Free Music Review: Bands change, GET OVER IT

If the Beatles had written 100 more songs like "I want to hold your hand" would they be as remembered and loved as they are today? NO. Face it, a band with any writing and/or musical talent is NOT going to write the same song over and over and over (unless you're including many of the to-remain-unnamed rock bands of today).
I, too, like another reviewer, have loved KOL since the first cd came out, have seen (and met) them numerous times. But the difference is that I appreciate the change since then. I think every album they've put out since the beginning has been a progression, and I've loved it all. Personally this is my favorite cd since the first. No it doesn't have the same sound, but then again, none of the albums have been entirely co-written since the first album, if that says anything.
Sure it's a bit slower, and different, but all in all these are some beautifully written songs. I've been listening to nothing but this cd for the last week. It takes more than just one listen to fully appreciate it, but if you can listen with an open mind not expecting a Youth and Young Manhood pt. 2, then you're sure to love it as much as I do.

Kings Of Leon-Only By The Night ****1/2
Only By The Night is the closest to a picture perfect album as it has got in 2008. Melodic and true; polished but with grit, in other words fantastic.
This group of family members have despite what some may think, reached a high of their career surpassing all their previous efforts. Vocalist Caleb sings with a gritty linear voice with just the right amount of smooth to please everyone within listening distance. The subtle musicianship compliments his vocals nearly perfectly.
'Closer' opens it and really encompasses everything the album is going to do in the one song. 'Crawl' is the hardest and deserved second single. 'Be Somebody' and 'Manhattan' have both been done esthetically but Kings Of Leon give it a new twist and do it very well. 'I Want You' breaks hearts while the closer 'Cold Desert' evokes every other emotion known to man. It is however the albums lead single 'Sex On Fire' that shows the power of the band both lyrically and performance wise.
Only By The Night is a fantastic record and among the very best of 2008.

"Only By the Night" is a real breakthrough for a band that was already great. I'm not going to write a song-by-song review like a lot of other people do, but one thing I will say is that a lot of the best songs on this album are not the songs you've heard on the radio. While "Crawl", "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" are all great tracks, two of my favorites will probably never come out as singles: "Be Somebody" and "Frontier City" (bonus track). I like what one other reviewer said about this music having so much atmosphere. There's just something about this band -- nobody really sounds like they do. I never get tired of listening to them, and there seems to be a song that fits whatever mood I am in. There are plenty of good tracks to choose from on this album.
It's sad that a lot of less talented artists get all the attention from the music press in the U.S. while a great band like KOL has to go to the UK to be successful. It's weird to think that one of the best bands in America is hardly known in its home country. If you're not familiar with Kings of Leon, this is a good album to get started.
Free Music Review: "A Well Put Together Rock Album!"

This is an excellently well put together rock album by the talented rock band Kings Of Leon, titled "Only By The Night". This is how a well molded rock album should be or sound. The CD opens with a great track "Closer" : great melody & clear great vocals. Other great tracks include "Crawl" (great guitars, vocals & melody), "Sex On Fire" (great rhythm guitar & great melody. This song won a grammy for the band), "Use Somebody", "Revelry" (great 'al cappella' intro, great drum/guitar combination & vocals built-up beautifully to an interesting crescendo), "17", "I Want You" (song rather starts okay, gradually creating a great chorus, vocals & guitar sound), "Be Somebody" (great drumkit sound & great vocals/chorus/guitars) & "Cold Desert" (laid-back track with great vocals). Solid tracks/gems include "Manhattan" (a fantastic rhythm guitar & melody) & "Notion" (a beautiful keyboard intro, wonderful guitars & melody. This is my favourite track from this great CD). On overall, this CD has great (music, guitars, chorus & melody), very well produced, a highly recommended listening!Free Music Review: Kings of Leon - My New Favorite Rock Band!

Okay, so I'll admit I'm new to the Kings of Leon fan-dom. In fact, I'd never even heard of them until their recent appearance on Saturday Night Live. But, I was so impressed with their performances that I purchased their latest release "Only By The Night." And I was blown away!!!
This disc is perfection, from start to finish -- not a bad song to be found. I've listened to clips of some of their earlier stuff, and I like their latest release sooo much better. Now, for you Kings of Leon purists, you'll say that I'm a johnny-come-lately who doesn't really understand the origins of this band and the sound they were putting out. You'll say they've lost their edge and gone commercial. But I say that for pure listenability, "Only by The Night" scores a 10.
For those of you, like me, who had never heard of this band, give this disc a spin -- you won't be sorry. And for the others of you who've been with Kings of Leon from the beginning, I encourage you to give it another listen. You just might find that it grows on you. :)
