Free Music Notes for 10 Days Out (Blues from the Backroads)/ (CD/DVD)Free Music Review: Great and Good Blues Hit: 5 Stars
Concept That for me is unique actually. Kenny Wayne made a trip of 10 days in the US to meet and play with his idols (B. B. King, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, Henry Townsend, Honeyboy Edwards, Cootie Stark, Neal Pattman, and Etta Baker, Jerry "Boogie" McCain, Buddy Flett, Bryan Lee, John Dee Holeman, The Howlin' Wolf Band and thee Muddy Waters Band ).
This new release is a combo of CD/DVD. The CD is the soundtrack of the DVD Documentary. We found some compositions of the meeting bluesmen and for one time the CD is full !! 80 Minutes of pure good blues. There is a good mix between Acoustic and electric.
The DVD is very good but it's a documentary and not a DVD Live, Of course we can see some part of the performance but necessary complete except for the last day who was a Live show on a church with the Members of the Howling Wolf band and after with the members of the Muddy Water Band.
Partial proceeds of this project are being donated to Music Maker Relief Foundation

Free Music Review: What is left to say? Hit: 5 Stars
I initially wasn't going to add anything to this heavily reviewed item except to note that there is a reason this project generated so much buzz. Now that many of the artists featured are deceased, it reinforces how valuable the effort was and how noble the intent. I bought this package along with "Live On", and listened to that one first. Wasn't really enthused about it, decided to not review it. Then I watched "10 Days Out" and have had the CD in my truck ever since. Make sure to watch the Extras on the DVD as well, to catch Kenny and Buddy Flett light off a smokin' version of Flett's "Dance For Me Girl". Also - as an aside, I am getting to see BB later this month at age 82. If it wasn't for this DVD, I really wouldn't have appreciated how much this is an opportunity that must not be missed. It isn't very often that an artist puts something out that leaves you feeling grateful. Thanks to all involved.
Free Music Review: One of the finest blues albums to come out in some time Hit: 5 Stars
10 Days Out: Blues From The Backroads is one of the finest Blues albums to come out in some time. Anyone listening to the album also needs to view the DVD, which puts the entire project into perspective.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd spent ten days on the road, sought out and recorded songs with some of the greatest, down-home legends in contemporary Blues music. Many of the songs are absolutely pure in their authenticity. Ultimately, the album also becomes a historical documentary, as some of those who recorded with Kenny Wayne did so for the last time, and have since passed away.
The CD and DVD are a phenomenal project and a worthy testimony to how treasured the heritage of the Blues is in our American culture. If you like the Blues, this CD and DVD are well worth the investment. Hats off to Kenny Wayne Shepherd and everyone who participated in this important Blues album.
Free Music Review: Completely Blown Away Hit: 5 Stars
WOW!
I did NOT see this coming! Kenny Wayne Shepherd has put together an absolute blues masterpiece! Track after track sees Shepherd playing with the greats and lesser knowns of the blues, from the backwoods to the blues club, acoustic and electric.
But the guest star album has been done to death, so what makes this one different? Well, it's tough to put your finger on, that's for sure. It could be that the songs aren't Kenny Wayne Shepherd, featuring another blues artist, but another blues artist, featuring Shepherd. It allows for each song to have a distinctive flair of its own, for each of these seasoned blues singers and guitarists to really lend their own styles to the music. This creates an album where the songs are played with a lot of soul, energy, and emotion, and it's truly a pleasure to hear such varied voices in one album.
Amazing!
Free Music Review: Blues Kid Makes Good Hit: 5 Stars
I've always had a problem with Kenny Wayne. He was a talented, good looking young guitar player helped along by his manager/promoter Dad and he doesn't sing. The myth is true, "you have to pay your dues to play the blues". That's why the older guys are the best. They've lived through a lot of [...] in their lives. Now I don't mean technically proficient as much as that certian phrasing, tone and vibrato. It seems Kenny Wayne is trying to capture some of that magic for himself with this production. I'm glad he did because this is a very well done package. The Gatemouth segment alone is worth the price. The sound is very good considering the various environments. My utmost respect for Kenny Wayne Sheperd for taking a risk in doing this. I would buy a follow up, so I hope he does one. It'll take something really special to beat this out of a grammy award.
