I been waiting a while to say a few words about this amazing band and album. I own all their cds but Only by the night is their best. Maybe it's the wonderful songwriting or the soulful vocals but I have been hooked on this band for some time now and the CD just gets better with every listen. I won't go in too deep about the songs other than to say this album is great from start to finish. Favorite track would have to be Cold in the Desert, such a brilliant song in every way. Just buy it you won't be disapointed.

I've listened to KOL since their first album, and every release has something different to offer. Only by the Night is probably the best I've heard from these guys - yes, it is a step away from the raw southern punk rock they've turned out in the past, but all of the most important elements that define the band are still there. Like the Chili Peppers, they are developing and refining their sound from raucous beginings into polished melodic rock. Radio said this CD was great. Bought it just on that and every song rocked me. Start to finish this band did a great job as I liked every song which is surprising because I can't say that about many of them out there now. I played it as background music while entertaining and others inquired as to who it was.... they too have since bought it. If you like bluesie type music then you will enjoy this album. I had heard some Kings of Leon songs on the radio and decided to get this record based on the reviews and the press they have received.
Listening to the record shows that it is all well deserved. Solid songs that are both catchy and interesting at the same time.
Too often I have bought records based on hearing a song or two and a "buzz", and the records do not stand up. This one does and I will have to go back and get some of their other CDs.

Okay, they don't sound the same way they used to. Great musicians improve and evolve. Okay, "Sex on Fire" is their biggest hit ever. That doesn't make them a sell-out. I only wish other bands would start out as strong as the Kings did, and then improve as much as they have to this effort. I was struck dumb by the quality of their music the first time I listened to this album, and I've liked it little bit more every time I listen to it. Yes, it's that good.
