Free Music Notes for Body LanguageFree Music Review: Pop :: Stop :: Drop :: HOT Hit: 5 Stars
Well, Body Language is another step forward for Kylie Minogue. . . (Congratulations on her Grammy for Fever's Come Into My World, by the way.) It's not Light Years, and it's not Fever. It's different, but not that much more so. It's 80s influenced, and mature, daring, and classy . Some tracks are more R'n'B, some are a bit hip hop, but some are definitely dance. They're all pop. There are the uptempo tracks, there are the midtempo tracks... You can dance, you can relax, or, you can take a drive, as some other people have recommended. This album has got to have something that you want. Slow is her debut single from the album, which divided her fans upon release -- you either loved it, or hated it upon first listen. But after more listens, some eventually grew to like this sexy, down-tempo, stripped-down electro song that was dubbed a "bold move" on Kylie's part. Still Standing, which she used as the opening to her Money Can't Buy show in the UK November 2003. "I'm still standing / Keeping you dancing..." Hey, who do you think the lyrics in this dance track are talking about? Secret (Take You Home) is very catchy in each and every part, and very fun. She raps in this song, but it's all for fun, and not meant to be serious. Not a bad attempt either. Promises has a cool beat and a catchy chorus. My favorite part: "And the rest is silent..." ...silence... and then it jumps back to the chorus. Sweet Music is the song about...writing a song. But this is indeed so nicely written and nicely done, that you've got to get up! and start dancing! Even if you didn't like Still Standing, this one has to get you. Red Blooded Woman is the second single, and it's r'n'b (but that doesn't mean Kylie is ditching her pop). This single is currently having better reception than Slow. It has a faster tempo, and more things going on. The lyrics are about the devil and the angel on your shoulder type deal -- you've been hurt in love before...but I don't care! It also references two of her past singles (Spinning Around, Can't Get You Out Of My Head) and Dead Or Alive's You Spin Me Right Round. Chocolate features slower, breathy vocals and well-written, more thoughtful lyrics that make it very sexy. Also a favorite with many fans. "...melt me slowly down..." And it feels just exactly like that. Obsession is my favorite track. It's sung in a lower range, with lyrics about a self-centered ex. The end fades out with the repetitive line, "obsession is a dangerous state of mind..." I Feel For You was produced by Kurtis Mantronik. It's...unusual, both musically and lyrically. Colorful words, though, and the thunder and the rain in the beginning and end of this song are a nice touch. Another song that I guess can grow on you. Someday is a slower song; I like the lyrics but could do without some of the weird synthesizer sounds. It features some nice vocals by Green Gartside... Loving Days is a slowly, ballad-y track that conjures up some nice imagery. If you know the story behind it, you'll understand -- she wrote it after taking a vacation with her boyfriend, Olivier, where they went sailing. Good lyrics, good vocals. After Dark is a sexy midtempo track... Hmm, I don't know what to say for it, except that I like it. The US version also features two bonus tracks, Cruise Control and You Make Me Feel (both co-written by Kylie), but I haven't listened to them enough to write them into the review. But, upon the first few listens, I can say this: not bad, not bad... There are also the two videos on the enhanced CD. There's the music video for Slow, and the Money Can't Buy performance for Can't Get You Out Of My Head. Body Language -- it's catchy, it's different, it's...wonderfully Kylie. Go buy it, now! :p
Free Music Review: Not As Bad As People Make It Out To Be.. Hit: 5 Stars
When I ask everyone what their favorite Kylie CD is, the common response is Fever. Being that they probably haven't heard Body Language nor Light Years (which in my opinion is her 2nd best), I can forgive them. ;-) The production and the feel to this album is OUTSTANDING. It is stylish, catchy, sexy, fun, light-hearted, dancey, happy, creative, and colorful. Every song is like a different multi-colored scoop of ice cream with all types of colorful & strange candies placed throughout. Strange euphonism, but that is the only way I can describe how yummy each track is.
