Free Music Notes for Only by the NightFree Music Review: Best so far........ Hit: 5 Stars
I have 3 of their previous releases and this one is by far my favorite. Their sound has shifted a little, but I believe this is for the better. Some of the distortion and background sounds are reminiscent of sounds I remember from old Genesis or Radiohead-esque, with a grunge rock twist. You can take that remark as you wish, but you should give the album a chance. You can definitely understand the lead singer's lyrics, where in past releases you played the "Guess what he's saying" game with your friends.
I hope Kings of Leon continue in this direction, it is wonderful. I can't stop listening to it.
Free Music Review: That kitty loves pain Hit: 5 Stars
Iv been a KOL fan for a while now but as soon as i put this album on it just struck a nerve and i haven't been able to stop listening. Its a more sedate album than their previous, but to me it seems much more sincere. Id recommend not only listening to the album but going on the kol website and watching the home videos, really adds another level to the recording. I know alot of reviewers are putting it down but in my opinion its no weaker, just different. If you only like bands that put out the same exact album over and over again with different titles this one is not for you.
Free Music Review: Listen without prejudice Hit: 5 Stars
Many "true" fans of a band are listening for something when they listen to a new album for the first time. And if they don't hear what they expect, the band has taken a step back or sold out. I urge everyone to listen without prejudice when listening to any new CD.
That being said, this is a great Rock and Roll album. If you're unfamiliar with the band and love Rock and Roll then I highly recommend this album and Kings of Leon in general. They are refreshing. They make rock music that makes me happy. Novel concept. Please keep going guys.
Free Music Review: Great Album, Great Band Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent album. The highlights for me include "sex on fire", "manhattan", "revelry", and "notion". Caleb's vocals have never sounded better, and the rest of the band is outstanding here, especially the bassist. Sure they may have "sold out", but with melodies as good as are on display here, who cares? I'm not sure this is their best album though, their previous album "because of the times" is an absolute classic, but nevertheless I recommend any fan of rock music to buy this and you won't be disappointed. I can promise you that.
Free Music Review: Stellar Hit: 5 Stars
I haven't been so enthusiastic about a band since high school (about half a life time ago). This is truly one of the best "albums" to come out in a long, long, time. Don't you remember the days before singles when the flow of an album told a story or gave you a feeling?, that's what you get in listening to KOL "only by the night". I can't recall the last time I bought a disc and listened to it exclusively for days. Did I mention that I like it? The lyrics are well thought out and intelligent. A must have for any real music enthusiast.
