Free Music Notes for Detroit Rock City: Music From The Motion PictureFree Music Review: Everclear is on the soundtrack. Hit: 5 Stars
What else do I have to say
Free Music Review: Pretty good collection, whether your a KISS fan or not Hit: 4 Stars
I'll start off by saying that I'm not a KISS fan at all, and I stand by that statement. However, I thought the movie, Detroit Rock City, was a great, hilarious film that anyone could enjoy whether they were a KISS fan or not. The same pretty much goes for this soundtrack which is more of a compilation disc of hard rock/metal from the film's era, but what sets it above being a compilation is the featured cover songs. Pantera's version of Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" is a blistering balls to the wall cover that excels above all the other covers on here. Everclear's version of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back in Town" isn't all that different from the original version but still rocks. Drain S.T.H.'s version of "20th Century Boy" is pretty good, but what disappoints me the most is Marilyn Manson's cover of AC/DC's "Highway to Hell". Nobody does cover songs better than Manson, and his industrial/goth themed take on the song isn't good at all, and the song just ends up dragging along. Other than that we get some of the popular singles from Van Halen, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Thin Lizzy, and Cheap Trick among others, plus there are two "classic" KISS songs and a closing new track from KISS to round this soundtrack out. All in all, whether your a KISS fan or not, you'll find something to like about this collection.
Free Music Review: very good soundtrack Hit: 4 Stars
The DETROIT ROCK CITY soundtrack features mostly good stuff. 3 KISS tracks, a cover of KISS's Strutter, some original recordings from the original artists of the 70's, and some covers of 70's songs. The new KISS track is great. Everclear's cover of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town" sounds very good too as well as Pantera's cover of Ted Nugent's Cat Scratch Fever. Other highlights include the original recordings of Running with the Devil from Van Halen, Iron Man from Black Sabbath, Jailbreak from Thin Lizzy, a live version of Surrender from Cheap Trick as well as others. For me, the worst downside was Marilyn Manson's horrible cover of AC DC's Highway to Hell. The song should have been left alone and AC DC's version should have been on the record. Manson turns it very techno and it is hardly recognizable to people who like the original version. Aside from that, there are a few other imperfections although not as great as the Manson song. The KISS cover sounds a little weird. The music on it is good and anybody who knows Strutter will recognize it right away. But the vocals sound strange. Songs like Little Willy and School Days don't fit in that great either but it could just be my opinion. But all in all, it is a good CD, especially for a soundtrack.
Free Music Review: Great album soundtrack, but not 5 stars Hit: 4 Stars
The reason for my title is that some of the remakes absolutely suck. Marilyn Manson's cover of "Highway To Hell" is just noise. Drain sth's cover of "20th Century Boy" blows, and The Donnas' remake of KISS' "Strutter" is pitiful. The only half-decent covers are Pantera's take on Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" & Everclear's remake of "The Boys Are Back In Town". Some of the highlights on this cd are: "Runnin' With The Devil", "Iron Man", "Surrender", "School Days", and of course, KISS' songs. And KISS tries do copy Aerosmith & have Diane Warren write a ballad for them. Warren wrote Aerosmith's HUGE hit "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" for the Armaggdeon soundtrack. Well, "Nothing Can Keep Me From You" doesn't stack up. Don't get me wrong,it's a good song, but I've had my fill of Paul Stanley ballads. But then again KISS isn't Aerosmith. (I say this being a die-hard KISS fan for 21 years;so don't think I'm bad-mouthing KISS.They're just different bands).
Free Music Review: Good, but other reviewer is wrong. Hit: 4 Stars
The soundtrack is good, but the fact that they had Marilyn Manson do Highway to hell is wrong...ack... But now onto the real issue,
"Who made this list?, September 8, 2005
Reviewer: Chongo "Chongo" (Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?) - See all my reviews
There are multiple errors on this soundtrack, because if you have ever seen the movie you can tell they are all the original songs... in which case i'd like to point out the errors. Thin Lizzy not Everclear sings "The Boys Are Back In Town", Ted Nugent not Pantera sings "Cat Scratch Fever", AC/DC sings "Highway to Hell" not Marilyn Manson, and The Donnas most certainly do not sing "Strutter" the band that the movie was made after sings it.... KISS!!! I don't know who listed this soundtrack but they are pretty dumb to screw all those things up."
Okay...Chongo...You couldn't be more wrong. This list is 100% correct. Pantera's version of Cat Scratch Fever is practically Death Metal. You can't tell me that that is Ted Nugent. Get your facts straight.
