Free Music Notes for The Fight of My Life AlbumFree Music Review: Well two in a round aint bad. Hit: 2 Stars
Kirk Franklin has IMHO released two great (super) albums in a row prior to "Fight of My Life". And of course he has a long history of successful, relevant, spiritual album releases.
BUT this release is a retread of ??? whatever-- I cannot even say. Even my kids laugh when these songs come on the radio. (I do not play the CD in the car anymore so the only listen is now on the radio).
Overall the album sounds pedestrian, child-ish, a rebranding of so-so secular songs done in a comedic manner. Also the ad-lib and words in between the music just does not hit home, kind of trivial and hard to relate to-- for example he talks about being real and how life knocks you down-- well that's fine we all face such troubles-- that's universal but he continues to speak on this vein without any details, specifics or manner for the listener to relate. I am not trying to get all in his business but to connect with the listener there should be a common language and reality.
Anyway this is not a bash-- I will say positively the beats are very professional and the album is not poorly produced by any measure. Just a retread, unfocused and for a leader like Kirk Franklin quite an under-achievement.
YMMV-- I sure hope so because I have no usage for the CD.
