Free Music Review: HORDES OF CHAOS, HORDES OF CHAOS, EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE, CHAOS!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is just simply awesome and amazing to say the least, I mean seriously what else can I say? I got Kreator's brand new album Hordes of Chaos just last month and I quickly fell in love with it. Yeah I know it's a bit too early in the year right now, but Hordes of Chaos is already one of the best metal albums of 2009, and it definately shows that Kreator are showing absolutely no signs of slowing down at all. This album is extremely catchy, addicting and extremely fast, furious and aggressive, it will just rip your face off from beginning to end. This album reminds me of a combination of the raw and aggressive Kreator of the 80's (Pleasure to Kill, Terrible Certainty, Extreme Aggression) and early 90's (Coma of Souls) and the more melodic Kreator of this decade (Enemy of God and Violent Revolution) in my mind. Hordes of Chaos has also been described as Kreator's most organic album to date, due to the fact the entire album was recorded in a live studio setting on a 4-track analog tape recorder with no overdubs. Frontman Mille Petrozza noted that this was the first time the band had recorded an album that way since their 1986 album Pleasure to Kill (which got me hooked to Kreator in the first place). Moses Schneider who produced this album had the band simply play the songs live in the studio, which gives the album a very live and personal feel to the songs. Speaking of the songs on here, every song is awesome and extremely catchy. The choruses are just catchy and energetic, and perfect to scream-along to, and the musicianship is downright excellent as well. Mille Petrozza's ranting/screaming vocals are top-notch throughout this album, he really sounds mad as a swarm of angry hornets, and this album proves exactly that. The guitar riffs are just fast, furious, aggressive yet melodic at times, and the solos are just galvinizing, fast and ripping, and of course the melodies are addicting and very affectious especially on "Hordes of Chaos", "To The Afterborn", and "Demon Prince". Ventor's drumming is just awesome and relentless with fast, thunderous beats and fills and ripping and rattling double bass kicking. Hordes of Chaos also showcases some of Ventor's fastest and most aggressive drumming yet, and it definately contributes to the overall sound and heaviness of this album.

Now, here's a look at some of the highlights.

The title track "Hordes of Chaos (A Necrologue for the Elite)" is an excellent opening track (as well as one of my favorites on here) starts off with some addicting guitar melodies before going into a full throttle thrashing onslaught of lightning fast riffing and slamming, thunderous double bass drumming. The chorus is very catchy and powerful with Mille ranting "HORDES OF CHAOS, HORDES OF CHAOS, EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE, CHAOS!!", and there's also some great wicked soloing at 3:36, and I like when Mille is screaming out "EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE, EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE" near the end as well. The next song "Warcurse" continues the full throttle onslaught with more speeding drumwork (including a cool, galloping double bass drum intro) and more blazing and frantic riffs that are so fast, that you can't help but bang your head like crazy. There's also a great, melodic guitar solo by guitarist Sami Yli Sirnio at 2:28 as well. "Amok Run" is another awesome song that starts off soft and melodic with some goth style singing from Mille, then it goes into a slow yet heavy part which then leads into a viciously fast chorus with Mille ranting "RUN! AMOK RUN!!!", and before you know it, the thrashing assault continues. Other songs on here I really enjoy include "Destroy What Destroys You" which is a more mid-paced but absolutely crushing and effective song that later garners up some speed near the end, and "Radical Resistance" which is another furious and energetic headbanger which features Mille ranting and screaming "UNITE TO FIGHT, UNITE TO FIGHT" in the chorus, and I also love that "PEOPLE FROM THE EAST, PEOPLE FROM THE WEST" line which is very addicting as well. Another one of my favorites, track eight "To The Afterborn" is highlighted by an epic headbanging mid-paced tempo with absolute stunning melodic guitarwork, busy, bone rattling double bass kicking, and a very superb, addicting melodic chorus, then around 3:16 the song picks up trail blazing speed, and later around 3:46 we have a blazing and ripping solo section which is followed by Mille's furious rant of "TO THE AFTERBORN, TO THE AFTERBORN". After taking a nice much needed break with the short instrumental "Corpses of Liberty", we're immediately taken to the final song "Demon Prince" which is an awesomely epic headbanging closer that features a nice melodic guitar intro which is later followed by a furious, all out blistering thrash onslaught of frantic, furious thrash induced riffage, and thundering double bass drumwork, and there's also a short but nice ripping solo by Mille around 1:57 that will just rip your face off. The chorus is also very fast and furious, and there's also a great melodic solo by Sami around 3:51, and we also have some more awesomely epic and melodic guitarwork near the end as well. This is definately the best song on Hordes of Chaos in my honest opinion, no questions asked.

Jeremy's song ratings:
1. Hordes of Chaos (A Necrologue for the Elite) (5:04) - 5/5
2. Warcurse (4:10) - 5/5
3. Escalation (3:24) - 5/5
4. Amok Run (4:12) - 5/5
5. Destroy What Destroys You (3:13) - 5/5
6. Radical Resistance (3:43) - 5/5
7. Absolute Misanthropy (3:37) - 5/5
8. To the Afterborn (4:53) - 5/5
9. Corpses of Liberty (0:55) - 4/5
10. Demon Prince (5:16) - 10/5 BEST SONG ON HERE!!

Ever since I first listened to Hordes of Chaos, it has won me over in an instant, and has already become one of my favorite Kreator albums as well. Like I said before, this album shows that these German thrash legends are showing no signs of slowing down whatsoever, and it also proves that they still indeed got what it takes to make great thrash metal music. If you're a fan of Kreator and thrash metal, then by all means, Hordes of Chaos is yours to have and keep. Buy it now, and prepare to scream "HORDES OF CHAOS, HORDES OF CHAOS, EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE, CHAOS"!!
