Free Music Notes for Follow the LeaderFree Music Review: KoRn's Best CD Hit: 5 Stars
After their first two much darker metallic records, KoRn made a wise decision to evolve and grow as a band, instead of beating the same formula into the ground over and over. FTL certainly has a phat tune to it, very modern-sounding and melodic, while still showing their heavy rock and lyrical vitriol have not dimished. KoRn still talk about anger, hate, pain, murderous lust, happiness, paranoia, and other raw emotions coupled with the band's very energetic, edgy, almost manic delivery. Jonathan's frantic, emotional vocals have not changed a bit and Fieldy's bass is still slappy and rapid-fire. Modern-sounding songs like "Children of the Korn", "Seed", and "B.B.K." are experimentation for the band while songs like, "Freak On a Leash" and "Dead Bodies Everywhere" harken back to Life is Peachy and the self-titled. Perhaps the best thing about their new sound is KoRn seem to have grown up a bit. On Follow the Leader especially, KoRn manage to be powerfully hostile while still giving their music an element of pure fun. I first got into KoRn after seeing the video for "Freak on a Leash" and later on watching the South park episode where they played, "Falling Away from Me". For those of you you are new to KoRn, this is the perfect place to start.
Free Music Review: Great album, the true birth of Nu Metal, but its better Hit: 5 Stars
Let's face it. Follow the Leader was what made Korn utterly famous. But it also lost some Korn fans too, and for good reason. Don't get me wrong, I thought Follow the Leader was their best album until I heard harder metal bands like Slipknot and learned how nothing in their music was artificial, they made ALL of it. Follow the Leader is an excellent album, and possibly their best overall, and was my favorite for a while, but then I lost appreciation for it since a lot of it is just sound affects. It's just as heavy as their other albums, and their music is possibly the best of any album they've made. Every song is great, which is hard to do when it comes to this kind of "metal." This is a MUST HAVE for any Korn lover. My complaining about some of the music being effects is not meaningful at all because the music is still great, effects or not. So if you like Korn, you MUST get this album. From the start to the end is great. BUY IT

Free Music Review: Korn's Boldest Album Hit: 5 Stars
Sure korn was/is one of the fore-bears of nu-metal, but they didnt always suck. Their new stuff is just plain crap. Im sorry but it is. However, their third cd, is one of the best cds put our during the nineties(Some people may say that their self-titled debut is better, but its rather like their newer stuff, boring, and unadventurous). ON Follow the leader, The band plays very tightly, and is more sonically daring then they've been up to that point. And that is a good thing. Much like Tom Morello and Y tim K of Rage Against the Machine, Munky, Head and Fieldy cajole some amazing texutres out of their instruments. This is the band's strong point. The dual effected guitar interplay is downright stunning ("freak on a leash," "B.B.K," and the album openner "It's on!" just to name a few,"). When the guitars sync up, for an even more powerful metal lock-step, its just orgasmic ("Seed," and "all in the family") Two of the disc's three collaborations show a very different side of korn. "Children of the korn" features Ice Cube and it demonstrates that the band could be a good backing band for a rapper. "Cameltoesis" features Tre from Pharcyde. This is a very moody, and dark tinged hip-hop anti-ballad. Brilliant
Free Music Review: An Angry Dark Album That I Love Hit: 5 Stars
It's different from their rest, but that's what I love. I hate to sound like a broken record, but if you want their best, their first two are the way to go. That's not to say this isn't any good, the singles, "Dead Bodies Everywhere", "It's On!", "B.B.K." and "Reclaim My Place" are among KoRn's best. Angst is something Jonathon Davis knows as if it's imprinted in his D.N.A. makeup, his screams are legit, the lyrics are legit, and you feel his every word. The whole band can jam greatly, they may have get some criticism now, but in a couple of years KoRn will have a respected place in rock. Remember grunge wasn't welcomed with open arms by some at first. But back to what I was saying, this (along with the other KoRn albums) is an emotional trip. I absolutely love that. It's good to hear a band that actually has something to say. All five musicians are strong and you can tell they were meant to be together. As far as 1998 goes, this was one of the best records to come out. A very solid record, if you haven't bought anything like KoRn before, and want to try something new, definately check this out. I love this band, I even met them at a signing here in southern California and they were all really nice, I think Fieldy was drunk.