The production is so crisp & clean. There are sounds scattered throughout each song that I've never heard before. Neon-lighted mushroom bubbles popping in a Candyland. An alienated metallic gymnasium that comes to life with past lovers & "Promises". There is an early-90s-Nickelodeon-Television influenced song that brings me back to 1992 with Double Dare with the neon-animal print clothing and side-ponytails! A psychedelic 1960s trip down a magical rainforest with funk-disco & atmospheric thunderstorms.
Slow - 9/10 || Kylie releases her most experimental song as the first single, which tops the charts at #1.
Still Standing - 10/10 || This is where the fun begins. Very early 90s song that reminds me of Nickelodeon and the 90s bad fashion (in a fun way!)
Secret (Take You Home) - 9.5/10 || Kylie loses herself in a sex-kitten alter-personality. Very fun song that includes some rapping from Miss M as well!
Promises - 10/10 || One of my top favorites on the album. The production and sounds are amazing. That perfect song to drive to on a lost coastal highway after splitting with a partner, and knowing it was for the best, while the sunshine glowing on your face affirms it.
Sweet Music - 9.5/10 || Not much to say, except a very fun song!
Red Blooded Woman - 7/10 || My least favorite song on BL. Too generic and typical. Reminds me of her latest album X, which I'm not a huge fan of.
Chocolate - 9/10 || You have to be in the right mood to feel this one, but I was today, and I love the extreme sensuality of it.
Obsession - 9/10 || Good song about a bad boyfriend/girlfriend.
I Feel For You - 10/10 || One of the fans' least favorite songs, but one of my favorites. Just so you know, none of these songs should be judged with a big mindset. Calm down, and enjoy the funk.
Someday - 8.5/10 || I like the atmosphere of it. Sounds like a song you would get high to and lay back and soak up the atmosphere of it all. (and I like getting high) Ha.
Loving Days - 10/10 || WHAT A BEAUTIFUL TRACK! It kinda doesn't fit in with the album, but man oh man, I have made love to this song and it intensifies the passion ten-fold.
After Dark - 9.5/10 || A good, fun closer. I picture friends dancing around a beachfire laughing their behinds off, knowing how good their lives are at that moment.
Cruise Control (bonus) - 10/10 || Single-worthy. Why it wasn't even included on the original album is beyond me. This would have been huge. I love the cartoon sound effects SO MUCH. Kylie at her best.
You Make Me Feel (bonus) - 10/10 || This song is really cool. It is tied with Promises as the crispest & best produced song on the album. I love the way they incorporate the cricket-chirping to make a beat. Sounds like a penthouse party.
This is one of my favorite albums ever, as you can probably tell from my review. It is everything I've ever wanted in an album. It is 100% good fun, and I think Kylie reached her creative peak right here. Hopefully her new stuff will be just as good after the very disappointing X! Go Team K!
