Kenny Vance has spent the last 40 years "Looking For An Echo", well he's found it in his elegant masterpiece, "Lovers Island. Aptly named, "Mr Goosebumps", when he hits those high notes, with that cashmere voice, we are all transported to "Lovers Island," we are not 60, we are 16 and in love for the first time.
Kenny's voice `demands' that we listen to the lyrics of these beautiful songs, most of which were written over 40 years ago, in a time when unaccompanied vocal group harmonies and a strong lead singer made women swoon. In the classic accapella bonus track, "Diamonds and Pearls", we are reminded of how we have all fallen in and out of love to these strains, but the magic of this album is, that it could happen again at any time, this is the true essence of romance and that is what Kenny's voice gives us, reminding us of the possibility of romantic love.
This CD really transcends the idiom; it is modern yet totally pure, not imitating, but a loving tribute. Close your eyes and a take a short vacation. From the first lapping of waves on the title track, "Lovers Island" we are suspended in time, no worries, no bills and no wrinkles. Each tune blends seamlessly into the next almost like a concept album, all a love affair to this music, each and every one a work of art. A painting.
"Angel Baby" could have been written today and "What Are You Doing New Years?" is an instant classic. I think my favorite is "To Be Loved".
