WOW! This is a great CD! Even though I fell for the single "Slow", I really wasn't expecting the rest of the CD to have anything more than trite "boom-diddy boom-diddy" y'know, like a lot of Minogue's other CDs. Well, I'm sure surprised! It's really a nice collection of funky, sensual electronic grooves that owes as much to classic electro records as it does to modern teeny-pop or club music. Now - I've never been a big fan of Minogue's cheesy early efforts, and I still not sold on her breathy sex-kitteny vocals. However, unlike a lot of dance-pop divas, she's canny enough to realize her appeal on record has limits; presumably she realized she doesn't have a great voice, and lets the music itself take up a lot of slack. The music here is very sensual and sublte, with lots of great electronic textures that work to enhance the songs, instead of just *being* the songs. In fact, it's only when "Body Language" resorts to doing some obligitory "slow jam" or hip-hop styled tracks that it gets pedestrian. Otherwise the music bubbles along and builds, and works to its own internal logic. Credit must be given to Minogue for the insight to hire people like the long MIA Kurtis Mantronik, and for letting them do their "thing". I suppose she could easily have kept the focus on herself, and the album strictly *about* herself (...) - so I'm glad she gave the music some room to stretch out. In short, this is a fine album with its own internal musical logic. I'm sure it's not quite what long-time Kylie Minogue fans were expecting, but she really deserves credit for making an album that works on its own terms apart from the "Kylie" phenomenon. I love it! Too bad she didn't cover Queen's electro single "Body Language", though! Now THAT would have been cool!
Free Music Review: Great cd! Hit: 5 Stars
I have this cd and the Austrailian release and I love this follow up to "Fever". Although this cd is nothing like "Fever", so if you are looking for up tempo dance music you won't find it here.
1.Slow- a lot of people don't like this song and feel it shouldn't have been the first single. But I personally love it, it sounds sexy to me.
2.Still Standing- not one of my ultimate faves but I love it anyway, it's more up tempo than "Slow
3.Secret(take you home)-This was the song that on my first listen I thought "I think this will be one of my favorites." I love the "Buckle up baby.." rap in it.Up-tempo
4.Promises- one that has grown on me. Up-tempo
5.Sweet music- I like this one. Up-tempo
6.Red blooded woman- one of two that I listen to most on this cd. Great song! Mid tempo
7.Chocolate- the second song that I listen to most. It has a very sexy feel to it and I love the video.Mid to lower tempo
8.Obession-I like it but I don't listen to it very much. Up tempo
9.I feel for you- I love this song! the sample on it is great. mid to upper tempo
10.Someday- Propably the song I listen to the least. mid temp
11. Loving Days- I love this song. Propably the slowest song on the cd
12.After Dark- one that is growing on me. up tempo
13. Cruise Control- I love this song! Great driving song. up tempo
14.You make me feel- I like this song. A lot of fans complain about this cricket noises but they don't bother me. mid tempo.
The video parts are great, although they will be on the "Body Language Live" DVD that comes out early September. Overall a great cd and a must for any Kylie fan.
Free Music Review: RELAX, Y'ALL! KYLIE IS ... Hit: 5 Stars
I'm shocked by the evil & viperish criticism that some have posted here about Kylie in response to her fabulous new album. It's pretty clear that Kylie (or any Euro-pop for that matter) is too sophisticated for America. So Kylie doesn't have the octave range that Xteena has. Big Deal. Where does having a glass-shattering screech take you? Xteena has been dressing as trashy as a broke ghetto streetwalker & still can't get people's attention when she does a publicity stunt. Kylie is naughty but classy. Britney is trashy & a bubblehead & has elevated lip-synching into an art form. Kylie sings LIVE. Just watch any of her concerts. So Kylie can be as elastic as a Barbie Doll. What about Jessica Simpson & Stacie Orrico? They both are SO plastic fantastic, selling themselves as cotton-brained, safe for the times entertainment & then go on the media with their hypocritical stance about how christian & proper they are. Uggh! Kylie doesn't resort to this. Instead she is pro-equality, pro-humanity, pro-gay & just pro-to wonderful! It's not her fault that american radio has become as insulated as the country itself, refusing to play anything else but r&b & hip hop (genres that I like) & excluding mainstream play for euro-dance, electroclash, rock, heavy metal artists, etc. If this new album fails, it will be because radio refuses to diversify. This album is sexy, atmospheric & creative. She has even included some hip-hoppy sounds on it to appeal to the US market, which doesn't deserve it after shutting her out for more than a decade while the rest of the world has been groovin' to her as back as 15 years ago. Kylie is brilliant. Kylie is sizzling. Kylie is Divine... Amen.
Free Music Review: Kylie is Driving me Wild Hit: 5 Stars
The first Kylie Minogue album I got was Fever. Wow, what a revelation that was! I would listen to that record over and over and over walking around New York City, on buses, in the subway, on the computer. Now I just got this Kylie CD Body Language. It is excellent, with some really driving beats and beautiful sexy songs. The first nice tune here is "Promises". Then comes "Sweet Music", a pretty good beat song with a catchy vocal. "Red Blooded Woman" is the first oustanding tune on the CD. It has a spinning tune and twisting turning vocals that eat you up like quicksand and you're loving it. It also has a great motto which I won't give away here. After that, "Chocolate" is a slower song about how love leaves us exhausted wondering whether we'll be able to experience it again. This is very lovely music. To be honest, every song on this album is at least good. The hit "Slow" is pretty good, but as usual it's the unexpected songs that turn out to be the best. "Obsession", "I Feel For You", "Someday", "Loving Days" are four more songs that are just quality music. It's amazing how this whole album is great. And the other thing is it comes with an extensive libretto with pictures, so you can read along with the fabulously-written lyrics. The last song "After Dark" is truly phenomenal, a grinding pulsing ode to love-lust, with a sweet chorus that just sends you up sky-high. Plus, there's two bonus tracks on this Enhanced CD plus more. I suggest you get this CD along with Fever if you don't have that. And I'm going to get "Light Years" too which I hear is one of Kylie's best recordings. I'm listening to "After Dark" right now as I finish writing this and it is truly phenomenal. I'm in the zone---you can be, too, with Kylie.
