Free Music Review: best since Tapehead
Hit: 5 Stars

Really excellent effort by the boys and their producer. Tight, big, round, booming sounds, and well-written and arranged songs. This one improves the more you listen, and mind you - it sounds great on the first listen. In my book, this is plainly better than Ogre Tones - better in every way. The latter-day King's X are more rowdy-hard-rock-anthem-meisters than noodling progsters, but their musical intelligence is everywhere on display. My fellow fans - DO NOT miss this one. Go tell somebody!

"Julia" is to my ears the best Jerry track ever, and introduces a little of that old Beatles-esque sound, which on the whole is downplayed on this album. Also downplayed are Ty's solos, but the guitar work is everywhere so creative and well-crafted, that one can't complain. I also have to say, this album has a sense of fun that has sometimes been missing in King's X albums, and that it also thankfully mostly lacks the poisonous rage that (in my view) sometimes mars their writing.

Doug - those awesome, Daltry-beating screams... Didn't know you still had 'em in you!!!

Thanks, guys.

Free Music Review: The Most Underrated Band in the World
Hit: 5 Stars

XV is amazing! King's X are back to the sound that made me a fan. They seem to draw alot from their Heavy sound of the early 90's on XV. Tracks like "Blue" and "Rocket Ship" realy remind me of Dogman era sound. XV though is totally different just like every King's X album. This is what I love about these guys, they never make the same album twice. There is a sense of energy and happiness along with a darker sound than the past 2 albums. Dug's bass is very prevalent in this release and he dusted off the old 12 string in the first song "Pray". Tabor doesn't hit any solos on this album, which I have to admit bummed me out at first but the Riffs and intricate guitar work makes up for this. His riffs feature many layered guitars and a bottom heavy sound. Jerry is on point as always drumming. He never has been the "flashy" drummer but he is rock solid and throws down great beats which complement Pinnick's Bass on the album. The production is top notch! In fact I would go as far to say its the best sounding album KX has ever done. I can't wait to catch the guys on tour. GO OUT AND TELL SOMEBODY!!!

Free Music Review: The Return of American Rock Royalty
Hit: 5 Stars

First off I'm a huge King's X fan and buy everything they put out. having said that, some of their more recent offerings have been good but not great, but that is not the case with XV. This is one of the best albums I have ever heard, and I'm quite an audiophile, with over 600 cd's and days and days of music on my ipod. It's such a shame that their TOO good for commerical radio. They are one of the few bands that can evolve over time and not sound like they are changing to cash in on what's ever "hot" at the time. their is basically nothing I don't like about this album. It's spead between dUg and Ty singing and even Jerry sings a song "Julie", witch is about his girlfriend. Some of my favorite's are Love and Rockets (Hell's Screaming), Rocket Ship, I just want to live, and I don't know. and keeping with a King's X tradition their is a x-tra trac wich is them fooling around so their sense of humor is still active. In summing up I would recomend this to any one who is a fan of real rock music. Welcome back Rock Royalty... Long Live the king's(X) I would also recomend Ty's solo album "Rock Garden"

Free Music Review: Filled With Wonder!
Hit: 5 Stars

After having followed kings x long and distinguished history of self styled musical enchantments, we now listen in on XV and can now be elated to have seen these 3 men still creatively energized and writing songs that can still make us so happy they are together!!! Over the years, they have redefined themselves by exploring new musical genres, each time, adding to their legacy as a band never content to spew out more of the same musically or even to appeal to the commercial hit lists. For 20 years we can just stand and listen in amazement as these new songs give us glimpses into their thinking and feelings and lives, like musical paintings, their brushstrokes are colorful, meaningful and creatively dynamic, sometimes in subtle ways that may only be caught upon further looks and listenings. A mark of an intelligent, insightful, band of men like you and I that have had their ups and downs and yet find enjoyment and contentment in life. A treasurehouse of musical and lyrical elation! Bravo and thank you Kings X!

Free Music Review: The Guys are Back in Form
Hit: 5 Stars

With the release of XV the guys in the band have gotten their feet back under them as a cohesive unit. The process began by bringing in an outside producer for Ogre Tones. Outside producers can be a powerful creative influence, most notably George Martin with The Beatles. This creative spark continues to flow with the release of XV. While it is pretty obvious a few of the songs came out of writings came from years ago during other projects, it is also refreshing they don't let these songs languish forever in mothballs. They have never been a band to do that. BLS was the perfect, but not only, example. Each song on this album is a complete idea unlike previous efforts. Ty has said as much in recent interviews. I haven't taken the CD out of my player in 2 weeks. I don't think it will break the personal record held by Gretchen Goes To Nebraska, (3 solid months in the player being played at least 8 hours a day), but we will see. Excellent album
