Free Music Review: Kylie: Reissued and Remixed

Kylie Minogue.....it is strange to think that she started out as the "I Should Be So Lucky" teen queen that grew into the "Feel The Fever" pop icon she is today. This collection was released over 10 years ago, but since Kylie's worldwide popularity as grown since the release of 2000's LIGHT YEARS and 2001's FEVER, PWL wanted to cash in again I guess. This collection represents the best of late 1980's and early 1990's dance music produced by the Stock/Aitken/Waterman production team. As with many a pop artist Kylie eventually grew out of touch with the S/A/W team and left for the trendy DeConstruction dance label in 1993. The stand-out tracks from the 1980's include her first world-wide hit in 1987, the joyous "I Should Be So Lucky", "Locomotion", and "Got To Be Certain" from 1988's KYLIE. The sweet "Hand On Your Heart", "Wouldn't Change A Thing", and "Never Too Late" from 1989's ENJOY YOURSELF album. As the Kylie entered the 1990's she released four singles that have defined her career through it's many up and downs. The first being her undying dance classic "Better The Devil You Know" which marked the first appearence of "Sex Kylie" with the song's stylish video clip. The Second being the funky "Step Back In Time" with its heart stuck in that 1970's groove. The third single from 1990's classic RHYTHM OF LOVE being the epic remix of "What Do I Have To Do?". And the last offical single being the DNA remix of "Shocked" which improves on the original while keeping some of the original elements. By 1991, Kylie was growing out of synch with S/A/W and PWL records and it is reflected in 1991's LET'S GET TO IT. The first single the urban/jazzy "Word Is Out" still holds up really well considering it age. The ballad with Keith Washington "If You Were With Me Now" is in my opinon Kylie's best effort of balladery during the PWL years. "Give Me Just A Little More Time" and "Finer Feelings" with the latter being remixed with future collaborators the Brothers In Rhythm, make the song a memborable fan favorite giving the song a more middle-eastern style flair. All-in-all, this collection is a good reminder of what made Kylie..."Kylie". Each song is remastered and sounds as good or better than it did 10 years ago. I would also recomend the 2000 release HITS +, which highlights Kylie's "indie" period during the DeConstruction years (1994-1998). Also, pick up 2000's LIGHT YEARS and 2001's FEVER in which Kylie returns to the sound that made her famous...Dance Pop. And more thing, Kylie is about to release her ninth studio album BODY LANGUAGE, with the first single being the hypnotic "Slow". The Album will be released in the US in early February 2004.
