Free Music Review: Back to the eighties
Hit: 4 Stars

After a four year absence, the pop icon from Australia is back with a disco-electronic-pop album that will send you right back to those wild partying days of the eighties. If you're a young `un, ask your parents about it. (They may not remember too much about that decadent decade, but they WILL remember the music)

First single "2 Hearts" is a rework of a song by the British group Kish Mauve, who also produced the single. This track takes you back to your sweater-off-the-shoulder/leg-warmer Flashdance days. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Strictly for dancing:

"Like a Drug" - starts like "You Really Got Me" (originally by The Kinks), which is on the soundtrack for the movie "Doogal", songs from which were performed by Kylie.

"In My Arms" - single-worthy, radio-friendly track sounding like early Madonna. Think "Holiday" and "Borderline"

"Heart Beat Rock" - more early Madonna

"The One" - another remake, another single, and one of the best tracks on the album

"Wow" - name says it all

For tapping your toes and shaking your hair:

"Speakerphone" - electronic pop, sort of like Daft Punk's "One More Time"

"Sensitized" - typical `80s track, nothing special

"No More Rain" - familiar sounding track that I can't place right now (maybe slower Madonna). I really like this one too.

Mellow stuff:

"All I See" - pop/R&B track, sounds like a Janet Jackson song

"Stars" - a little like Simply Red I think

Not so hot:

"Nu-di-ty" - electronic pop filler track

"Cosmic" - sleepy filler track

Recommended for Madonna fans, and anybody old enough to remember and enjoy the music of the eighties.

Free Music Review: How does she DO it?
Hit: 4 Stars

No other pop artist (including her most obvious rival, Madonna, who I'm a fan of) has made as many great albums in a row as Kylie Minogue. She's often referred to as diminutive, as a less-than-perfect vocalist, and more about her looks than the music. While these descriptions aren't totally inaccurate - the visual aspect is intrinsic to her craft, as can be said about the likes of Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson (if you haven't seen any of her live dvds, you've just got to) - there is just no denying how great her albums have been. Ever since the Kylie Minogue album, when she broke from the teeny-bop formula and image and began to create her own voice, she's been absolutely unstoppable. Kylie Minogue, Impossible Princess, Light Years, Fever, Body Language -- even the two songs used to pad the Ultimate Kylie hits collection proved to be two of her best singles.

And now there's X. Following her public break-up and even more public (successful) struggle with cancer, Kylie isn't thrown off for a moment. "2 Hearts" is another in a long run of instant-classic singles and kicks off the album on the right note. And it all flows from there (sequenced well, I'd liken it to Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor in that regard). I particularly like "No More Rain," "All I See," and "Stars," around 3/4 of the way through the cd. I'll be interested to see which songs are chosen to be singles, as there are a few that I think would do well.

The beats are modern throughout, the songs melodic, positively sparkling. Whatever system she's got for collaborating with different producers and songwriters, it's working. This album is a cohesive, grooving group of songs that doesn't let up for the full 45 minutes. Another absolute winner.

Free Music Review: Good, but is it GREAT?
Hit: 4 Stars

I am a Kylie fan. Not a rabid fan, but a fan nonetheless. I am an American. Most Americans know Kylie as the "Locomotion Girl" or if they are slightly more with it, the "Can't Get You Out of My Head" singer.
Most people don't realize the extent of her long career! I have "Light Years" "Fever" "Body Language" and now "X"

I love Kylie's electro pop. Body Language was an AWESOME album in my opinion, as was Fever. I was not into Light Years very much though.

Back to this album. X doesn't jump out at me quite as much as other reviewers here. I have listened to the entire thing, and do like the tracks..do I LOVE the tracks? No. The main standouts for me are "Wow" "Speakerphone" and "Sensitized" I catch myself singing "Speakerphone" alot now. Very catchy!

Maybe after repeated listens this material will catch up to me. I like "2 Hearts" but definitely don't consider it a classic Kylie song (scratches head)

I would still recommend any Kylie cd over Britney, or Madonna for pure pop fun. Kylie does always delivers a cd that you feel good about purchasing!

Free Music Review: Wow!
Hit: 4 Stars

I have to admit I was not impressed with the first single (2 Hearts) off this album. I also never thought that Kylie Minogue could do outdo the quality of music she released with Fever, 8 years ago. But BOY WAS I WRONG. "X" is one of the most solid, consistent and catchy dance albums I have heard in a very long time.

Track 2 - Like a Drug, is pure pop genius, as is Track 3- In my Arms, and Track 11 - Wow. With almost no filler, this record plays like an awesome electro-dance mix, mixing it up with a little Kylie-fied hip hop (Heart Beat Rock) and new age pop (Cosmic, No More Rain).

But it is Track 4 (Speakerphone) that blows this album out of the water. This is one of the cleverest and most unique pop tracks i have heard in a very long time, and only solidifies Kylie's place in pop music history. Album after album, single after single, her music is catchy as hell, musically innovative, and really fun to play on repeat!

Free Music Review: Kylie's best album
Hit: 4 Stars

This for sure is Kylie Minogue best album , she changed the too sexy and usual sound for a good , modern , sparkly and glamurous soundthout losing the sexy ."in my arms" , "like a drug" and "nu-di-ty" are the best songs , but some songs are very strange , like "sensitized" and "speakerphone" when the beautiful voice of Kylie is modified and sound too artificial. Is cool to try to find the bonus tracks too , "rippin' up the disco" and "white diamond" are good tracks and should be on the standart album , replacing the bad songs. This album is a great evolution in comparation to Body Language and Fever. She made this album for a mundial market , but just one song "all i see" for the american market , which remembers of the songs of Mariah Carey or even "one step at a time" of Jordin Sparks.
obs: This album was and still out of stock of the most important retail store of here(Brazil) ,due to the high selling of the album when with was just a pre-order.
