Free Music Review: Korn press on and release their 6th gem
Hit: 5 Stars

"Take A Look In The Mirror" is the album Korn fans have been begging for for years. As much as I personally love each one of their albums, there is quite a number of people who have been unhappy with their past few releases, wanting Korn to return to their roots, to get down and dirty once again and remind all of the lesser new metal bands how it's really supposed to be done. Well, my fellow Korn fans, this is that album. Self-produced and coming off the high that was "Untouchables," Korn start from the ground up again. Whereas the previous album took a mega 4 million dollars to produce, this was was made at a small fraction of that. Korn seem insistent on getting themselves back to square one on this album and the effort shows all the way. "Take A Look In The Mirror" borrows elements from all 5 of the bands previous releases. Tracks like 'Right Now' and 'Alive' (a remake of a 1993 demo the band wrote before they were signed) sound like they would fit in with the self-titled album, and 'Break Some Off' has that murky, creepy feeling the "Life Is Peachy" had running through it. A guest spot by Nas on the track 'Play Me' has Korn showing how rap-rock was really meant to be done. Nas's powerful and confident vocals boom over crunching guitar riffs and near-abusive drumming. This takes the band far beyond the Ice Cube collaborations they did in '98 ('Children of the Korn' & 'F--- Dying'). Jonathan's infamous bag-pipes make a brief appearance on 'Let's Do This Now,' a sound which is kind to the ears of all Korn fans. Other highlights include 'Counting On Me,' 'Did My Time' and 'Deep Inside.' With this album, Korn are hardly focused on album sales. The music on here will probably nauseate anyone not formerly or currently interested in Korn. It is truly an album made for the fans. It is genuine, powerful and stands as a classic release, whether it sells 2,000 copies or 2 million. The DVD contained with it is a nice little addition, containing a montage of Korn's videos (all 13 of them), a new, very violent video for the single 'Right Now' and a little featurette on the "Untouchables" tour from 2002. If you are or ever were a Korn fan, you're going to want to check out this album.

Free Music Review: Downright and Dirty...Korn
Hit: 5 Stars

Right now you may be thinking, "I like Korn's older music" or "They sound like all those other bands out there". If this is you, then you are in for a rude awakening. Korn's sixth album Take a Look in the Mirror dropped into stores on November 21st, four days before the original release date. A late leak of the music has turned many people's ears and started a chain reaction. The album is debuted at 19 on the Billboard chart selling 96,000 copies a week before most people knew it was unleashed. What is this all about?
Ten years of mis-education through Korn rock has brought us the new-age Korn with riffs to make you gasp for air, and lyrics to rip a pitt that hurts to look at. The band decided it was time to self-produce the album that introduces the new school and the old school Korn to form the raw slammin' rhythm you hear. The first two singles, Did My Time, and Right Now were the first to be released to the public as a taste of what was to come. By tweaking the volumes on the instruments so that each one can be heard for what it brings to the table, you can have the thrill of the live Korn show from your own speakers. In this album Fieldy's bass puts out a deep grind that is probably the most impressive addition to Take a Look in the Mirror. Vocally Jonathan Davis' brings the metal of their Korn, and Life is Peachy albums to their previous album Untouchables.
To mark their focus on reflecting on their work, Korn did 12 small venue shows not including an additional free show in New York, devoted on getting Back to the Basics. The band wrote this album for the live performance effect, and tested it on the fans over the quick tour. From my experience at the Palladium in Worcester Massachusetts, the mosh-pitt was carnage as well as the amazing performance of the band.
This album is being devoured by both avid fans and fans of Korn's older work alike. "It's just down and dirty", says singer Jonathan Davis, and that is exactly what you will hear.

