Free Music Review: Kristine W -The Big Time Beckons

After 4 years of waiting the diva in waiting has really delivered. This album feels more coherent than the previous "Land of the Living" release. The album like the lady herself incorporates a wide range of influences into a satisfying listening experience. Not since Janet Jacksons "Janet" album have art, pop and soul come together with accessibility. From the storming diva vocals on "Stronger" to the Diana Krall-ish ballad "All That Glitters" Kristine demonstrates not just her considerable vocal prowess but also her ability to (co)write amazing pop songs."Stand in Love" is an honest apprasial of the difficulties in maintaining a sense of self in relationships."Let Love Reign" is a gospel tinged social conscience song that really does make you believe that there is a Paradise over the next hill. The single "Lovin' You" is a disco inspired floorfiller that might just cross over-throwaway pop that you wouldn't want to throwaway. This is Madonna without the cod Brit pretension, Anastactia without the nasal intonation and is a wonderful antidote to the ever more turgid "Money" message of most current chart aimed R'n'B. So she may have changed her hair colour. So what? The important thing is that the amazing vocal range is intact. As is the intellect. This may be Kristines last chance for the big time and under such pressure she has managed to produce an album with at least 6 of the best pop songs of the year.It is a testament to her determination and personal vision.I can hardly wait for the double cd containing remixes from this album and the previous one called "Alive and Stronger". But back to the current release, "Pieces of Me and You " is one track that doesn't really appeal her voice seems strangely at odds with the backing. No matter that still leaves 12 other goodies to enjoy.Great singing and great songs. Let us hope US radio gives them the airplay they richly deserve!
