It's been a while I am aware of KoL. I saw them opening The Strokes and found them interesting. Their first singles were intriguing. But with this album they have reached a summit of musical expression. Sure their sound is certainly more polished, more produced than before, sometimes dangerously sounding U2ish but this CD is simply a beauty of universal soul music. The singer has such an extraordinary soulful voice and melodies and orchestration are captivating. This is a really good CD. I was surprised b/c I have heard them described as the Skynrd Strokes. I am not really a big fan of the Strokes and living in Ohio, you hear Skynrd everytime you turn the radio on. But, this album is unique and doesn't seem packaged. This album has a lot of soul. Buy it, learn the lyrics and sing as loud as you can while in the shower.Free Music Review: Because of the NEW times....

I didnt know what to think of this album at first. Its not the music that made me like the band. Some reviewers are correct when they mention "too Bono" for them. Funny they mention Bono too, because this album has HUGE U2 influences. Not so much of their records but of their live shows...KOL toured with U2 quite a bit last year and noticed that they needed a bigger sound to fill up those larger venues. The result is "Because of the Times" This album actually sounds best when shuffled in with their older stuff...WHICH IS KEY for future concerts of Kings of Leon. I've learned to love this album now, it is a sign of a band maturing.Free Music Review: Because of the Timing

Don't wait for good luck to happen. You must create your own luck. And that is what The Kings have done with "Because of the Times". They have forced the planets to align. `Aha Shake Heartbreak" broke ground in establishing their innovative sound in the audience's ear. "Because of the Times" builds off that mass introduction with the impact of a steroid blasted home run.
"Because of the Times" leaves the listener itching to log on and find out tour dates. While the Kings' previous albums campaigned their sound through the muck of new Indie bands, "Because of the Times" takes that sound and applies it toward themes that range from reggae chill pills to raw rockin knuckles to the face.
You'll leave this album with nothing left behind. You will have head banged, raised lyrically impressed eyebrows, cooled off in the middle of a melancholy work commute, and you will have discovered an album that foreshadows the success of a band that has graduated from Indie charm to major label staying power. A success that is not reflective of the times but a beacon of a band that has risen to a new level and clicking on all cylinders. All by advancing, not betraying, the sound that got them there.

this album is amazing. Kings of Leon is a trully genius band, and this new album is no exception. it's been stuck in my cd player for weeks, and it's jamming to it is probably the only reason I make it through work every day. don't pass it up.