Free Music Review: Could Have Been Better...Could Have Been Worse
Hit: 5 Stars

Well diehard Korn fans: This is what you were waiting for, and this is what you got. I was pretty disapointed by this album. And I certanly hope Korn hasen't sold out yet. Rumor has it that their in studio working on a new album. I saw them at Ozzfest last year, and they were great. But I'm not really interested to see them this year at Projekt Revolution. I'm gonna go to Ozzfest 2004 instead. anywhoo, here's how I'd rate this album:

Right Now - A good heavy song to start off the album. [...] up music video though. 5/5

Counting On Me - A soft, very dark song simular to somthing you'd find on Issues. 4/5

Here It Comes Again - Simular to Counting on me, just more mental. 5/5

Deep Inside - Simular to Here It Comes Again, just even more Krazy!!! 5/5

Did My Time - My favorite on the album!! I't would be a [heck] of a lot better if they didn't play it to death on the radio.
But then again, it's one of the few clean Korn songs. 6/5

Everything i've known - Munky, Head, Fieldy, and David did a good intro. Vocals simular to Did My Time. 5/5

Play Me - An almost unlistenable song on the album. Rap & Metal don't mix well. 2/5

Alive - I'd imagine a crowd moshing to this song, despite it's sort of un-heaviness. 4/5

Lets Do This Now - Nice Bagpipe intro. Gets hevier though. 4/5

I'm Done - Nice intro, and a good song. But this tone is getting a little repetitive 4.5/5

Y'll Want A Single - Funny, my second favorite on the album. 5/5

When Will It End - Good, but i'm a little sick of this tone, they sort of over-did it for this song. Korn, work a little harder next time. I don't want to lose faith in you. 3.5/5

One - I've seen this song played live at Ozzfest. It's awsome.
Though It can't compare to the Metallica Original 5/5

This was chickens*it compared to the first album. here's how I'd rate the albums

1) Korn
2) Issues
3) Follow The Leader
4) Untouchables
5) Mirror
6) Life is Peachy

Peace Out

Free Music Review: "Take a look"..at KoRn's new Album.
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, I'm going to say this once, and only once. This album is BY FAR the BEST that KoRn have put out, since the days of the self titled "KoRn" cd. If you're looking for "Untouchables" melody, beat, and rhythem, DO NOT get this.
"Take a Look in the Mirror" is a cd that proves KoRn have gone back to being the non-melodic, angry, bad-azz, band they once were during their first years.
I honestly cannot say there is really any type of melodic song on this cd other than the song "Counting on Me" which btw, is pretty good, one of my favorites infact.
But getting back on topic, yes. There's not much melody at all in this cd. Not to mention, the first 3 tracks, show that this is one ANGRY cd. The "F" word is used in the first 3 songs all together, probably more than 30 times (thats only an estimate though.) If I were to rename this cd, I'd rename it "Wake up Hate pt.2" beings this cd is pretty much all about anger, self torment, and hurting in every humanly imagineable way. The song "Right Now" proves this, with it's lyircs. You would think the lyrics are directed toward someone else, but they're not. The song is about a person whom hates himself, and the way he looks, and it bothers him. So he tries to change himself by tormenting his body in many ways, and ends up threatening himself during the song. Example: "You open your mouth again, I think I'm gonna break it. You open your mouth again, My God I cannot take it. Shut up, Shut up, Shut up or I'll F**k you up!" He's basically "Taking a look in the mirror" and screaming the song at himself while tormenting himself because he hates himself and his looks.
But enough about the song, as said, this cd is HARDCORE. NOT for the deeply touching fans of "Untouchables."
If you want KoRn's hardest, get this now!
If not, Go buy "Untouchables."

Free Music Review: Korn Back to retrack their fans
Hit: 5 Stars

first off let me just say i own and love the first 4 korn albums(dont have untouchables yet)and i can say that this album can sit among them cuz it really is just pure korn its what u expect from them and boy does it deliver with a punch. jons vocals are really good u can hear him more clearly and his screams are really demonic,u could argue that the other 4 musicians in the band revolve around the same load of riffs and bass lines but even if it does it still works here (fieldy rules). standout tracks:right now, breaks sum off,did my time, counting on me and probly one of the best tracks is play me which has guest vocals by rapper nas,the riffs are brutal and the rapping delivered in style so oveerall all korn fans need this album. p.s wats wid the new names for the guys???
