Free Music Notes for Tropical Brainstorm

Free Music Review: Wonderful album
Hit: 5 Stars

This album will grow on you. Perhaps you've heard only "In These Shoes?" from it and are curious. Frankly, I'm generally not big on songs that are funny or meant to be funny, but that song is both really funny and so much more. No two songs on this album are alike, but they are all intelligent, catchy, well-made songs. The lyrics are by turns witty and poignant, sometimes both, always fresh. Kirsty's voice is so warm and charming. She died before I heard of her, so it was sad to know from the beginning that there would be no more music from this unique artist. This album is a great final statement.

Free Music Review: the best this year?
Hit: 5 Stars

I became a fan of her music in college, with "Electric Land Lady" and then, drifted away. Ten years later, I listen to this cd and smile when my little niece and nephew sing along, because they get the beauty and the beat of Kirsty's music. There is a tremendous sadness in her passing, but what a final cd! Other artists should hold it as a beacon guiding their work. If you don't have this in your cd player in a week, why not? It doesn't matter if her spanish is off a tiny bit on grammar, it is a wonderful cd, especially for the summertime! Enjoy.

Free Music Review: Ah, tropical breeze....
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD a year ago, listened to it for two weeks, and then for some reason completely forgot about it. Recently, I dusted it off again and I was astonished to discover how much I loved it. Kirsty was one of the most intelligent songwriters around--never came across as pretentious, and always, always entertained. The Cuban vibe really works on this album, makes me wanna order a cocktail and walk over to the beach to watch the sunset. Favorite songs: In These Shoes?, Treachery, Autumngirlsoup, Celeste, England 2 Columbia 0 and Nao Esperando.

Free Music Review: Fabulous Fun
Hit: 5 Stars

Witty lyrics, catchy tunes with a latin beat. I just love this CD. So many quotable lines, but I think my favorite is: "He said, 'Won't you walk up and down my spine?/It makes me feel strangely alive.'/I said, 'In these shoes?/I doubt you'd survive.'"

I do have to say the last 3 "bonus tracks" take away from, rather than add to the overall effect (I usually stop after "Designer Life"), but the rest of the CD is so good it still gets 5 stars.

Free Music Review: Salsa and Stillettos
Hit: 5 Stars

These mostly upbeat songs written by Kirsty MacColl make one want to put on one's high heels, turn up the volume really loud and dance around the house - all the while nodding your head 'yes' to the clever lyrics set to infectious Latin beats about shoes, men, kids, cyber-sex and football. Give it to your girlfriend and she'll think you're cool. Give it to your boyfriend and he'll think twice before behaving like the guys on this record.
