Free Music Notes for Take a Look in the Mirror (Bonus Dvd) (Dig)Free Music Review: The aKolyte Hit: 5 Stars
Munky, Fieldy, Jonathan, Head, David. They are back, and this time, they bring with them, the good old days. The long awaited follow-up to "Untouchables"is here. "Take a Look in the Mirror" blends their old school style with their Nu-Wave experience. Old Korn fans will remember the days of "Life is Peachy" while newcomers to their music will notice a mixture of deep bass riffs, haunting vocals, and an over all brutal vibe to them. Their controversal approach to reinventing the metal/hard rock industry was widely accepted and this release is their biggest to date. Warning though, their language is uncensored and they constantly use the "F" word throughout this cd. The rundown for this cd is simple:1.) Right Now- I'm sure you've heard this song on the radio, but in case you havn't, this is their Nu-Style they were trying to incooperate. Not the best on the cd, but good, this is a blend of the "Untouchables" and "Life is Peachy" approach. Good guitar and bass elements are present for this entire song. 8/10 2.) Break Some Off- A little too new school for me. Although I do like the bass of this song, it simply doesn't flow with the rest of the album and you constantly find Jonathan yelling, not singing. 6/10 3.) Counting on Me- Killer intro, and a more melodic sound than rock, but the blending of so makes this song pretty good. The chorus surprised me in this song, but it is a good surprise, as it is harder than the rest of the verses. 8/10 4.) Another spectacular intro piece, with flowing guitar rhythems breaking in the background, finalized with raging, yet emotional, vocals. This piece is slow compared to the rest, but is one of the best on the cd, and should not be taken lightly. 9/10 5.) Deep Inside- Harmonic sounds blend well with the leading vocals and the verses fuel the rest of the song, as the chorus isn't something to be overjoyed with. Again, somewhat slow compared to their previous releases. 7/10 6.) Did My Time- The driving force in this song is the guitars in the intro, and their presence throughout the song. This is the harder, more widely know Korn back in action, with the echo effect ripping off in the chorus and the heavy beat enclosed. 9/10 7.) Everything I've Known- Very smooth take, not choppy or broken. The song has a consistant beat to it, reinforced with the savage lyrics. Top notch new Korn has made it's presence known and enjoyed in this song. 9/10 8.) Play Me- A little wierd that NAS is in this song, but it is still good. Blending the hard beats with a unique splash of rap to carry it on. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, considering that these combo of the 2 is actually quite devastating. Good mix. 8/10 9.) Alive- Wow, simply amazing. I felt like Jon was singing this song for me, this song is full of raw emotion, inspiration and power. You can actually hear the pain in his voice as they remaster their technique. Very uplifting for anyone. I can't describe it anymore. 10/10 10.) Let's Do This Now- Bagpipes cue the intro! (Yes the pipes are back!) This song is actually straight foreward. Not to interesting, not to flowing, not to Kornish, not their best. Only thing that makes the song bearable is the guitars and drums. That's about it. 6/10 11.) I'm Done- They again deliver that hardcore, in-your-face sound they are known for. Cue the aggressive guitars, ready the fierce bass, and power the vocals. Very smooth song, great presence of mind and very good sounds. No complaints here. 10/10 12.) Ya'll Want a Single- A hilarious, and heavy state of mind throughout the song. Nice catchy chorus with guitars paving the road ahead. Jon's voice makes the whole song's atmosphere very energetic. 10/10 13.) Very guitar focused song, with a mysterious vibe to it. It's actually probly one of the more emotional driven songs on the album. The background bass sets a somber mood, and the drums create a "hopeless" feel to the rest of the song. Great song, they poured their soul in it. 9/10 Album as a whole: 9/10 Great job of putting this together guys, produced masterfully, and performed with a smile and a tear. The old saying holds true, "That which is the best, is that which you put your sweat and blood into." Keep sweating and keep bleeding! KORN IS KING!
