Free Music Notes for XFree Music Review: One of her best Hit: 5 Stars
Fever, this one, and her new one are all very good. Her new one (Aphrodite) probably has the best songs. This album is more dance-oriented though.
Free Music Review: Great CD Hit: 5 Stars
Awesome CD. Probably her best so far. If you are a Kylie Fan this would be a must!
Free Music Review: Kylie at her best!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I love this cd it's awesome I suggest that everyone get a copy of it.
Free Music Review: "X" does what it's supposed to do Hit: 4 Stars
This was labeled as Kylie's comeback album after her diagnosis from breast cancer and that it was her first studio album release in 4 years. A lot of people were expecting an album full of in depth lyrical songs (probably about her ordeal) but suprisingly the album doesn't contain too much of that, instead it provided what Kylie does best: feel good dance-pop. An interesting thing about this album is that it contains a heavy Electro-pop sound to it, which was new for Kylie and if you notice, back in 2007 the Electro sound wasn't explored in mainstream songs. It was shortly after that artists starting incorporating electro-pop into their music and now its everywhere. Although Kylie didn't necessarily start this trend, I choose to believe she was a major contributer (although many don't credit her for it). The songs on this album are very catchy and great to dance and sing to. I'll give you a walk through:
#1 2 HEARTS - this is a pop/rock vamp style track and was released as the first single in 2007. its actually a one off on the album but i believe its one of the best.
#2 LIKE A DRUG - definately a standout track. This song has a very strong Electro sound to it and was quite modern for its time.
#3 IN MY ARMS - This was released as the third single (in the UK & Australia) and was also written by Kylie. This also has a strong Electro and dance feel to it.
#4 SPEAKERPHONE - Undoubtedly the best track on the album. This is pure electro at its best and was so overly modern and fantastic. Its a shame she never released this as the first single because I honestly think it would have been as big as her song Can't Get You Out Of My Head. This song is quite hard to sing along to because you run out of breath singing the words. Fantastic song!
#5 SENSITIZED - this song sounds a little different because it doesn't really utilize the electro sound that much but is nevertheless a great song for the reason that it is unique.
#6 HEART BEAT ROCK - this would have to be my least favourite track, simply because it doesn't grab you. Its nice that Kylie wrote it, but i generally flick past this when i'm listening to the CD. it does contain a strong electro-pop sound however.
#7 THE ONE - this is a good one. strongly incorporating a electro-dance sound and also written by Kylie. Lyrics are definately catchy and you almost go into one of those dance trances with it (or at least i do).
#8 NO MORE RAIN - This is one of the songs on the album that Kylie wrote about her cancer recovery. It shows some depth to it and even though its not a slow ballad, i still kind of flick through it for some reason.
#9 ALL I SEE - this is a R&B/pop song and like "2 Hearts" is also a one off on the album. I think this song is catchy and is a great R&B song but probably out of place here. I think this song should have been on her previous album 'Body Language' if anything. Nevertheless, I don't find myself skipping past it, but listening to it entirely.
#10 STARS - Kylie wrote this song during her cancer recovery and it definately has an electro-dance feel to it.
#11 WOW - this song is very catchy and is pure electro-dance-pop. Kylie wrote it and it was released as the second single where it had success. This is one of the songs that sticks with you after you've listened to the album for the first time but once you listen to it again, you generally start liking other tracks better (or maybe its just me).
#12 NU.DI.TY - this is one of those weird but fun Kylie songs that you generally find one of on her dance-pop albums. Its pure electropop and is quite funny to listen to. I actually find this one of the standout tracks of the album.
#13 COSMIC - a pop-ballad clearly about Kylie's cancer recovery, that she wrote. A nice touch to end the album on.
So in my opinion, X is a very consistent album and definately worthy of a spot in a CD collection.
Free Music Review: The Comeback continues Hit: 4 Stars
It's that time again; a Minogue album is upon us. X is actually the first Kylie album I've been desperate to buy on the day of release, based on the strength of the leaked album tracks and outtakes. Having now got a copy of my very own, the hard part of this review is the final rating. When X is good it's very good, to the point that I can overlook the fillers and the car-crash. However, for the first time Kylie has come out with a few duds. To be brutally honest, "filler" is too good a term to call a couple of the tracks. I've been umming and ahhing, and have decided on a 4, but if you're a casual fan it may be a 3.
I'm going to start this review the diamond in the crown. `Rippin' Up The Disco'. This is a downloadable bonus track that really should have been a regular track. Hell, it should be a single, it's really that good. If you loved Kylie's LIGHT YEARS album you'll love this, it fits in with that era perfectly.
The album highlight for me is 'In My Arms'. Very dance-pop, the lyrics are simple & catchy. The music is very Calvin Harris. This track could be huge. It will be the second European single (excluding the UK).
`Like A Drug', `The One', 'Stars' and `Wow' (UK and Aus single) are pure pop. Forget the credibility chasing please, Kylie is made for pop, she makes these tracks shine.
The Cathy Dennis penned 'Sensitized' - dropped from BODY LANGUAGE - makes it way onto X. Like '2 Hearts' it's new for Kylie, but it works. Simple, yet complex, it sounds like it could have been an IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS track. Very sensual lyrics.
A classic Kylie album (for me) has at least one average single. `2 Hearts' i8s a solid, slickly produced number, with nice breathy vocals, but it just doesn't do anything for me. Maybe I'd like it more if my first thought wasn't "It's Goldfrapp". The song, its video and Kylie's style are blatant copies. Anyone else would have been instantly shot down for this huge rip.
Another, unfortunate classic Kylie album stable is the use of filler tracks. I played the album before sitting down for this review, but I still can't think of anything constructive to say about `No More Rain', `All I See' or `Cosmic', apart from It's something we've come to expect from Kylie, but with the above mentioned treasure trove of potential tracks for team Kylie to pick from this really could have been avoided.
I do have another negative point. For the first time on a Kylie album there are a few songs that aren't even filler tracks, their just horrid. Take a bow `Speakerphone' and `Heart Beat Rock'. `Nu-di-ty' gets a few points for becoming car-crash; it's not good and it's painful, but I can't help listening.
This is Kylie's most solid album since the perfection that was LIGHT YEARS. It's a long way from perfect with only half of the tracks (and the bonus) being truly album worthy material, but we can still sigh with relief that X isn't BODY LANGUAGE: Part II.
