Free Music Review: A Great, Wonderful Album of Melodic Hard Rock

I could make this review about the lack of melody that pervades all of popular music today, especially the hard rock genre. Or I could write about how Khymera is likely the strongest melodic hard rock band of this current generation. What seemed to be a one-off project featuring Kansas vocalist Steve Walsh, has morphed into something even better. The band has built on that first project with a more fluid vocal style. The keyboards providing the grandiose landscapes, and pounding guitars elevating the mundane hooks into something truly yesterday. While at the same moment, you'll discover something fresh and forward. Maybe it's the level of vocal harmony here. Or it could be that every song is not only a winner, but pure melodic bliss. This is Survivor or Night Ranger on a really good day-all the time. This is also played with the kind of detailed production values that would make the guys in Toto or Steely Dan comfortable. Pick a song, and that's the highlight. "The Other Side" or "The Greatest Wonder" with hooks big enough to gaff a Tuna. Not one moment on this collection is wasted. Your ears will smile with listening glee. And your brain will recall a time when all music was made to be remembered. This album should be given 6 stars. There is nothing on the market today, especially here in America, that comes close to Khymera.
