Free Music Review: Such an immense atmospheric album

What drew me to this album was a comment in a music magazine that I read that discovered the music on it as gothic/electronic/dark/scary. "Silent Shout" by The Knife is my absolute fav of 2006 I can't go a day without listening to it. My first favorite song and I believe will always be my preferred listen is Track #6 "Marble House." The music and lyrics are both haunting and addicting to listen to take after take. The sound of two marble balls I believe in the beginning crashing into another and just the lyrics will have you wishing you wrote this song. "I cut your nails and comb your hair. I carry you down the stairs. I wanted to see right through from the other side." And the amazing chorus that follows "The moment we believe that we have never met. Another kind of love it's easy to forget. When we are all alone then we do both agree. We have a thing in common this was meant to be." Track #7 "Like A Pen" that follows is just as addicting to listen to as "Marble House" I know that the beginning part of these two songs has what seems like a little over a minute of music before the lyrics kick in but that is b/c Olof Dreijer is such an outstanding musician who regularly listens to instrumental music. I am a huge electronic music fan so I could listen to the way any of the bands I like play the keyboards/synthesizers/drum machines/low bass/etc. Not only the music will draw anyone in but Karin Dreijer-Anderssen's lyrics are out of this world. Track #2 "Neverland" "I'm singing for money it burns my hands." Even Track #7 "Like A Pen" contends "you're now my only friend I'm too heavy I'm a burden." Even Track #1 "Silent Shout" is so dark sounding and well executed. I will admit at first it took me some time to get use to the voices on some of the tracks either sounding high-pitch or deep moaning. Besides that mention this album receives my highest regards b/c it was released by a record label financed by the brother/sister duo themselves giving them the freedom to make the music they want without any boundaries. I can honestly say I cannot compare The Knife to any other artist out today, the music is so original and groundbreaking that it gives people hope that more artists are and will do that same.