Free Music Review: CLOSEST THEY'VE GOT TO THEIR SELF-TITLED DAYS Hit: 5 Stars
First let me start off by saying thishs sisi goodgdo (that's because my jaw is on the floor). I meant to say this album is good. I have always been a fan of korn and still to this day do not understand some of their fans. Everyone always wants another self-titled. But there's one problem with that you only get to debut once. But you know what happens all the time re-invention of the band. And this is a beautiful transformation for KORN I like how they kinda tease around the idea of being death metal. I get that vibe every time he starts screaming. And contrary to popular belief the track with NAS is a decent track Nas' vocals fit this track perfectly. here is my rundown of the album track by track. I love the fact that korn traveled across the states to write this album. They drove around with a bus that has a studio on it basically.1.Right Now 7/10-very good track, if you've seen the video like I have then you know the images that come to mind when I hear this. 2.break some off 8/10-very agressive and soft which is always interesting to hear, I enjoy the background vocals when he says break some off. 3.counting on me 9/10- I love the way this track starts out and jon's vocals are creepily soothing. 4.here it comes again 8/10- I love the way this starts too with the strings being played at the very beginning, well you know what I mean. 5.deep inside 7/10- I enjoy the way this song kinda jumps around a bit you know soft, a quick deep, moderately toned, then back to soft. I like how he sings people it makes my hair stand on end. 6.did my time 6/10- this score is only because I've had the single and have listened to this too much, but hey I listened to it too much because it was good. 7.everything I've known 8/10- I like how this one reminds me of untouchables, with the electronic voice manipulation. 8.play me (featuring NAS)6/10- All I can truly say of this track is it is a lot better than I thought it would be. 9.Alive 10/10- come on it's a remake of the first song KORN ever wrote and it stays true to the demo just enough to not be disappointed. 10.let's do this now 10/10- one thing to say "BAGPIPES" you know what I mean. 11.I'm done 8/10- I enjoyed the fact that polarbear did programming on this track. It makes me long for the day they let Mindless Self Indulgence do programming on one of their songs. 12.y'all want a single 10/10- It's a message to the record company telling them to write a single I think they did it wonderfully. It's be cooler if you could say F*** on the radio on TV this song would blow up. 13.when will this end 8/10- I give it to them for their play on words. Because the song is called when will this end and is extremly repetitive. And you might think to yourself while listening to this track when will this end? hidden track- One (metallica cover) 10/10-Now Metallica sucks and this track goes to show you one thing KORN could make an entire career just covering Metallica. Because KORN makes Metallica songs sound better than if Metallica themselves played them. I see KORN surpassing Metallica's longivity which I think was past expired when they released the horrible album St. Anger. Bonus DVD: 1.korn kut-up 10/10- interesting mix of all korn's videos except for F***t. 2.Right now (mirror mix)7/10- I expected more than this it's just a lot of images from the duece DVD and some new more disturbing images. 3.The untouchables 2002 tour 10/10-I really don't like the fact that the live performance of here to stay is just the album track with crowd noises over it but the behind the scenes stuff makes up for it. in other words BUY NOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!

Free Music Review: Awesome album Hit: 5 Stars
Release Date: November 21, 2003
Label: Sony
Summary:
KoRn's latest album, which is a disappointment because of how well their previous albums were, still is a good and heavy album. The album starts with the second single, "Right Now", which is a good and heavy way to start an album. The next song, "Break Some Off", is the loudest and heaviest song on the album. "Counting On Me" and "Here It Comes Again" are good songs, that's all I can say about them, as with "Deep Inside". Continuing along, we come across the album's first single "Did My Time", which is just plain awesome! The next song, "Everything I've Known", has similar vocals to "Did My Time". They recently made a video for the song and it's cool, in my opinion. The next song, "Play Me", is the only song on the album I don't like that much, as it has a guest rapper and I hate rap. "Alive", "Let's Do This Now", and "I'm Done" are also very good songs and "Alive", along with the album's first two singles, is my favorite song on the album. The next song, "Y'all Want A Single", funny enough, IS the next single. It also is the the on the album with the most cursing, at 68 cuss words! The next song "When Will This End?" is another good song, but that's all I can say. There's a secret: Go into 9:45 in "When Will This End?" you get a bonus: A live cover of "One" by Metallica! From that song you get awesome vocals from Jonathan Davis. Bottom line: This album is just plain brilliant!

Free Music Review: Korn's Best Album (tied w/ the s/t debut)! Hit: 5 Stars
I just wanna say first off I own all the 5 (now 6) of the Korn albums and I have to say that this one is the most heavy and aggressive Korn album since the self-titled record! I was just amazed! This album combines all the elements from their past albums, but has the focus on returning to the roots. Jonathan Davis has just a great vocal range from proper singing to the demonic angst present in his death metal screams. After Untouchables (which I thought sounded different, experimental, and simply didn't live up to most people's expectations), I was beginning to doubt the band's musical direction, but on this new album I seriously think that TALITM has the potential to more than satisfy current fans as well as bring back old fans from the 'Peachy' years. Even the album cover brings back old memories of Korn when they were young and full of viterol anger and energy. So, buy the album (you won't regret it one bit) and here's my breakdown of each song:1-right now 10/10 great song for the start of the album (main riff sounds a bit like immigrant song but heavier) 2-break some off 9/10 extremely heavy, great yelling chorus 3-counting on me 10/10 the chorus is amazing, one of the best songs on the album 4-here it comes again 8/10 ok, old Korn riffs present 5-deep inside 9/10 heavy bass and guitar riffs, the eeiry laughing that was present on the first album is at the end 6-did my time 10/10 one of fav tracks 7-everything i've known-10/10 the best track on the album; just a brilliant song 8-play me 10/10 a great song; has Nas busting out lyrics, and then Jon's screaming chorus is just full of rage, you have to hear it yourself 9-alive 10/10 a great update of the old version (which was on the Korn demo and actually was used to create Need To) sounds like it can come from the 1st record 10-let's do this now 10/10 perfect for moshing, incredibly heavy and the bagpipes are back! the chorus is just bursting with hate and anger 11-i'm done 9/10 Jon has great vocals, great song 12-ya'll want a single 8/10 ok song, probably the catchiest song on the album aside from all the F#@cks in it 13-when will this end 9/10 good closing track and the live cover of "One" is great (FYI: the DVD is a great bonus that comes with the limited edition, so buy it now!)
