Free Music Notes for Light YearsFree Music Review: Addictively Fun Hit: 4 Stars
Kylie's 2000 album LIGHT YEARS is a must have album. Taking notes from 70's disco and adding a twist to it, Kylie has created an album which is "light years" ahead of others in the genre. The album spawned some major hits, such as the #1 smash "Spinning Around", and "On A Night Like This". The album is almost a non stop party, with some great songs. The title track is one of the album's best, where Kylie is a airline stewardess. The album, along with her 1997 album IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS, shows that Kylie is a unique artist with a unique voice of music. She has great songwriting skills and has a good ear for catchy melodies. Not too many artists would do albums like this, which go back for a more retro feel, and try to redefine it without taking away its original intent. Other highlights on here include "Your Disco Needs You", "Under the Influence of Love", "Disco Down", "I'm So High" and "Loveboat". The only mis-step taken on LIGHT YEARS is the inclusion of two tracks, the latin influenced "Please Stay", which was the last single from the album, and by far her weakest track yet. The other mistep is "Bittersweet Goodbye" a sappy ballad which seems to clutter on this otherwise seamless set of songs. Overall if you're in the mood to freak out, this is the perfect cd.
Free Music Review: Kylie's Disco Hit: 4 Stars
Kylie's 2000 album LIGHT YEARS was a departure from her badly received but creatively successful 1997 album IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS. This is a genuine throwback to the 70's and the disco era. It opens with the hits "Spinning Around" and "On A Night Like This". The songs on this album will make you want to move and dance and sing along. "So Now Goodbye" and "Disco Down" are adorable songs that should be considered Kylie classics. "Butterfly" was a promo single in the US. The other singles from the album were "Your Disco Needs You", a campy fun song, and the cash in on the Latin craze at the time titled "Please Stay", which I cannot stand. It's any wonder why it was a single when there were clearly better choices. Another song that doesn't do it for me is the Robbie Williams duet "Kids", and "Bittersweet Goodbye", the albums only ballad, seems out of place. Another great track is the title track. Overall a fun campy album Kylie fans will love, definately a favorite of mine.

Although I do not believe this to be Kylie's best work, it's still fun and really worth a listen. This is her come back album right after Impossible Princess which failed. She changed her sound to this late 70's disco sound and really went with it the whole way. The songs are not the most dance worthy I have ever heard, and the pop goes in to generic territory at times, but some of this stuff is genius. For example, Your Disco Needs You might be one of the most genius songs I have ever heard, not to mention great to dance too. Disco Down is also a great song. On the other hand, Spinning Around, Please Stay, and Kids with Robbie Williams, which were all singles, do not measure up to the rest of this CD. Althought this CD is uneven it is still worth a listen and it has the fun factor.
The Key Tracks Are: Your Disco Needs You, Disco Down, So Now Goodbye, Light Years, and Butterfly.
Free Music Review: Dance Yourself Into Oblivion Hit: 4 Stars
This album was Kylie's comeback overseas *although she never left.* But her last few albums had been not up to her previous late 80's and early 90's pop success."Light Years" is a fun disco album packed with energy. "Spinning Around" was a big hit *and had a hot video!* But there are many other great tracks including "On A Night Like this" and "Disco Down." My favorite track has 2 be "Your Disco Needs You." It's amusingly cheesy and campy, but fun. I can imagine this one blasting in gay bars. "Kids" is a cool duet with Robbie Willams. Him and Kylie sound great 2gether. "Bittersweet Goodbye" is an achingly sweet ballad *and the only one here.* "Butterfly" has a techno vibe and would hint towards things to come on her US comeback "Fever." A highly recommended work-out album.

After flirting with a slightly darker and more mature sound on "Impossible Princess", Kylie Minogue returned to her pop roots with "Light Years". What makes this CD so charming and interesting is that instead of copying current pop music trends, Kylie borrows more from classic disco and showtunes, with a hint of modern techno thrown in. The result is a jubilant, tongue-in-cheek party album. And who can resist that?My favorite tracks are: "Disco Down" (a disco anthem, as if you couldn't tell by the title), "Koocachoo" (pure bubblegum pop), "Love Boat" (sounds like a kitschy showtune) and "Kids" (a duet with the equally sexy and campy Robbie Williams).
