Free Music Notes for Alive! Box SetFree Music Review: Un recopilatorio mas a la coleccion... Hit: 4 Stars
Bonus Tracks: Rock 'N' Roll All Nite del Alive II (10 puntos) y el ya conocido Take It Off del Alive III (10 puntos).
Free Music Review: Great package of the Alive albums, but... Hit: 4 Stars
This is a great set from Kiss which contains the first 3 Kiss Alive albums (1975, 1977, 1993) plus an unreleased Millenium Concert from 1999 with the original re-united lineup.
Alive 1 and 2 are classic albums which are always great to listen to. You pretty much get the same versions here, though Alive 2 has an added track in "Rock and Roll All Nite". The Alive 3 included with this package has been sonically cleaned up which is great since the version that was put out in 1993 was a bit sub par. There's also a bonus track on this disc, "Take It Off".
Another reviewer mentioned 2 additional bonus tracks for the Millenium Concert sold at Best Buy. Looks like someone goofed. The Best Buy site does say that "2000 Man" and "God of Thunder" should be included according to the sticker on the packaging and their own website, but many fans are reporting that they are missing from the set. Whoops!
Anyway, the big add in for this set, The Millenium Concert from New Years Eve 1999, is a pretty cool addition to the Kiss discography, but the truth of the matter is that this has been largely re-recorded in studio, some even say up to 100% re-done. Most Kiss fans know that this is nothing new for Kiss Alive albums, but in a way it detracts from the luster of the classic lineup in a new Alive album when you think that Ace and Peter probably werent involved with the re-recorded parts.
Also, its a bit disappointing that the Alive 4: Symphony collection wasnt included. Its an official Alive album and this is an Alive Boxed Set, so on the surface it would make sense.
In any case, this is a pretty good collection for any Kiss fan, a must have for collectors. I'd recommend picking it up if you can get it for a fair price. I saw it advertised for $20 on sale and thats more than fair for this set even with the flaws. I think Alive 1 alone goes for nearly $20.
Free Music Review: Excellent package for the original Live collections, plus the Millenium concert. Hit: 4 Stars
I'll be the first to admit, yes, kiss did yet again re-release itself again...kinda the George Lukas with Star Wars of the music industry. For Die hard fans, they probably swallowed their pride and bought this because it does come with the Millenium concert CD, originally thought to be released as "alive IV", but wasn't until now. And, speaking of Alive IV, Did they forget about it? Anyway, as a moderate Kiss fan, I do Like this new package. It has the Three ALive! disc, the mellenium concert, and a nice book, and all for cheeper than buing all three of the Alive's seperately. It is a nice compliment to Their 5 cd box set. It is a good way to expand your kiss collection quickly, and have the Classic album that Made them. Now, as another person points out, the Best buy version was to have 2 Bonus tracks "2000 man" and "God of Thunder" from the mellenium concert. I bought mine at the store, sticker on the front and all...and THEY DO NOT EXIST. They are nowhere to be found on any of the discs. I am awaiting a reply to an e-mail I sent Best Buy online, and the stores have no clues. So go ahead, save the cash and buy it online here at Amazon, you'll get the same set likely cheaper. I give it 4 stars as a set, it's Classic Kiss, in one neat package. You wanted the best...you got the best, available now.
Free Music Review: Great Collection, Great Sound, But Could be Better... Hit: 4 Stars
The Sound quality of Alive I,II,III, and the Millenium show are really excellent. Alive I and II are now offered in this collection with better sound quality then originally offered on the Remasters. I also like having them on one disc which is more convenient.
The biggest complaint I have is with Universal...what a crap job of just throwing 2000 Man and God of Thunder at the end of the Millenium show. They didn't even take the time to consider where they would fit in the show. It just shows a lack of effort by somone that's for sure, and I don't really think Gene and Paul were that involved with this, but if they were, shame on them too. So, I think that really stinks. Having said that, I'm glad to finally have that show, but it is very fixed up and it's not as good as the "The Last Kiss" - which was a Pay Per View event for those who remember and are lucky enough to have snagged a boot of the whole show. But, oh well.
I would love at some point to have a live cd of all the unreleased live stuff from the 70s like is on "You Wanted the Best.." but include the Dynasty stuff, the Solo stuff, etc. That would almost be like where Alive III should have truly fallen.
Free Music Review: You all make me sick. Hit: 4 Stars
To all of you who constantly complain about the reissues and different box sets that Kiss releases, this is directed towards you. The reason for the reissues and box sets other than the all popular view of saying Paul and Gene "sold out" or are only after the money, is the fact that unlike most of the older fans who were actually around in 1976, us younger fans didnt get the chance to buy the old records. Everytime a new medium comes along expect there to be reissues of the records. Just like when VHS converted into DVDs. Were you all complaining then? You dont have to buy the reissues if you dont want to. That is your choice, just stop complaining and rehashing over old ground. If you dont have a new song to sing then shut up and get off the stage.