Free Music Review: Kylie-a true superstar! Hit: 5 Stars
i've read the reviews on the site and would like to suggest people to write reviews only on stuff they have expertise on..come on..people liking crazy hard rock should write reviews about their stuff and not mingle their nosy beaks in others business.. for me this cd is one of the best collection ive heard in a real long time. i became a real huge fan of kylie after listening to "in your eyes". then i bought fever and i was hooked to it. then i realised how big kylie is!! body language by far leaves all the contemporary pop artistes behind. the minute expertise is seen in each of the tracks. she is so diverse in the album itself. she goes from ballads to dance floor tracks to bedroom songs..songs that you relate ..songs that you cherish..this is an album to stay i'd say. slow is such an exciting song with its really slow and sparse beats with the sexy vocals of kylie.it really grows on you as you listen. still standing an electro-DJ type track sure to strike on you. you really feel like groving your feet.secret(take you home) has got some bad reviews(i read) but i straightaway resent those. this track is so cool. the rapping is supercool. i love it. lyrics are ..just the ones that make you give a naughty smile as you listen to it.nasty id say!! oh how i love it!!my favourite actually. promises is a one of the strong tracks seen on the album.tune is great, vocals gr8,lyrics different, thunbs up to you kylie!! what an i say about sweet music..thats one of the rare tracks that you see. lyrics whose meaning known to countable few, but great. i like it. Red Blooded Woman is a SMASH HIT I BET!! IT is sure to make waves all over. with lyrics tune vocals everythig so perfect this has to be a show-stealer everywhere. the video looks great.ALL IN ALL-A POLISHED PRODUCT!!WAY TO GO KYLIE WE LOVE IT!! chocolate is one another sure hit! it has that slow cool sweet vibe on it that hooks you.obsession is also a good song. it grows on you slowly after a few listenings. it is also one of the strong woman songs in the album. i feel for you is so dramatic and digitally mastered all at a time with a mysterious sample vocal[dunno what it says]. a cool track! someday is my one dark spot on the album though i know many wouldnt agree but i feel that one song is a weak link amongst a great tracks with huge potentials. the track is not bad but somewhere in between feels a bit lame. but i loved that line-"i want my records back to get my heart on track" feels so real life! not so bad actually. loving days-oh what a track one of my favourites!! the feel of the song is so great..you really feel you are on a boat with the love of your life floating on deep blue sea with all the worldly worries left behind. great love song i'd say. after dark is a dance track with a tinge. i really like it. on a whole if you see this is a musically lyrically vocally a very mature album. it has a distint slow vibe along the whole album. the dance tracks too are slow but cant stop you froom grooving. lyrically so different. you dont find such lyrics in songs i think.they are really different. no teeny pop stuff.oh how im relieved!! the songs are from a strong woman who knows what she wants how to get it and distinct leadership quality is seen in most of the songs. the music, tunes, beats, rythm, backing vocals, different sounds, samples, strings in all the songs are perfect and they dont feel lame or make you dull throughout the listening time. makes you smile with each track.i recommend this to everybody. All the best to you KYLIE!! YOUVE DONE A GREAT JOB! I LOVE IT.WE ALL LOVE YOU. KEEP UP!! ALL IN ALL A GREAT ALBUM!! CHEERS!! LOVE YOU KYLIE!
Free Music Review: A Taste of Foreign Glamour Hit: 5 Stars
I accidentally met Kylie in Paris about ten years ago and she told me: "You're from Canada? I didn't even know I had fans left in North America! Thanks for recognizing me." Fast-forward to 2001, with "Can't get you out of my head", Kylie Minogue had a second chance at fame in North America. The single sold over four million units worldwide and made its way in the top 10 in both Canada and the United States. The single was lifted from "Fever", Kylie's most successful album ever.In my opinion, "Body Language" is to Kylie what "Around The World In A Day" (ATWIAD) was to Prince: the hugely anticipated follow-up album. After Purple Rain, it seemed Prince could do everything right but the cryptic religious imagery of ATWIAD proved to be too much for even his fans. The album was a hard one to love. In 2001, it seemed Kylie could do anything at all. To North Americans, she was exotic, a taste of foreign glamour and to British and Europeans she was uber-sexy and back on top, where she belongs. Her Fever tour was a sell-out and her lingerie line was selling like hot cakes. Enters Body Language! The first alarm went off when "Slow" was released in the UK in November. It made it to number one but it was the slowest selling number one of all time! Minimalist Minogue was not as popular as projected. Much like post-Purple Rain Prince, Kylie is trying to move away from Fever. She might eventually release her "Graffiti Bridge", but for now, fans around the world should regale