Free Music Review: Rollin' Into An Alternate Style...
Hit: 4 Stars

The Kottonmouth Kings have always performed with many different types of styles in their music, and Rollin Stoned doesn't fork off from this idea at all. The band has sounded a bit different ever since vocalist Johnny Richter replaced Saint Viscious, and they have more of a "flowing" sound to them in a way. This CD has a different sound than other KMK albums, but I was expecting such before buying it, and now you should be too.

The disc starts out with a hard rap song, "Sleepers", which talks about the whole world sleeping on KMK's music. It's a good start and gets you into their voices. Another couple of hard songs are passed, with "Full Throttle" and "4-2-0". Stopping at 6 and 7 we see the album change into more of its true hidden sound: very positive and summertime/happy music. "Positive Vibes" describes this perfectly - lots of singing (mostly Richter) and rapping over a very good and light beat. Track 8 is called "Zero Tolerance" and I love this one... It's about having no tolerance for the rules and regulations of this country. A standard anti-law Kottonmouth song. Back to the light-heartedness, "Float Away" blasts us with another memorable happy chorus about music. Skipping a few tracks, we come to track 13, "Rest Of My Life" which is simply about smoking weed for the rest of their lives. It has a catchy tune and is an overall good song. From here on, a lot of the tracks are slightly harder than average, and some notable good ones are, "Strangez Dayz", "Tangerine Sky", and "Built To Last".

Overall this CD is a very good listen. Whether you're new to the Kings or a hardened Vet, you're probably going to at least like this new style. Still the same old KMK, yet evolutionized in a way. Most of the songs are worth listening to, with little fillers or tracks to skip.

Overall Rating: 90 / 100

Free Music Review: Worse than all the rest

I thought this Kottonmouth Kings' CD was going to build on the work they did on High Society and KotK. I was wrong, thinking that this would be another electronic, hip-hop fusion disc. Very Wrong. About half of the songs have guitars (sorry, rap-rock was happening when High Society came out, and I don't like this punk-rap type). I really like the Kottonmouth Kings, but I do not like this cd. Sleepers and 4-2-0 are pretty good rap songs, though they sound more gangster than the old party-style songs (aka, paid vacation, first class, etc.)Enjoy and Pushin' limits are the next good hip-hop tracks. There are some guitars in Pushin' Limits though. The song featuring the Judge sounds a lot like Corporate Avenger...hm. Well, at least Strange Daze takes away from the Punk-metal-rap songs. Built to Last is just ok.
I found most of the songs were really mellowed out, with the reggae feel, the others were the punk-rap mixed songs. The Intros were pretty cool, with Sweet Dick Willy on that s***. There weren't many songs that are reminiscent to the older KMK style. If you Liked Positive Vibes, Sleepers, and Full Throttle (or any one of them) go and buy this disc.
3 stars overall. There was a pretty cool booklet with a little poster like in High Society-worth another star. I hope the DVD coming out at the end of this month is a lot better than this disc.
If you want the more party stuff from these guys, go get High Society (their best) or Hidden Stash 2, Kream of the Krop.

Note:I ain't a hater, but i just don't like the way they put so much different music all over this cd.I liked it when most of the songs were the hip-hop, with a few punk and mellow, reggae songs (perfect example is Royal Highness or HS2-KotK).

Free Music Review: Probably the best you can expect from these guys

If you were to only buy one Kottonmouth Kings album, this would have to be it. Altough in my opinion it has alot of filler songs(songs not meant to be great but good enough for hardcore fans). This cd best represents the group and acts like an introduction into their type of genre. Songs which are the most notable are as follows;
Sleeper- A fast-paced intro into the world of suburb-pop-punk-hip hop which this group seems to engulf itself in.

Rest of my life- A classic stoner tune in every aspect. Even if you don't smoke weed, you'll catch yourself singing along.

Strange Dayz- A great example of how KMK can get down lyrically with a hard hip-hop flavor.

Tangerine Sky- My personal favorite, call it ska, punk, or even hip-hop. Something about KMK can appeal to just about anybody.

kmk's latest has the typical contents that all the devout fans love (anarchy, smoke dope, smoke more dope). but this being the third cd with richter instead of saint, their songs are starting to get very formulaic, predictable and boring. the only thing "new" on this cd are mellow songs with less vulgarity or less... promotion like waking dream, soul surfin, and float away. positive vibes, though constant with kmk's message of peace and positivity, arguably sounds like bsb or nsync plus a guitarist. and many other loyal fans on boards on the net believe the same. i dunno what direction they are heading. some might see this cd as artistic maturity or whatever people call it, but i just think their days as an innovative, underground rap/punk outfit are history.

Free Music Review: Kottonmouth boys back at it!!

I've been a long time fan of the King's. Royal Highness is there greatest work in my opinion. But the new "Rollin' Stoned" comes real close to the perfection of that previous album. Rumor has it if they do not reach a certain number of sales of this album the will be dropped from the label. It would be a shame for a group as great as the Kottonmouth Kings to be tossed to the wayside. So support the bong smokin' alcholics. Buythis cd you won't be disapointed. Also see them live. They are on tour now and put on one hell of a show. You might even catch a glimps of the "Taxman" from Corporate Avenger on stage with them.
