Kylie's revival since 2000 should now be called a rejuvenation, for as time goes on Kylie's producivity and creativity have combined themselves to become an impressive disaply of a singer-songwriter whose only compare could be Madonna in terms of gauging moving trends and embracing them. Body Language is a natural progression from the 7 million selling techno fest that was Fever and indulges in what I can only describe as a more organically-groove orientated sound which is not short of a catchy chorus. The first few listens may seem a bit bland but believe me, each track begins to stand out to become perhaps my favourite album of 2003 (along with Appleton's album). First single (and another UK No1) Slow is a deliciously sensual invitation to love - a hypnotic beat and breathy vocal combine to make this one of Kylie's most ambitious and avant-garde trax to date, but without sacrificing the pop sensibility which she has crafted and mastered over the years. Still Standing launches into a whirly and experimental pop rollercoaster ride, followed by the joyous Secret (with a very impressive and not-embarassing-at-all rap) and slows down the pace slightly for the sexy and alluring Promises. The key driver throughout all these songs is their accessibility while maintaining simplicity in their electronic orientation - perfekt for adapting to club mixes. Sweet Music is anothoer joyous club-pop song while Red Blooded Woman is another future No 1 - hypnotically infectious. I have found that with many Kylie cds, track 7 is normally the best and here is no exception. Chocolate is a flowing and smooth seductive song with enticing lyrics which drown you....Kylie has certainly mastered the art of vocal seduction as she practically wraps herself around each word. I ADORE this song. There are a couple of more 'album' type trax...listenable but not singles. Then we move to the album's closers. 2nd best trak is Loving Days...a Bond-type ballad which is pure class with lush strings, enticing lyrics, the whole works. Closing track After Dark again another mellow toon which lets the album simmer down, but with a cracker chorus. If this album does not testify Kylie's originality and brilliance, nothing will. Geared towards the pop and club market, La Minogue demonstrates her versatility and confidence in experimenting musically. Lending a pen to many of these songs also she maintains her credibility as an artist who is in control of her musical persona since 1994. Forever a deity in our popular culture, Body Language is Kylie's chef d'oeuvre and a worthy addition to any pop or dance music fan's cd collection. I'm in awe with this Siren.

EMI. 2003.After 16 years in the pop diva business, Kylie Minogue doesn't bother reinventing herself. Maybe that's why Body Language sounds so effortlessly appealing. Confidence permeates the record's savvy mix of modern and retro, implanting slinky tunes like "Slow" into your brain's guilty pleasure section. Aided greatly by producer Kurtis Mantronik's resourceful touch, sparse electroclash rhythms blend easily with Minogue's shrewd pop sense, milking it for maximum catchiness. True, Kylie's barely-there voice remains a weak spot, and her attempt at rap on "Secret (Take You Home)" doesn't quite work (though it's better than you might think). More often, those helium tones are put to effective use; her sighing vocal on "Chocolate" is pure, sweet decadence. Prince himself might be a little envious of how well Mantronik lays down the 1999-style electro-funk, as tracks like "Still Standing" glide along on computer soul and the singer's practiced tease. And therein lies Body Language's most impressive feat: It makes Minogue's plastic sex appeal sound not just like the most natural thing in the world, but like an honest-to-God artistic statement. --Matthew Cooke