themselves with Body Language, a jewel of an album. It's official Kylie's gone French-o-lic! You won't mind, it's all very refreshing. Most of her fans won't even notice how she looks just like Brigitte Bardot on both the covers of the first single `Slow' and the album. But you will! Most people will notice that Kylie jumped on the electro-pop van, how very French of her (Air anybody). If there's something the French (me!!) can't be accused of it is of a lack of sophistication. Body Language is sophisticated, it's elegant, it's produced with quality in mind. Dare I say it's a bit blend...Sure, it will surprise you, it's not as pop as you'd like, it doesn't have a standout single and the songs can seem similar at times. At first, it'll take you aback. Then, you'll put "Fever" on and reminisce about Pop-Kylie. A couple of days will go by and you'll pop Body Language in again. Chocolate will stick with you for hours: "If love were liquid it would drown you, if love were human it would know me". Slow will hypnotise you and Red Blooded Woman will teach you new expressions, namely Freaking Around! Body Language is Kylie's ninth studio album and arguably her best. The Canadian and American version is even better as it is full of extras. Two excellent bonus tracks, the R&B infused Cruise Control and the mellow You make me feel; The Slow video in all its glory. Odds are you won't see the video on Much Music or MTV so here's your chance; The making-of for the Slow video (very interesting to see how nice and genuine Kylie is in almost real life) Live performance of Can't Get You Out Of My Head from Kylie's exclusive Money Can't Buy show in London. It seems that with Body Language, Kylie is trying to push the envelop and mess with the formula that put her back on top of the Charts. Pop-Kylie has evolved. Did anybody want Pop-Kylie to evolve? After hearing Body Language, you'll be saying YES!
Free Music Review: Come On And Dance With Me! Yeah! Slow! Hit: 5 Stars
When I first played Body Language I listened to Slow which I was already familiar with from buying the single.... And then, suddenly, Still Standing started playing and I thought to myself, "She's done it again.... Woohoo!" I absolutely loved it. Still Standing had a bit of an eighties synth sound mixed with a modern dance beat and they went together beautifully. I thought to myself, "This is not a single, but I love it!" Track three is called Secret and it fits right in with all the Kylie hits we all love. I hope it becomes a single because I want remixes! Secret also has Kylie rapping in parts, and what can I say, she sounds great! It can't get any better than that! Another favorite for DanceKylie lovers will be Sweet Music. This is a song you'll want to play loud.... You'll play it at parties.... You'll take it to the club and make the DJ play it.... I did, and so can you! Sweet Music rocks! Okay, now the big surprise here for this album is that Kylie has accommodated our tastes by giving us our dance music, but she is also leaning toward r&b here a little. Leave it to Kylie to make such a change so wonderfully... she does not just change here, she has blended her old style with a new favorite and although the new sound isn't all r&b, and it's not the dance pop music we're used to, she has created an all new Kylie hybrid. The second single in most countries is Red Blooded Woman. After listening to the track a few times, it is quickly becoming a favorite and I can see why Kylie would choose this for a single. I think it will do very well and perhaps add to her audience. I recently saw Kylie say in an interview that she admires Missy Elliot's work and maybe this new direction will give Kylie an opportunity to work with Missy on some remixes, which all us, especially the dance fans, will love. On the same interview, Kylie did mention that although there are not as many dance tracks on this album, it will be made up for by all of the remixes. Last but not least, there are three more tracks that I must mention that I feel stand out! The first is Chocolate. Yes, it's as good as it sounds! I could listen to the chorus over and over again. "If love were liquid it would drown me. In a placeless place would find me. In a heart shape come around me and then, Melt me slowly down, If love were human it would know me, In a lost space come and show me. Hold me and control me and then melt me slowly down" The last two songs I MUST mention are the two bonus tracks that are only on the North American version of the album. Cruise Control and You Make Me Feel are fabulous. I listened to these and I was shocked at how good they were for bonus tracks. I feel like Cruise Control is as good as a single. It's got a great beat, great lyrics, and it sounds as though it were made for Kylie. I feel for the people in the UK and Australia who did not get these tracks on their copies. All of Body Language has Kylie's wonderful "style" embedded in it. I do not think anyone else could have done this better than Kylie. So if you love Kylie, you have to get this, you will love it! If you just like Kylie and only know Can't Get You Out Of My Head, I think you will love this CD once you give it a spin, and it will surely become one of your favorites.
