After buying and listening to the entire CD I was very impressed - there are some great songs here that will stick with you long after you've listened to them. This is a great CD and will probably be sadly overlooked by many people because of the "reasons" I stated above. If you are as skeptical as I was give it a listen anyway - you will be pleasantly surprised.
Free Music Review: Well done!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I never write reviews, but this album compelled me to. I too grew up with Kenny Rogers. Listening to his music is like snuggling with an old and familiar blanket; it totally puts my spirit to ease. When I heard his new song "I can't unlove you", I was intrigued. I rarely buy a CD on the basis of knowing one song. For him though, I was willing to risk it. And it was money well spent!
His voice and style of singing, brings each song/story to a vivid image. When I heard the "The Last Ten Years", the hair on my neck and arms literally stood up. In my opinion, this album has not gotten the publicity it should have. This saddens me, as not all of us just want to listen to the younger/prettier artists. This man is a legend and this album is a work of art.
Free Music Review: Great cd poor handling and shipping Hit: 5 Stars
The cd is fantanstic, I ordered it as a gift, but as usual lately the cd case is shattered, I tryed several ways to let amazon understand this but no way to send a complaint, one way I tried was thru a return item and it said it had to be under 200 words, well I made it very short but message always came back,,I finally got it down to 30 words and..... too long..they have some kinda gorillas working there I believe and really don't care.,. I buy on line for convenence, but I believe this will end if amazon donsen't care about handling. The outside of the package's I mention were very clean and no marks to endicate inside damage's.....the paper work had been jammed in by the case, with the EXTREME high price of cd's these days there is no excuse for this.
